I’ve always been interested in who exactly makes up the larger nostr community. I feel like they are a lot of assumptions about the demographics and values of the people who use nostr regularly.

The loudest voices on nostr don’t necessarily speak for the majority, which probably makes it difficult to create effective solutions to improve the platform and grow the community.

It would be interesting to develop a survey of some sort to help us truly understand what people like and dislike about nostr and identify opportunities for growth.

I would love to hear people’s opinions on what information would be helpful to collect and even connect with folks who may interested on collaborating on something like this.

The #Bitcoin halving is priced in for the 0.1% of the world population that understands it. the other 99.9% aren’t paying attention. get ready for the green candles🚀

This is the phase we’ve been preparing for since the lows of late 2022, Until then just keep stacking, and build your sats with passive arbitrage tools to 100x your sats.

If you’re a fan of #bitcoin and you haven't rebelcapitalist yet then I don’t even know what you’re doing here!

I'd be very interested in learning about "unwanted content" experiences, and about what Nostriches have been doing about it.

Maybe:

1. Tell me about the first time you came across content on Nostr that you really didnt want to see?

2. What are the most common forms of "unwanted content" you encounter on Nostr and would prefer not to see?

3. What do you do now to avoid "unwanted content" on Nostr?

4. On a scale from "very important" to "not at all important", how much does unwanted content on Nostr bother you?

5. How many months approximately have you been using Nostr?

I'm cool with free response, we can have multiple choice answers in the next wave once we have a better idea of what bothers people.

1. Immediately

2. Gm offends me. I mean, how dare you

3. Not at all

4. What are u a fed?

Also make it blue whatever you are doing. Blue is nice.

^ Your average survey respondent :p

here to help

Your responses will make Nostr a better place, and help the CEO justify the decision she already made.

Can we add you to our mailing list so our trusted partners can spam you to tears?

take my fiats

😂

I mean, if you want to ask where the porn is just ask where the porn is 😂

1. Basically day 1 in global feeds, but it was spam, and since basically nothing (clients/relays have come a long way)

2. I don't

3. I haven't really needed to. Hit mute list if I need to

4. It doesn't. I'm sure plenty of unwanted content exists, but I don't see it in my feeds

5. About 9 months with high frequency

Good questions. Nostr hasn’t figured out a good way to give people control over content they see beyond the mute button, which only works after the fact.

dooope! i run a relay for my community and been interested in understanding people's understandings of them. there are relays in places like Japan that only accept notes fron japenese ip addresses that could hold insights into how relay software could evolve to better facilitate region specific or more niche communities and eventually replace discord. i'm down to contribute my own experience around running a relay to help out!

i also remember seeing a note about nostr being HIPPA compliant in the united states, meaning maybe nostr could have clinical application? interested in what doctors or mental health professionals think about this.

aslo interested in how many people are posting to nostr via mesh networks with meshtastic, though thas still pretty new i think.

nostr meshtastic is the next adventure. Any good links / communities?

I am extremely interested in nostr-on-mesh-networks

I always feel wary of data collection… there’s too much of it everywhere.

That said, most Nostr content doesn’t interest me, I’m an independent musician and sound engineer so my world is far removed from nonstop bitcoin and Nostr talk. In answer to the

first of nostr:npub1494rtg3ygq4cqawymgs0q3mcj6hucvu4kmadv03s5ey2sg32df5shtzmp0 ‘s questions. I got objectionable content on sign up from a bot, which I think was some sort of test to see if I can handle ‘free speech’. Free speech to me is more free Julian Assange than yay I can say retard but if that’s someone’s jam, that’s on them.

I’m here because I understand the importance of information networks and I dislike platforms that dictate what I see and actively seek to do harm for profit.

I mostly use the Fediverse, that being my only social media platform since 2019. Nostr is a protocol, not a corporation. That interests me.

Makes me happy to see people who aren't foaming bitcoiner anarchocapitalist software developers being active on Nostr (I am all these things, but I don't want to be entirely surrounded by them). Especially if they're artists and musicians.

Please don't go anywhere, Nostr needs you as much as devs and sats

But while I'm on it, set up a zaps wallet! I tried to zap you but couldn't. People are trying to give you money

Thanks and nice to meet you! The lightning side I’m finding pretty tough at the moment. I’m using Primal but ideally I’d rather run from my own node/self custody etc. Not sure why zaps aren’t working, works the other direction!

I can probably work it out but it would take me a day, where as someone more familiar with the tech could probably do in10mins.

I’ll pursuit though, digital dystopia is a big concern for me, especially now you can make songs inputting a handful of words, even if I think they’re shit, it doesn’t mean they won’t find economic value!

Re Lightning, I'm not entirely sure what's going wrong for you but I'm also using Primal and it works for me. Do you have a lighting address set up? (See screenshots of settings > wallet and profile > edit profile)

I think your right to prefer self custody in general, but I've only got a few thousand sats in the primal wallet and I think that's completely acceptable and convenient. Send it out to a self custody wallet later.

I failed to add the screenshots to the last note doh

I thought Primal functioned as its own wallet in iOS? I also have Phoenix and Mutiny but neither seems to have a NWC and invoices are different to a lightning address right? I’ve seen I could link via ZapplePay, I’ll take a proper look when I’m not at work.

Does your Primal app show a lightning address like mine does? I'm not sure if "Primal Wallet enabled" is synonymous with "also has a lighting address enabled" but I'm suspecting it's not and you have the former (so can send) but not the latter (cannot receive)

No it’s blank, whether I click the Primal Wallet Enabled tab or not… Weird as I seem to be able to zap people, at least the sats disappear…

Looks like I’ll need to get a node up and running I guess.

you can send from the primal wallet but cannot receive to a lightning address.

I would recommend getting in touch with primal on Nostr or elsewhere and asking how to set this up. I unfortunately don't remember how I did it!

Worked it out! I was assigned a name which turns out was the lightning address, although that didn’t seem clear at the time, I thought it was a user name but I’d already registered one elsewhere! Everyday a learning day…

Totally agree with you about the digital dystopia concern. Personally, I think peer to peer tech, trust-but-verify, and sovereign (trivial to use, zero maintenance) personal servers are the only ways we avoid that calamity. Building it!

I understand your concerns about data collection. In this case, the collection and use of the information would be completely transparent. The questions also wouldn’t be invasive.
