Your ability to change yourself is limited.

We've been fed lies about how we can be or do anything we desire. Not only does this set us up for a life of disappointment, but it's making claims about our internal state that just aren't true.

Yes, there are people that have had dramatic changes both internally and externally. But that's much more the exception and not the rule. Most people have a limited range of change.

But because of this dumb pop psych belief, most people go for drastic changes and fail.

We need to be a lot more humble about change. That lets us be a lot more thankful when we improve instead of depressed when we aren't perfect.

As they say "Stay humble and stack sats"

Small incremental positive changes everyday are way more sustainable than big major changes all at once.

I think it is possible for everyone, but no one talks about the effort and time you have to invest. It’s not a project for a few weeks or months it’s a quest of a lifetime!

But what makes a person the exception? In my experience it's often that the majority don't have the persistence, desire and commitment to see through change. Most people don't understand that big change doesn't happen overnight, that it takes time, months, if not years to bring about that change. For the majority, often, there is a desire for a quick fix, instant gratification and if there is no result in a short time then it's just too hard. πŸ’―

I could be wrong, but as someone who has inconsistently worked hard on my mindset for over ten years, I do believe if people really do want change, assuming they can create the habits, persistence and commitment to achieve it, they can make change. In saying this, they still may not be whatever they desire to be, but maybe something closer than they imagined possible. πŸ¦‹βœ¨

I strongly believe that Henry Ford was right in saying β€œThose who believe they can do something and those who believe they can’t are both right.”

I agree, it’s all about believe and persistence.

Though in current era of quick and easy rewards most of us have lost both, believe and persistence.

Yes to this πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Wrong. Don’t listen to Jimmy. You can achieve anything if you are focused and work hard enough.

With God, everything is possible

If I have to choose between two worlds - One where people are told that they can achieve anything if the set their minds to it and don't give up vs the one where people are told to not even try, because it usually doesn't work out.

Well, I want the former.

The best way to get the understanding and humility about some goals being hard to reach is by trying ourselves, not by being told so.

The only way I was able to undergo lasting radical change was by fervently praying to Christ. After 20 years of trying via my own efforts, I admitted failure and prayed constantly to #Christ. In 6 months the Holy spirit accomplished what I couldn't in two decades. I'm now a believer. Grateful beyond words. Sometimes truth lies where we least expect it.

Im not sure I agree 100%. I think its more about persistence and knowing how to change.

Its true people have a limit to change due to external factors (money, intelligence etc) but the reality is we aren't taught how to hack change.

So I think your take is limiting to be honest.

People can certainly make vast changes. The rituals of Marine Corps boot camp are great example of a large change taken on by thousands. Walking through the Hiroshima Piece Memorial museum also causes deep change on every soul that enters. FIAT propaganda has changed entire countries in to slave states.

Change is the only thing constant in our lives. The that you are hitting on, is the fact that people don’t consciously realize their ability to control their change, change others, or be changed.

The thing that*

Part of being realistic is being humble and living with gratitude. Thanks Jimmy! πŸ™

Best take. πŸ‘

Exceptions do NOT make the rule
