I like the idea of getting better 1% everyday, but it often feels like the entropy of my environment has a faster rate of decay

What tools or systems do you use to help improve your productivity?

- obsidian + habit tracker

- focus on a few set goals

- accept that progress isn't linear ...

- re-assess and tweak once a month

🔥🫡

You use obsidian?

This was the first time hearing about it, but I did download it and will be using it going forward.

My notes app is a scrambled mess, and I’ve been using Telegram at a place to store notes and ideas, and it’s not hard to imagine how bad that is.

Just downloaded obsidian; never used it before

Might need to watch a video on it to become more proficient

What do you use for habit tracking and how has that benefited you?

There is a plugin called habit tracker for obsidian. Not every goal is daily but you click the box on each day and it makes an entry with that days date.

You can query those entries with another plugin called dataview for charts etc.

Would just start with some simple journaling

Jogging 3x a week with no phone or music on you.

Forced meditation.

I normally feel compelled to listen to an audiobook or podcast when running or working out

I justify this in my mind as “multitasking” because I’m learning while exercising

But I dedicate no other time to meditation so perhaps I should reconsider

Times that I am alone with my thoughts (commuting to work, etc.), I often get stuck in the same loops of thinking; not sure of the best ways to avoid that other than learning more

Absolutely! Also, get your lightning set up hon I tried to zap you but couldn't

Ask my friends to hold me accountable. Having people you can trust to have your best interests and development in mind helps with accepting their feedback and overcoming entropy

My wife is great for these reasons

I have friends that I can lean on and are there for me when I need help

But I feel that I lack mentors that I can learn from who set an example that I aspire to

This forces me to study and practice on my own, which is great, but slow and prone to error

if you can keep a journaling practice pretty much everything else falls into place

This is something I have never done before

How should I start?

it gets a lot of hate because the author is a bit of an idiot, but daily stoic is a very good tool for this

This book?

yup; it's more of a tool, not much to it, but having a physical thing to draw you back in is very useful, it's more like having a physical calendar than a book

Just bought it, thanks for the recommendation

Will report back when hyper-productivity sets in 🫡

This is the way.

Exercise, sarcasm, reading, and prayer.

What a combo!

I should read more

I’ll listen to podcast and audiobooks often, but I think something else happens when you physically read a book 📖

Don’t knock podcasts - amazing tool for onboarding content while driving, walking, working out, etc…

1. Obsidian

2. Pen and paper

And in a very incoherent way where i switch between the two. But habit tracker for physical body related things definitely on obsidian cause i need to refer to the numbers/data later on. But its just so much more natural for me to take notes in a book with a pen.

You’re the 2nd person to recommend obsidian so now I’m definitely intrigued

I see a few people mentioning obsidian. Is it linked into Nostr? I am curious about it. We seem to have similar processes!

I always have pen and paper/sticky notes nearby. That way when I have a thought I can immediately jot it down. This leads to tables covered in sticky notes of borderline lunatic ravings but it's a vibe and works better for me than to-do lists alone. Once a week when I clean up I dump all of the notes into scrivner to see if I can harvest any bits of wisdom or inspiration into future writing.

It's not efficient, but I find as long as I'm accepting of that inherent efficiency I am much more productive because I am remaining inspired. Also sometimes I just lean into being unproductive. Rest days are essential and I rest super hard so that I'm not guilting myself over them.
