Will Bitcoin Puritans cancel Ross for daring to say that altcoins are fascinating experiments and a broader aspect of decentralization? 🤔

I've seen some people on nostr condone him for saying that, which is completely fucking retarded, but whatever.

Right? Who would condone him for that? Condemning him for that alone would also be dumb, but condoning him for it makes no sense at all.

While I would have preferred he stuck to Bitcoin only, I can understand having fascination and curiosity when you've never had the chance to touch the stove and learn better.

Ross didn’t get to experience 2017, makes sense. I had the same thinking back in 2011

They are experiments that we already know the outcomes of. It’s been over a decade …

He has A LOT of catching up to do. Like he said himself.

He has been isolated from society since 2013. We can cut him some slack until he is up to speed with the scammers and grifters

He gets a pass

hey, Mr. orange 🤡 nostr:npub1jc0fcrufmr4phlp9uerv48yft0kqvyr8yr54ausy3c9254a08utsxrp9mh , can you put him back in? We don’t love him anymore 🤥

I’m interested in anything truly decentralized and secure. No one in charge and too large to attack. But that only seems to be bitcoin.

It was a fascinating experiment that has been run and now we know the outcome.

What we learned is valuable and can be applied to our judgement of other decentralized projects.

I can say all that and know damn well to keep my hard earned value far away from them. That was the lesson.

I'm passionate about Bitcoin but I'm also passionate about technology. I think it would be narrow minded to dismiss all other technologies. Am I going to invest in XRP? Hell no. But I'm open to hear about new technology being created. So far, I don't see a compelling reason to purchase any other coins because none of them do what Bitcoin does. I think blockchain technology has a lot of promise in the future but Bitcoin needs to be more mainstream for anyone to take blockchain seriously.

Well given that he missed all of the debates by being in prison, I think there's quite an excuse for ignorance here.

People can play with whatever toys they want to but I am not interested in any coin that has a CEO or marketing department or can be attacked at a single point of failure.

He also said "bitcoins" 🤣 lets give him some time

I consider myself a Bitcoin Maxi, but I'm not nieve enough to think that all altcoins are irrelevant. The fact is, there are a ton cool new of projects out there.

Everyone needs to touch the oven to learn.

Sooner or later Bitcoin kills all our heroes 🔪

Are you aware of his background and how he came to be free? Adds some context.

Altcoins? That’s a pretty funny thing to be upset about. How about hard drugs fueling death and addiction?

He spent a decade in prison. He is allowed time to learn about the scams.

Probably, but also, who fucking cares

Do you think altcoins are fascinating experiments and a broader aspect of decentralization?

The ones that are genuinely different and not simply clones / cash grabs. Of course, due to the nature of crypto that means it's like 0.0001% of them.

altcoins built on blockchains are not experiments, they are just grifts

there is only need for one settlement layer, everything else should have varying degrees of lesser consistency and greater decentralization

like nostr, nostr is a legitimate experiment that advances the science of distributed systems, combining many elements that form part of the layers of existing deployments such as amazon and facebook and google's less decentralized network infrastructure, and form a nexus between the global ledger and the peer to peer

the biggest lie of altcoins is a) storage and b) financialised derivative assets

a) is better done using a more peer to peer decentralised infrastructure

b) is not needed at all if you have hard money

lightning is another example of a distributed system that fills the space between totally decentralized p2p and consistent consensus based blockchain ledger like bitcoin

Does that make you a 99.9999% Bitcoin Puritan?

Give him a break. He’s just now discovering what everyone else worked out since 2013.

He’ll figure it out in 1-4 years

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that doesn’t make them right (or wrong). Although I wish him good luck trying to find anything useful in “crypto”.

Arweave is genuinely useful.

This was the same narrative 4 years ago. I remember crypto influencers pushing that crap then.

What can I say. It can be useful. BitTorrent can also be useful. AWS buckets can also be useful. These are just storage options with different tradeoffs.

Sounds like a man with an open mind, maybe Ross knows of Zenon

No we'll just say he's wrong. If he starts shilling a shitcoin then there's a problem.

Running Grin 🤡
