just shows that game cartridges are a cripple nowadays and this will make "collectors" transition over to digital as well. retail distribution used to make 2/3 of a games price, is what we once learned at the university. pair that with everyone who can afford a 20+ USD game, probably also has internet at home, mandatory day 1 patches, unfinished games that are the norm and all of a sudden, this cripple of a product makes sense again. it's basically somewhat of an ad-banner now, containing access to the product, while still being creating visibility in stores.

Have fun with your "truth" then. Don't come crying later. Everyone interested can read our past discussions and make up his own mind. You anyways will never change without being punched by reality, so you'll deserve what's coming. I just hope you will use it as an opportunity to grow.

I didn't expect arguments, we already discussed and you weren't able to comprehend any it seems. :/

This has some "good" usecases by the definition of who? Yes, YOUR definition. Bitcoin is not YOU though. You are a part of it and you should accept that different people have different opinions, usecases and values. And do not forget that I can aso send 0 bitcoin and pay a fee for that, is that also spam that we should filter out? Why?

That alongside the argument, that using OP_RETURN for data already is NOT economically viable when you can use inscriptions instead. So all the spam and csam people like you are afraid of can long be ON the chain over inscriptions, for way cheaper. Your computer might have 2 drives, C and D. C is faster and there you download your CSAM to have quicker access. But now all of a sudden you want to make it impossible to download that CSAM to your D drive, because you fear that the government won't like it. The government will confiscate your computer though, not only your D drive. This is why all of you people are wrong about this topic, not a SINGLE spam transaction will be avoided with restricting OP_RETURN, as it's already possible and way cheaper with inscriptions. All the government cares about is you hosting illegal content, not the drive you store it on.

You have been lied to and you were mislead, but so was I. And I was kind of happy, because I learned a lot through all of the discussions. This whole thing is a huge nothing-burger and you make something out of it that is simply not there. Otherwise you would need to rollback pre-taproot and sacrifice access the lightning network and other tools in the process. If you want that, go ahead. We will be there for you when you come back. :)

What if I attach a link to pornhub in my "monetary transaction". Is it spam then as well? Because we have to be precise here, IF you insist on not staying neutral.

I also run knots, but only to support node software decentralization. The moment this softfork happens, I will go to core30. And there are a lot of node runners like me.

So how are all transactions unrelated to me not spam? And whats IS money? If you don't have a clear answer to that, that supports anything you laid out here, you stand on the wrong side of this discussion.

without limit, bitcoin is neutral, with limit not. your man/woman comparison is exactly the other way around. staying neutral towards this topic and let others decide, which is what bitcoin should be. lets others decide and do its thing, why would bitcoin need code to participate in a man/woman debate? i don't want bitcoin to do that. same with what is spam and what isn't.

You are being lied to. It doesn't prevent that at all. In fact, that's already long possible and even cheaper ON CHAIN with inscriptions. Opening OP_RETURN is no incentive at all, because it's the same but severely more expensive. But that's the thing, it people like you who do not get it. Same as the BSV people that still exist. Data can be stored on Bitcoin, it's even cheaper with Inscriptions, this change adds no incentive to add any data that you name.... It's like you reject physics, but physics doesn't care about your opinion of physics. You are its slave, not the other way around. Same as the whole world is slave to Bitcoin and some get it and some don't. Those who try to, live easier live. Form your own opinions and don't blindly follow nostr:nprofile1qy8hwumn8ghj7mn2w4khqtndv5hszythwden5te0dehhxarj9ekxzmny9uqzpprrqa5g5z0vzy5k06c9gnnc485gcj84qufv88k5j8ljkmaqrxhgkgzyc0 . He talks confident, but if that alone lets you trust someone, you should reflect, because his content in this regard makes no sense at all. I like his other content but he is simply WRONG about this and him being so insistent and hostile towards everyone with other opinions is laughable. Lost a lot of my respect, not that it matters, but I used to speak highly about his content. I cannot recommend him anymore.

Ignorant and hostile video. I looked up to you for years, but these OP_RETURN videos are really equal to the culture wars we see everywhere else. Your softfork will become the next bitcoin cash, because it fixes nothing and everything you fight against is anyways already on the chain since a long time. If the softfork would fix something, I'd potentially support it. But it doesn't.

I support and run #bitcoinknots, because I want node-software democracy. I am against how #bitcoincore devs merged a thing that was highly controversial, just like that. HOWEVER, I will go back to #bitcoincore as soon as #bitcoinknots does a #softfork. Seriously, keep #bitcoinknots aligned with the common network and do not become another #bitcoincash, that to this day has supporters on their subreddit believing that at some point someone will be holding their useless bags. If the #softfork happens, node democracy will be gone once again. I would appreciate more options!

