Coracle and Iris don’t even display a nostr address on posts. What’s the point then?
It's for finding you, not verifying you. I switched to showing a "you follow this person" icon since it's the only self authenticating thing we have.

If I post a phishing link and ask people to click x y x for a chance at 5 mil sats, some may actually do it without checking the people to see that it wasn’t me.
I agree. nostr seems to need a lot a lot of work before it is used my the masses. If the proper installments are made and development continues I could see nostr being the future of media and entertainment however in its current state it seems to be a very niche community that could impose danger on unversed individuals

User testing. Record yourself using various clients, or record others if you can trying for the first time. Maybe friends or family who know nothing about nostr. Let them express themselves without interrupting or helping.

A nip5 username would work but only if it was different from the display name and I’ll not sure if we can force that.
