The Twitter algorithm also assesses certain accounts. In its weighting, it distinguishes the ratio between the number of followers and the number of accounts a Twitter account follows. Let's say there are the following two accounts:

Account A: 2000 followers and follows 2000 accounts

Account B: 2000 followers and follows 300 accounts

In this case, Account B is ranked higher, and consequently, its interactions and reach receive a better value.

Not so on Nostr. Here, it doesn't matter how many people you follow or how many follow you. No algorithm gives you priority for that reason. However, this is somewhat mitigated by two aspects: reality and clients that have started to create top lists.

In reality, if you have many followers and you post a trivial note like "Bitcoin fixes this," more people will notice and interact with it compared to when a nobody with 20 followers does it. And some Nostr clients and services that create top lists further amplify this effect by pushing up visibilities that are already boosted by trivialities and follower counts, giving them even more reach.

Twitter for negativity

Nostr for constructivity

I think I've now assigned an appropriate platform for every mood. 🤓

Saw another well-known Bitcoiner account being suspended just today with the same notice.

Can y’all stop shitting on nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg for like one day and just realize that if you already have a way to stack sats and send #zaps, that the in-app purchasing, built-in wallet, and automatic #Lightning address are not for you, but rather to help onboard your friends and other newbies who have never sent or received a single satoshi in their lives, and that instant monetization for content creators is actually really awesome?

Do we want more adoption, or don’t we?

Interesting, I didn't know this debate even existed. Both sides somehow have a point.

But since this feature is a game changer, it could well have an impact on the expectations of future users. Especially if the Android world follows suit.

But we also have to be aware that some people don't see the entire philosophy of Bitcoin in Nostr, but rather just a free social media network. Free of owners and algorithms. This characteristic is enough for most people to be interested in it.

The future will be interesting with regard to these topics. Old hands must also be prepared to eventually give up the interpretive authority. The development and interpretation of Nostr will gain a momentum of its own as more people use it, and this may not always align with the intentions of the inventor or the pioneers.

We have experienced this before. The World Wide Web is no longer what its inventor, Sir Berners-Lee, had hoped to become. Especially since the HTML5 versus XHTML2 debate, everything has been heading in a completely different direction.

Might happen again.

UI designers, when designing Dark and Light mode don't just choose black and white background colors. We need dark, but not that pitch dark. White text on black is not always the best color combination for users with mild visual impairments.

Some people have problems understanding Nostr, so I have written a small, beginner-friendly guide.

https://mslmdvlpmnt.com/a-beginners-guide-to-nostr/

Of course it's not for you all here. You're already here, so you won't find anything new in this how-to. But pass it on to absolute beginners.

Nostr ecosystem development so fast, I had to add 2 updates since it was published 3 days ago.

Linus Torvalds has no beard afaik

Exactly. And that would be a a tedious task. There are big and known relays and smaller ones. But everybody can add a relay to the network. You could rent your own relay for a few Dollars a month, even if you don't know how it works.

And depending on the the client, people can mute you, which then is only a personal decision, that has no effect on the overall reach of the muted person.

Because on Twitter it's different. If a lot of people block you, the algorithm automatically decreases your reach.

The internet doing its job

All these new billionaire guys who dress extra casually (in leather jackets and baggy wide-collar T-shirts and cowboy boots) who are desperate to slap you in the face: "Look. I'm so rich, I can even rise above the dress code of my social group." Like some wannabe rebellious teenager. Like that broker guy from the series "Billions". In the end it's just a new form of uniformization.

This is what happens when companies become too large. Not too large through their own merit. Beyond a certain size, further growth is only possible if they themselves lend at higher interest rates than the interest on their debts that they have to pay off. From that point on, they become toxic, and all the perversities you describe take place.

https://blog.google/technology/safety-security/updating-our-inactive-account-policies/

Google's goal here is to wipe out inactive accounts and then begin implementing draconian "security" measures and identity requirements on all of their users. The direction is obvious, and the rest of the traditional internet dominated by big tech companies is moving in this direction as well.

The only way you can combat this is by joining platforms like Nostr, making the regulations that they will no doubt try to pass irrelevant.

Although I agree with you, I'm also not 100% convinced by this system here that could either lead to majority tyranny (especially in commercial marketplaces, it's not just social media here) and thereby enable a quasi-monopolization of individual providers, or eventually introduce a certain trust or reputation system - even eventually must - to cope with growing numbers of participants.

Google started the same way. Completely innocent and fair in the beginning. Then came some villains who could easily deceive several honest participants. Then came the countermeasures and a reputation system and Page Rank, and now we have today's Google. Rewinding repeatedly and still following the same path is also not the solution.

The Internet itself is already the most decentralized system. Nostr is just a small garden within it. We are merely repeating the same behavioral patterns here due to a lack of truly innovative ideas.

Why not? This network needs some different content. And since there are more an more Muslims here ...

Id' keep everything under one account but just because I'm too lazy to switch.

Is there actually a greater household disaster than dropping a glass bottle full of maple syrup on the floor, which then shatters into a thousand pieces?

Helpful article, just connected,

If someone like my post and did zap and someone zap thorough profile.

Both collection happen in one wallet?

Yes its the same wallet. BlueWallet is just an additional view on it. You should see my last zap in both, in BlueWallet and in the Alby web interface.

I like #WooCommerce, but sometimes it really sucks. Sometimes the most basic functions for operating a global online store require an extra paid add-on.

It's too focused on the US market and is actually still far from being a global brand.

It's the Europeans' fault, I know. They should bring something of their own onto the market. Especially when they have such complicated legislation of their own. Unfortunately they don't, and probably can't. Neither in terms of competence nor potential market size can they keep up.

What are you using? Could be that your client does it automatically. Primal doesn't do it for example.

Interesting concept

You also have to always be clear that it is certain power structures and groups that many psychologists say consist of 80% psychopaths that cause the most harm. The ordinary civilian, on both sides, is usually a normal, good person.

You can use your Alby address on phone too. Install BlueWallet from the Play Store and import the Alby wallet, as described here: https://mslmdvlpmnt.com/a-beginners-guide-to-nostr/ (scroll to the end of the article)

A lot of akhis that joined Nostr lately. Mostly coming from the X site. Assalamu alaykum and welcome!

"(The attitude of) Ribaa in and of itself is proof that someone is no longer concerned with the next life."

[From Tafsir 2:257 - 2:263]

"If we are really convinced, that Islam is a solution for modern day problems, then it should be us researching a modern day alternative to ribaa. We should at least explore the alternative. Because this is an evil that hurts all humanity."

[From Tafsir 2:264 - 2:277]

"And Allah does not love every single one of those who are excessively disobidient, excessively ungrateful and constantly in sin. Someone who engages in ribaa is engaged in an incredible act of ingratitude towards Allah. So they're constantly, always in sin (because ribaa is growing every second). What kind of dua they make will be answered to them?"

Good point. At least these are clear gestures irl. Online, a Like is cheap and can mean many things. It can even mean "hey, I didn't read what you said, but notice me, I'm here".

Tell me anything more worthless than a Like on Nostr. There isn't even an algo here.
