In theory NotABot is setup to be a hierarchical graph/chain where verifications flow unidirectionally from a source like a slime mold sort of. So it should be possible to trace the origin of entry of a bad actor and reduce the confidence score of those in that chain based on their proximity. So if you’re a bad actor or simply someone who decides to prove the system can be gamed, you end up harming the reputations of those that brought you in as well as your own. All of your verifier’s confidence scores get reduced, your verifications get rescinded by those who want to disassociate, and the heart keeps beating. Getting stronger every time. Strengthening the bonds. Ousting the bad actors.
That’s the theory. Things could be very different in practice. This app is an act of creativity and curiosity asking a simple question… Can a community of mostly nyms create tight enough bonds to create a virtual territory and defend it? We will see, and at the very least, we’ll have fun trying. 😁 It’s amazing in life what can be created by a little bit of curiosity and fun having. Which is why I’m always saying…

There are a number of reasons this could happen. In this case it is because you haven’t received any verifications yet. To give a verification, you have to receive one first.
The curious thing is how you got to the verification screen in the first place. I think I need to look at the code for the verify button on the profile screen. It should be hidden by default.

Hey Keith… That would be me. We took the shuttle to Uvita together. It was great meeting you and hanging a bit at Nostrica.
I updated the copy on the site last night, so hopefully it does a better job of explaining the concept. But yeah, the idea is to launch a relay that uses NotABot to filter out spam. It could really work in a variety of situations where a service wants to avoid the overhead of filtering bots.
Building the app was step one. Step two is POC relay. Step three is mechanisms to defend our network from any bad actors.
This was really just me wanting to learn to build on Nostr (and I’m still learning). I wanted to try to make something somewhat novel that could only be done here. I figured there were enough clients and they were already really good. So far it seems to be working, which is pretty incredible to see. 😊

The Purpose: Join a relay of fully verified NotABots. All humans. No spam bots. 🫂 *Setting this relay up is next on the list. I’m just one dude. 😅
The Objective: To become a Fully Verified NotABot.
The Way: Receive 5 verifications. Give 5 verifications. Make sure they’re all reciprocal.
The Strategy: GLHF
The Cost: Mine verifications with social proof of work. If zaps emerge, keep it fair and reasonable. Let’s not let our beloved zaps detract from the social signal. 🫂 will keep the signal stronger than ⚡️ IMO, but it’s all human coordination and cooperation. It’s all valid.
Reputation matters. Confidence scores will be a thing. Don’t be the one to invite the bots. Your verifications can always be rescinded. 🫥 (Yes! I finally found a use for that emoji!)
The Challenge: We are used to apps bending over backwards to make it easy for us to join using high time preference tactics and instant gratification. Not here. 😂 We all want you to make it in. But like all good things, it’s gonna take some effort. Be patient. Never feel rejected. If are not a bot, we will make sure you have a path in. Reach out if you’re having a tough time in this regard. I never want anybody to feel less than because of something I’ve built.
