I’ve done some more testing and I wasn’t able to find a solid solution for contact payments - ideally combined with messaging. Do I miss something?

I don’t know about any serious fork.. But I want to understand how it works.. So the question is how much is the protocol independent on specific app. Since there are no metadata?

Would I be able to interact with nostr:nprofile1qqs8t4ehcdrjgugzn3zgw6enp53gg2y2gfmekkg69m2d4gwxcpl04acppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnswf5k6ctv9ehx2ap0l2sp3z users from its fork?

Dear Friends,

2025 has been BitcoinWalk's most transformative year yet. We now have regular walks spanning 4 continents and dozens of countries, with new communities launching almost weekly.

Each Saturday as I walk with friends here in Madeira, I'm reminded that BitcoinWalk's greatest strength is community building. Together, we're creating a parallel world beyond the Fiat Matrix—one with fair monetary rules where no one can confiscate the fruits of your labor, and where your time and energy can be confidently saved for the future. These conversations inspired me to double down on BitcoinWalk's mission.

We've just launched our significantly improved website! After considerable development, we've eliminated our reliance on Google Maps. You can now copy coordinates directly into any map app you prefer, like OpenStreetMap. As believers in FreedomTech over BigTech, this matters. We've also enhanced the experience for finding and starting walks, with exciting nostr features on the horizon.

Our roadmap includes publishing BitcoinWalk events natively on nostr, making events discoverable across platforms like Orange Club and Satlantis. I'm also collaborating with HodlBod to implement Flotilla as our nostr-based group chat solution.

Here's where I need your help: Development costs for these improvements have been significant. While we've kept expenses lean by working with efficient partners, your contributions would directly enable us to continue building and scaling these community tools.

If BitcoinWalk has added value to your life, please consider supporting our mission:

- Zap this post (publicly)

- Send sats to bitcoinwalk@getalby.com (privately)

Every contribution—large or small—helps us expand this movement and bring more people into our parallel Bitcoin economy.

To every BitcoinWalk host: thank you for your dedication this year. You're the heartbeat of this community.

Have a wonderful Christmas, and let's make 2026 even bigger! 🎄

What is the meaning of this BTC pill in cashu.me wallet?🤔

- It doesn’t seem sufficiently explored. When I tried to understand it, it felt like transaction trees keep growing and can’t be merged together.

- The WoS implementation reuses the same address. Anyone who pays you once can read your entire transaction history.

- I’m worried about centralization. Overall, I have the impression that it lacks a bit of honesty - it doesn’t have good documentation, yet it’s already in production in several applications that charge fees for it.

But these are more impressions than solid conclusions… I’ll need to study it more thoroughly.

After some research I feel that cashu is the next starting point for newcomers. I have tested Zeus, Cashu.me, eNuts, Minibits, Sovran, Nutstash, and Macadamia. Each of them have some nuances, but none of them fit to my needs.. or rather needs that I observe around me.

## What do I want from a wallet

- Trust in long live maintenance

- Reliability without significant UX changes in time

- Data storage - not losing cashu tokens, nor contacts

- Generate automatically 12 words on the background and utilize it for nostr, evolu?, and even onchain addresses potentially

- Enforce words backup when reaching predefined threshold - ie 1 000 000 sat

- Automated mint selection

- Either based on first receive or from nostr ratings

- Automated contact creation

- Ideally LN address (from preselected mint), but even npub can be sufficient

- Localization

- Fiat rates and translation for small countries

- Direct flow for send and receive

- No selection between cashu, LN, onchain, scan/NFC, …

- Aways go with lightning executed via cashu

I don’t know yet. VPN helps or you can still use POS or LN address to receive. But future is unknown and not pleasant for normies.

Proposed Spark has very very bad privacy as of now. Basically anyone who pays you can read your whole transaction history. But it can be improved.

Finally we have a motivation for upgrade on another level

Ok. Than I will continue reckless 😀

Is there any testnet coinjoin coordinator?

This works better than what you would expect, but not always.

Two good friends of mine asked for my advice about how to bring their salary into the country without having to go through the forced selling imposed by the central bank, and I convinced them to ask their employers to pay them in bitcoins. Both complained that by doing that they would be seen as problematic or unreasonable, but I insisted and told them that if their employers do not want to pay them in what they want to be paid, then they were not valued by their employers. They have been paid in bitcoin since then.

A few months after that, an old employer of mine requested me to help them with a very serious problem they had with their biggest customer, and I accepted only if they would pay me in bitcoin. They accepted the condition and I solved their problem that same day, but then they refused to pay me in bitcoin, arguing that it was difficult and that their accountant was not happy and so on. I also refused to accept pesos and that was all. Now they cannot call me never again, what is okay.

This is the way 👏

I think there are more effects in place. I agree that it is probably better to onboard everyone.

But if I should choose what to focus on I would prefer to make first merchant more solid. So that he sees the bitcoin in action. He can than help with onboarding others and become useful bitcoin beacon - for example for p2p buy and sell.

In another words I think that (at least in my neighborhood) we need now more people paying with bitcoin than merchants who accepts it.

"Keep your wealth stored in a way that doesn't stress you out."

If holding bitcoin makes you anxious, then don't hold any. Personally, I'm more worried about keeping money in fiat, so I only hold the bare minimum I currently need.

Testing new onboarding approach. Giving NFC card with some sats on it as a tip.

It’s reusable. You don’t loose the sats until receiver accepts them. Almost any lighting wallet can be used. Ecash would work too, but it’s not yet that adopted so I keep using LNURLw.