#bitcoin #node #softfork #bitcoinknots nostr:nprofile1qy8hwumn8ghj7mn2w4khqtndv5hszythwden5te0dehhxarj9ekxzmny9uqzpprrqa5g5z0vzy5k06c9gnnc485gcj84qufv88k5j8ljkmaqrxhgkgzyc0 nostr:nprofile1qyxhwumn8ghj7cnjvghxjme0qyt8wumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgtcqyr7at68k4cxms9a7pdca5gzf3svqd95d3fj9j4vuyj0nyta8x3j2whad7ya

"But you should be informed of what you're getting into."

Bro, Bitcoin-Core could just revert that change and you wouldn't have to write such articles. But they didn't. It's all being a conscious decision.

I run #BitcoinKnots now but I am HIGHLY on the fence! Please hear me out.

Core30:

Does increase neutrality by allowing OP_RETURN, that is significantly more expensive (4x) than just adding data to Inscriptions. It's not a bad change and CSAM already exists. And yes, it's a different way to access that data, but both needs "tools" to read it. CSAM exists since long ago though. nostr:nprofile1qy8hwumn8ghj7mn2w4khqtndv5hszythwden5te0dehhxarj9ekxzmny9uqzpprrqa5g5z0vzy5k06c9gnnc485gcj84qufv88k5j8ljkmaqrxhgkgzyc0 I'm a bit dissappointed by you not mentioning this. And you framed nostr:nprofile1qyw8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68yttjv4kxz7fwwak8vuewwdcxzcm9qythwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnxd46zuamf0ghxy6t6qqsqyredyxhqn0e4ln0mvh0v79rchpr0taeg4vcvt64te4kssx5pc0sk99k65 in an extremely unfair manner, sorry. Better talk to him than making all these baseless accusations.

Anyways, the core team just merging this change so early, despite the pullback, is an absolute no-go for me! This made me switch.

I didn't come to #Bitcoin to bow down to the next "fiat"-king. So I appreciate the freedom do chose the node implementation and I hope there will be many more, as I don't necessarily agree with the dooms day scenarios nostr:nprofile1qyxhwumn8ghj7cnjvghxjme0qyt8wumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgtcqyr7at68k4cxms9a7pdca5gzf3svqd95d3fj9j4vuyj0nyta8x3j2whad7ya predicts. I hope we will soon see many more #Bitcoin node implementations!

If you dissagree with me, I'd highly appreciate a discussion! I'm following the discussion since months and still learn new info.

I wanted to speak,

But nothing came out.

My mind was confused,

The words not allowed.

All of my own doing,

No others to blame.

Now crying in silence,

Feel nothing but shame.

We think they come easy,

Our God-given rights.

They perish in silence;

Unless someone fights.

But who is this fighter?

Is it you? Is it me?

It comes down to courage.

The courage to be.

Why not remain silent?

Why say things at all?

Why tear down the comfort,

Of this prison wall.

Compliance is easy,

Resistance is not.

We need to SPEAK CLEARLY

A rule we forgot.

It's all dia-Logos,

Allein or zu zweit,

A chat between friends;

You alone, late at night.

Without speaking clearly,

Proper thought can not form.

Free Speech is not optional,

It must be the norm.

So FUCK all the censors,

Both big and so small,

And fuck myself too,

For preaching to all.

We need more conversation,

And less claims of Truth.

Way more compassion.

"Corruption of Youth?"

They killed him for questions.

He wouldn't shut up.

But "they" are still with us,

And he drank the cup.

There is no distinction,

No "them" and no "us,"

So why all the fighting?

What is all the fuss?

P doom equals zero,

Some old crazy guy claims.

It's hard to agree.

We all live in chains!

Of our own making,

Of thought and of bytes,

confusion and silence;

There's no given rights.

Rights must be defended,

Or lest they may fall,

The fight is decisions,

To be made by all.

Should I stay on the platform?

Should I leave? Should I fight?

Should I build my own platform?

Should I enter the light?

The light that is Logos,

the word that redeems.

That speaks truth and beauty,

and is good—so it seems.

We don't need no platforms.

No login; no sign-up.

Get a key and some relays;

Sign your words and speak up!

I know it's not easy,

Though simple it sounds.

But it is your duty!

Responsibility abounds.

Some of us are tiny;

Some have a huge heart.

I'm still a bit whiny;

But all ends are starts.

I wanted to speak,

But nothing came out.

So now I'll just send it,

No censors allowed.

damn, this belongs to the frontpage of nostr.org

An idea to make filters effective, instead of keeping them almost useless (because if miners don't care, they won't do much if I understand correctly): A bitcoin node that does filtering gets a block found by a miner who does not filter "spam". It will therefore not propagate it through the network for a full minute until it starts forwarding it, giving other miners that mine with the filter-software that additional minute to find a block that follows the own filtering rules? Would something like that work? This way, we use economical incentives instead of morales, which is the only thing that works without a huge effort, as of my current understanding. That additional minute is way more heavy than the little extra miner fee from the "spam".

