Dude, League of Legends was an entirely free game that made boatloads off selling skins.

This is a great idea that some should try. Profile “skins” and badges based on project support would be really interesting. Could revive badges too if they could be given/taken based on a length of time or status of support for a certain project or client.

This is a social network, I think exploring ways to monetize social signaling is actually a smart strategy.

Between Zap splits, Premium accounts, and ideas like “skins,” I really think there *must* be a viable monetization strategy for an engaged community here. nostr:note1t3jkccxmcmugdy4zz6s308yrcjt8a8urf0xr8y2093jgzs3p24esvmv40f

You can even tie in nostr education into all of it. This was the idea behind one of the concepts I shared a while back that didn’t get much attention.

Where / how do I set up zap set up splits?

Honest question didn’t primal raise 1mm? Both Damus and it are open source ( please correct me if wrong ). Thoughts on funding like that?

I prefer the freemium model when it’s only cosmetics locked behind a paywall, rather than features/gameplay. Memory may be wrong, but I believe DOTA 2 all heroes were free, whereas League had heroes behind a paywall.

Definitely agree that this is worth exploring for monetization though. Hope someone can figure it out and show a path forward for projects who need it.

signal does a badge for different levels of support and I don't know if it incentives donations. I donate to them when I can but not for a badge.

It would be great if there were a protocol-level method for client developers to earn money. So that the more people use a particular client, the more developers earn. While skins, premiums, and such are great, they can make it harder for new clients to emerge.

Essentially, I want a competitive market of clients that incentivizes the development of the most innovative and useful apps.

I don't believe it can be done without protocol-level incentives.

you can let me “rent” skin (for 30 day may be ?) once my zap (that split to devs) reach … amount. Or let me “buy” it when my zap that split to dev reach …… amount.

This incentives me to set up zap split to devs and getting some value back in return while zapping for valued content of content creator

I don’t care if it sound like fiat business model or not because users can choose their own client anyways and I think exchanging values based on choices and free will is free market way

But devs are not artists

This gonna be quite a challenge to put it together 😅

This is a really great video on how league dominated the gaming scene with their monetization strategy.

Freemium is the best model for most software imo. Nostr and bitcoin almost have to do this model without compromising on ethics.

The problem is that anyone can add new "protocol" for skins... and the incentives are to do so.

All which runs on main, buttercup.

LOL I would buy all that stuff for SATS on a client.

Been recently thinking of similar things for mapstr.xyz. skins for a user who donated I hadn't thought of. Thanks!
