It's what cloud free was selling at the time. It looks like there are more options for zigbee devices than z-wave right now.
There's an integration for ESPHome. I'm not sure if it supports everything that ESPHome can do since I've only been using it as a proxy. Updating firmware seems to require a chromium-based browser
I use Xiaomi Bluetooth and Aqara zigbee sensors from cloudfree.shop
Bluetooth are cheaper but need an ESPHome proxy in range. Zigbee is a little easier because of the automatic meshing, which can be done with a few Ikea smart plugs.
I had one in my freezer and the temperature seemed close enough, but the battery didn't last as long.
Yes, but be careful not to add so much at once that it creates an impenetrable layer, just like grass clippings. Paper is cellulose and lignin, which are fungal foods.
It might be slower, but I prefer doing this work by hand.

This guy keeps chipping away at this project and it looks better all the time.
I love all the work Paul Wheaton does with rocket stoves and heaters but sometimes the foot print for those things are enormous and awkward to retrofit into smaller spaces. So I ended up just putting a conventional wood stove in the shed. Perhaps something similar to this with a small mass this could work well in such a space as well as in an outdoor kitchen.

Thanks for sharing, I love seeing the experimentation. I'm still building J-tubes, but I want to try batch boxes sometime.
Have you you seen Matt Walker's tiny cook stove and other designs? https://walkerstoves.com/videos/
OpenFlexure, a 3D-printed microscope, with automated stage and auto-focus to scan samples. Looks good enough for soil microscopy. https://openflexure.org/

I still enjoy ferry rides.
I saw it and sent a reply and they're both gone now. I'll try again.
I'd say it's likely to be less bad due excluding the risk of bio-accumulation of things. I suspect fish oil is cheaper because most fish oil is made from the waste of fish processing. Algae oil production is probably smaller scale too.
Some people really like algae oil because it doesn't give them "fish burps" like fish oil can.
I like algae oil over fish oil for the omega 3s. Fish get it from eating the algae, but also concentrate other toxins. Algae can be grown cleanly on land.
I've been sleeping on pears. Holy Toledo.
This is 14 cups of cooked keiffer pears. It's a fairly grainy pear, but real nice flavor. Cooked, it tastes like there's vanilla in there in with a great pear flavor.
We're making pear butter with inspiration from a recipe I found online. Ours will be the 14 cups of cooked pear puree, 1 1/2 cup of sucanat, 2 tsp dried orange peel, and 1/2 cup of orange juice.
Original recipe: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/75545/pear-butter/
Any #perry makers? Would that vanilla flavor stay in a perry? #grownostr #asknostr #homeorchard #fall
Fermentation is pretty hard on delicate flavors. It might stay or could be added back. Maybe soak some oak chips in vanilla then add the vanilla?
What do you think about using AI as a therapist? I've been experimenting with it using local AI models and it seems helpful, although I've never tried therapy myself. One aspect I really liked about the local AI is total privacy and no judgement.
Built it myself. Code is available and I'll be doing build guide soon. https://github.com/zappityzap/compost-sensor