Even on centralized platforms you can never be certain about deletion since others can screenshot/archive. So I’m going to assume you are looking for a reasonably effective delete/edit solution that competes with what’s out there.

We might get reasonably effective delete/edit functionality within coordinated clients at some point, but it will never ever be absolute. A proper decentralized solution here also requires time stamps… and everybody hates the guy that made NIP-03 possible right now so I don’t see it being solved soon.

The thing that really matters for deletion anyway is media- which is a reference that you can (and should) maintain control of. Delete the source and voila. But the screenshotting/right-clicking risk remains.

I was in the no-delete absolutist camp until nostr:nprofile1qqsf07zg4hxyccnkdp07fppxmetpfzru3fg6mgzx3nk8r7af8qnjjygpr9mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuumwdae8gtnnda3kjctv9uq3vamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwd4hhxarj9ec82c30gr0un9 correctly made a point that kids can be dumb and should be able to delete photos. So I agree with his concerns there (and encourage people to self host media if that’s a concern). I remain skeptical of the feasibility of deleting direct event data contained in JSON that is broadcast and bounced around relays beyond anyone’s control.

Ultimately decentralized designs require tradeoffs, and this is one issue among many that get amplified… and where the only true solution is *personal responsibility*. It is not solvable in an absolute sense, and all solutions require tradeoffs towards centralization (yes, including client coordination).

if we all stood anonymous (and not use our "followers" as thing to give our argument more weight, therefore also moving to new profiles/keys here and there, would be an option. but yeah i have no clear opinion either. the "public person on nostr" usecase is still an important usecase. but the fact remains: it's probably what got wiped from the history books and other sources, that is most interesting or most relevant. i hate delete buttons, i only like them for myself, if you catch my meaning.

1) I guess ppl who were and are still now against non-monetary uses of bitcoin are simply "monetary maxis" who want btc to function PRIMARILY for monetary purposes (and I am one of those). I don't mind if btc is used for other purposes, but I feel like we first need to establish btc as monetary protocol, and only AFTER this is secured then sure, add other stuff on it as long as they don't interfere with the monetary use cases.

Don't know enough about Taproot to express an opinion here. If you feel like wasting time explaining to me much appreciated, otherwise I'll dig into it!

2) Here I don't agree man. I think the mining fee will be more than enough for the next few decades, it is more than enough giving current and future btc price. Also, the difficulty adjustment is there to balance the mining ecosystem, I think it works great as it is and interfering by "manipulating" miners fee seems unneccessary and mostly a bad direction/priority to take (do we really need to prioritise and help huge miners? is that where our help should be directed?).

Also, nobody likes to see an empty memepool, but filling it with spam just so we can say it's full I don't think is the solution here (again, because tx fees are not what makes miners give up or take mining in the first place)

3) We are on the same page here man, we want the same thing. I don't give a shit about getting rich, this is a matter of contributing to the creation of a free monetary network and all the beautiful consequences that this entails. I hope I'm wrong but I thik we'll have to support the future hard fork sooner than we think, this whole thing smells fishy.....

might be that I am in my own bubble (and I am because I care about btc being money and nothing else) but all the "influencers" I follow are opposed to this change (btc session, the bitcoin way, bitcoin not crypto, Bram, Mattew krater, Jeff Booth). The only influencer I follow which is in favour if this is Lyn Alden, and her rational is what worries me the most as in one of her comment she said "do you think there's more demand for non-monetary uses of btc? then let's allow it"

2) >do we really need to prioritise and help huge miners

No, we help all miners. Not only the big ones? Also, calling non-monetary transactions "spam" is a bit one sided in my opinion. Sure, you can see it as spam, but why is that spam and all other transactions unrelated to you are not? Both are to no use for you and you still store both on your own node.

3) AFAIK Luke Dashjr is the ONLY contributor to bitcoin knots and he commits without reviews. I didn't fact check this, but that would be an issue towards me. The OP_RETURN unlimited thing is less important than an introduced vulnerability that nobody is aware of.

I know that we both want the same. My concerns are anyways for things far in the future. But imho, we need economical incentives and not morales. That being said, I don't care if this OP_RETURN limits gets increased or not, but I'm still not sure how I think about this "filtering" thing. I think filters are here to stay, but I just don't see how they are effective, if they don't follow economical incentives, because miners will use the software that does. Miners want the max amount of bitcoins possible for the least amount of invested energy. Knots nodes not forwarding these transactions is useless, as the big miners anyways have direct connections with each other.

I prefer following economical incentives, as long as the network remains stable. If we see that we took the wrong path, we should fix it from there. If we see that it works, then we have created the best bitcoin possible.
