I know that nostr is all about decentralization, but I think we need to unite on at least one front, combating CSAM and have a centralized repository of npubs that engage in its distribution. What say you, NOSTR community? 🐶🐾🫡🤔

Is this actually a problem? Who is posting it?

Oh yes, it is a problem. 🐶🐾🫡

Disgusting and illegality aside, what's your concern?

I've literally never seen one child sex pic on nostr in 2 years.

There is a fair share of it here. 🐶🐾🫡

Odd. Never even see porn here, nevermind child.

All of it that over ever seen is coming from the the bridges to the fedi

*ive

I think the solution to this problem is to give more moderation tools to users (regardless of what each relay operator decides) my solution is the same as always: categorized smart lists (mute and feed) with subscription rate ... I tested that tool in Bluesky with 300,000 users and my feed was clean of furries and this type of things, just subscribing to two lists and making my own and thus helping others who told me that thanks to my list the feed was much more clean

PD: I don't defend pedophiles, my position on the matter has always been the same

FYI, DItto is the only Nostr relay software equipped to combat CSAM because it has moderation tools.

poster.place proudly runs ditto

I speak more from the user experience... the relay operator does what he believes best for his relay... in the same way, I think what I propose isn't that difficult to implement and it works

Every competing software to nostr acts that way

Some relays will maintain it, others will not, the difference is that you don't depend only on one relay... as a user, what I should be able to do most is share my well-categorized lists of mutes (if possible, they can be displayed in a list section in the profile) and let each user decide if they want to subscribe to it or copy the npups and create his own to handle it better... basically this is what I ask for in terms of moderation issues

or at least be able to report it to the relay admin and have them block the CSAM poster

I'm missing the option to report, good clarification

Come to ditto fren. The future of Nostr

Yes. But the problem is and always will be who decides what crosses the line and not.

*** to be clear CSAM BAD ***

I think of the people who got the lives ruined because a person or a machine marked content that was mistakenly selected. If an npub gets publicly listed a pedo because of a mistake a machine or a reviewer made, that's a big deal. However I do understand this number is likely to be much smaller than the number of actual pedos sharing content. Who gets to decide, how does an appeal work. How do we handle reputational damage? How do we handle mistakes (even in code) with a public pedo registry? Do we do it like most western countries handle pedos?

Governments are going to do this if they aren't already, maybe we the despot's do what they were going to do anyway?

All good questions, I do not have the answers to any of them 🐶🐾🫡

This stuff is always a touchy subject. Where I come from it's either shoot your local pedo, or you're a pedo.

"muh protocols don't kill people"

letting governments run this or government funded operatives is certainty that it will never actually work

the governments are full of pedos

the australian government recently banned publication of a list of pedos that were found by the australian federal police for 75 years

because probably half the government is pedos

Do you mean to make some list known pubkey actor that often to post CSAM? Nostr event list or other place?

Not sure if it can help nostr.build but you can probably fetch raw event kind 9978 in wss://nfrelay.app . You can get NSFW classification data which some might capture CSAM content (if it is nude or porn). Hopefully it can help you Fishcake.

We already pre-scan and post-moderate as I mentioned, and it is no longer a huge issue for NB, but others are still having a problem as I see it often come up on Nostr 🐶🐾🫡

Media isn’t hosted on Nostr. Whoever is hosting this media needs to be made aware and held accountable. I happily pay for a nostr:npub1nxy4qpqnld6kmpphjykvx2lqwvxmuxluddwjamm4nc29ds3elyzsm5avr7 account not just for the features, but also because I know you guys do a good job moderating content.

As for creating an npub list, you can try, but it seems futile. New npubs are so easy to create and there is really no way to get relays to all coordinate and block specific ones. Even if all the major relays were on board, you couldn’t stop someone from running a relay themselves.

Eventually this might fracture into separate networks with limited overlaps, especially if it gets a lot bigger and more mainstream social media users start posting here. There’s nothing wrong with that, but we just need to be honest about what we can control.
