The Conscious Contrarian challenges conventional wisdom to uncover new, more attuned principles and perspectives for navigating the future.

It is now fully possible to be interacting with an AI bot on Twitter or here without noticing it. As this situation becomes more pervasive, how is it going to change people’s behavior on these platforms?

#americanpioneers #5 - Parallels between the American frontier of the 18th century and the frontier of cyberspace we're exploring today.

In a recent podcast on Portal Orange , @`saylor`talks about the parrallels between the early history of the American colonies and the moment we live in today with the astonishing rise of #Bitcoin and cyberspace. This is a really interesting insight that I believe we can learn a lot from and that I will keep exploring here over the coming weeks through some brief notes in this series.

I highly recommend the podcast but here are some of my notes:

- The germination of the unique American psyche occurred as a direct result of the unique conditions in the colonies and on the frontier. The frontier ethos that arose is not dissimilar from the unique psyche germinating in the world of #Bitcoin and #nostr with ideas like radical self reliance.

- A major reason for this was the freedom available to settlers in the colonies. The freedom to simply cross borders between colonies (and to the west) meant that there was competition and a race to the top especially when it came to offering property rights to citizens and refraining from irrational rule. This is not too dissimilar from the dynamic introduced by the emergence of Bitcoin, which allows people to leave a jurisdiction without having to leave their entire property behind. There is reason to believe a similar virtuous competition between jurisdictions could arise as a result.

- The new frontier we're all exploring today is the frontier of cyberspace, which is a whole new domain and which will arguably facilitate a new human frontier ethos.

Thanks again for drawing my attention to the podcast @`plebiANON`!

lol wait wasn’t this guy pro Bitcoin (anti his Dad) not too long ago?

I find the idea of fate at least as difficult to believe as that of a multiverse.

I’m probably not up to speed on the latest in quantum theory but as far as I know you can have uncertainty even without multiverses?

This brings up the fascinating question whether targeted advertising is a net benefit for society…

Those on the pro side of this discussion say that it’s useful for businesses to find customers in an efficient way. They even say that users should want ads that are tailored to them.

I find myself on the con side of this discussion. While I don’t believe targeted ads should be banned, I certainly don’t think users should want to be consistently tempted to buy ever more things they don’t need by ever better ads.

Anarcho-capitalism has no democratic process, no public councils, & no political leaders of any kind. All services would be privately supplied & funded, & anyone who does not like a particular service would be able to support a competitor or start their own.

I suspect that getting from here to there will involve a lot of active local disregard for federal & state laws & any other dictates of larger institutions. And I think those larger institutions will increasingly lack the resources & political will needed to enforce any decent sort of justice or order. This seems likely to happen at all levels at once, & I think we can already see it happening with States & counties defying federal demands around covid, States effectively nullifying federal drug & gun laws, etc. Uber, is actually a decent example; it started in direct defiance of taxi monopolies in most major cities, but they were too popular to kill by the time legal action was attempted. Uber isn't even decentralized. I think we will see truly decentralized versions of all sorts of services that will undermine all sorts of laws & regulations. Eventually the political institutions that remain will just be seen as irrelevant groups of incompetent authoritarian weinies hurling empty threats to annoy the people who are actually doing something productive.

Smaller communities may be more successful in the short to medium term. I suspect major cities will continue to degrade into socialist hellholes, as has been the trend for some time.

Well described potential scenario.

I guess a key factor is going to be just how much violence and coercion the decaying institutions are going to be able to muster? I suspect this is going to vary a lot, in some places they are going to fight brutally (see France, parts of the US recently), in others there is going to be little resistance.

This guy is not very smart, so not too surprised. What’s more surprising is that the CNBC talking heads are really starting to get it

Love the ability to see new followers on #primal. This really helps with engaging with new folks on here!

What are #Bitcoin and #nostr’s Rocky Mountain Rendezvous?

Fearless digital pioneers meeting to trade stories and update each other on the latest new tools?

I know there is Bitcoin Ski Summit in the Rockies, there is Nostrasia and Nostrica, there is Bitcoin 2023. How can we make them even moe special? nostr:note19g52c4h0es395z68sceg2x068kuv2h95wtkx2qp60xheyfx4xdeqk20x9g

#americanpioneers #4 - Rocky Mountain Rendezvous

The below is a painting by Alfred Jacob Miller of a typical Rocky Mountain Rendezvous - an annual meeting of fur trappers, traders and companies held between 1825 and 1840.

In the words of famous mountain man James Beckwourth: "Mirth, songs, dancing, shouting, trading, running, jumping, singing, racing, target-shooting, yarns, frolic, with all sorts of extravagances that white men or Indians could invent."
