This is the thing that would motivate me to upgrade my nostr experience. There's a gajillion doodadamajigs all y'all techy peeps are doing and it just looks too fiddly to interest me. But a truly FOSS replacement for YouTube? Yes.
Seems easy to upload videos so I feel like this should be solvable
I’m down to contribute to something like this!
Just tried Flare and it doesn't seem to be working.
I think I recall hearing the project was abandoned.

90% of creators wouldn’t be able to afford the hosting costs
Needs a lot of cashu scaffolding, 1 or 2 years of dev I'd guess. If I'm a creator and my 10 minute HD video goes viral and gets the equivalent of100k views end-to-end, I can't be on the hook for $1,000 in CDN costs. Of course a video getting 100k views implies a much larger user base, but it's chicken and egg, and the cashu stuff would have to be done anyway (x milli-sats per second viewed, all background, something like that).
