That's assuming your contacts check their email when they aren't expecting something. I do (and I also have delta chat!), but my parents, most older people who only use SMS or WhatsApp or whatever, and most younger people who get so much spam they just ignore email and only check it when they're expecting a verification code, all probably don't (the gmail audience, really).

Plus, it's painfully slow as a result of being email.

I've updated the Titan-powered capsule management script I'm using at gemini://blakes.dev. Now it actually creates directories when they're missing.

Something like (an actually simple) SimpleX paired with IRCv3 would be an ideal solution, I think.

New page with a bajillion thoughts about a particular #solar device: gemini://blakes.dev/solar/

A million things unconsidered, and I'd love to have a basic 3D model to show for the shell but not yet.

It's essentially a souped-up, wirelessly solar-powered version of the Raspberry Pi server that's been collecting dust in my room for a year or so, mixed with Internet-in-a-Box.

The Android recoveries scene is *wild*, man. It's a full blown operating system complete with a file manager that boots up before your full phone does. All it's missing is a web browser (and I guess texting/calling support).

It would be cool to have a similar EFI recovery system; keyboard, mouse, boot management, Grub fixing, and yes a graphical file manager. All you get instead are lousy OEM recoveries, although they're a good start.

Did Google recently remove support for timers from (watch) Assistant? Last time it told me I needed to "set it in the timer app" and this time it acted like it started the timer but it didn't. That's the one thing I've been using it for and I swear I'll use Bixby instead if that's what it takes.

I've also been using it for reminders but now they're handled by Google Tasks so now I have to have that to remind myself to wash my clothes when I get home. It's stupid. It worked before. Why?!

I don't have any games on my computer anymore; those are all on the Deck. Furthermore, I try to avoid any programming or design tasks on the Deck (other than i.e. rendering or compiling), preferring to use my laptop for those.

nostr:npub1wx0tnmv8stshjztht58wapgpsha9smtuqcsrkq3up4t0a9e7dazqljce0l When I went on vacation, I just took my Steam Deck and played games on it. I did end up temporarily installing Blender to export something for my brother to use, though, and I did some OpenStreetMap mapping via Firefox. So not *completely* absolved of this.

I'm gonna have to update my Titan upload/file management script. It doesn't make directories when they're missing. Last time I had to SSH in and make it myself.

I've started thinking about a too-elaborate design for a server: solar powered, Clusterboard based, maybe running OpenBSD, maybe with multiple WiFi radios, SDR, running an Internet-in-a-Box type solution, the "q" TLD for internal stuff...

nostr:npub12tyk735v52ju032qahe3k2r520jlsujaem6xr8n0ex6u7eqj0anq59vnqc I imagine this will be a customized Signal server backend with authentication using a fediverse account instead of a phone number. How will it federate?

nostr:npub1ykvylvnd2v7lk0eknvf3cypdkcy9j5u5x6avcpuklvgducqcmsqqfmey6z I'm a real stickler for the GUI and my favorite is Lagrange. Works on desktop and mobile, and I think there's even a terminal version too but it always defaults to the GUI version so I haven't tried it.

nostr:npub1ykvylvnd2v7lk0eknvf3cypdkcy9j5u5x6avcpuklvgducqcmsqqfmey6z They updated the Code of Conduct to cover non Fosstodon accounts of Fosstodon users.

nostr:npub1ykvylvnd2v7lk0eknvf3cypdkcy9j5u5x6avcpuklvgducqcmsqqfmey6z My alt account does potentially-argumentative opinionated stuff, which:

> Fosstodon is not: ... An advocacy space. There are many important, controversial and political issues; and advocating for what you believe is important. However, Fosstodon is not the place for that advocacy. Even correct views can violate our CoC.

The bottom sheet does not go away. Also I probably have to make my own MarkerLayer so that the markers get spaced out a little more, and I also have to set the different zoom levels up too.

Those of us who still think of the #Web as a document/site/blogging/whatever platform have fallen behind. It's a "minimal" app platform now. The Website is vestigial of a bygone era, like an appendix waiting to burst.

If your content fits in the oppressively minimal style (or you can force it to fit, like Wikipedia), give #Gemini a shot, and maybe set up a proxy/gateway so your capsule is still available on the biggest app platform known to mankind: Chrome.

For the first time ever, I'm writing tests before fully implementing a feature and I'm uncovering bugs in its output. This feels very weird for me, but it's definitely the way to go.
