With all the chicken people here there must be some tips on peeling hard boiled eggs.

Please, my sanity depends on it.

Pre-crack them. A slight fissure is all you need. Shells come off almost perfectly every time.

Thanks

my dad had a needle in a cork and would prick a small hole in one end of the eggs he was going to boil.

I just bring them to boil in water in a sauce pot on the stove.

turn down the water simmer for for a total time of 10 minutes (from cold to cooked).

dump some water off, rinse with cold water until you can handle them .

put them back into the carton & write HARD in red sharpie.

Good advice

Farm fresh I assume? I dump about 1/8 cup of baking soda in a large pot when i bring to a boil.

Or i date my eggs each day with a pencil , and set aside however many you want for about two weeks. ( I still add baking soda)

Store or road stand.

Momma boils ours in the instapot and immediately puts them in ice water. Works good.

I will try that

Cold/Ice water is what I always heard. But I’m not big on boiled eggs so I don’t do it often enough to give advice really.

But you stopped by and that is appreciated

Use older eggs and steam them instead of boiling them. If you are buying them from a store you're hosed. My chickens stopped laying this winter and I had to buy store bought and due to the egg shortage the eggs were too new and I couldn't get them to peel at all. I tried every method that I knew of but finally gave up.

Oi, don't have chickens yet.

Super easy dude. Do it.

Use 2week old eggs.

Cheers

Agree on the steaming. I do the instant pot 5 5 5 method. 5 min of steaming, 5 min of resting, 5 min in ice water.

The Instant pot is hands down the best way! I set mine for either 5 or 6 minutes and then forget about them for a hot minute and then just throw them back into the fridge and peel later that day, peel perfect every time.

Thanks

Super easy. We make probably 24-36 a week (in a few batches).

1. Prick your egg bottoms.

2. Place in pot.

3. Fill with cold water to one knuckle over eggs.

4. Bring to a boil uncovered stirring eggs gently occasionally.

5. When water comes to a rolling boil, turn off heat, cover pot and let site for 10 minutes.

6. Dump hot water and rinse eggs with cold water while shaking the pot back and forth to crack eggs. Do this 4 times.

7. Cover eggs with cold water and peel asap.

You’ll get perfect yellow yolks and easy to peel eggs almost every time.

Tip: The older the eggs, the easier to peel.

Wow. That is a process. Thanks alot

that's similar to the way I do it. I stopped pricking the bottoms, though.

oh, save the water you boiled them in... it's rich in calcium. don't just dump it down the drain, that's a waste.

Interesting. Hadn't heard that before. Makes sense though

I throw in a spoonful of baking soda, then run cold water over them as soon as the time is up. Works great never had a problem even with today's eggs

Right when you take the eggs out of the boiling water, dunk them in ice water for at least 10 seconds.

Shell peels off a lot easier.

Steam them either with an insta-pot or I have also used a metal cauldron resting over a pot of boiling water and putting the lid for the pot in the cauldron. Ice then for a few mins then get them out and dry again. I think air gets under the shell and makes it easier to peel.
