Ya know what I find really weird about quoting. Is you don't get notified when someone quotes. I think that's super lame.
The quote note client could easily tag the OP but it doesn't, is this just a Twitter fallout bullshit thing? Like, better to Not let the OP know you quoted them?

Also quotes are not counted as "repost", so if even with 10 different quotes, the counter of 🔄 on that note is 0
Great point! They should counted as reposts, especially due to how small nostr is… need higher stat counts on posts to draw more normies in.

Disagree. You can inline quote a different thread as part of your thread in nostr. Making that reply part of two separate threads is wonky.
wonky? it would stand as its own post and form a new reply on the quoted post with both sharing the same if any child thread
reason, i often want to quote a post with the same reply, i also see many quotes that get lost because they are not attached to the original thread and quotes are near always in the form of a reply, ie they address the quoted post
with nostrs customizablity it would be easy to toggle this etc

Yes, the quote should notify the person as discussed by OP but unless it's taking the thread in a different tangent then it makes more sense to reply then just repost the reply.
Thread merging is bad when there isn't a moderator deciding what does and doesn't get merged. I can see the value within a reddit style corner of nostr where a moderator merges two threads about some specitic dungeonsynth song for example, but not in general. What if I start merging your threads into threads with a completely different topic just to fuck with you? Remember you can't block me here, only mute me meaning that if that functionality exists it can be used to garble every conversation.
so its just a display option, client querys for any quotes related to a post and displays them as a primary reply
your client can still do it your way, notes stay the same, nothing for you changes, where as i progress and try something new, maybe you try and like it? have you never thought something was no good until after you tried it and changed?
we have moderation on nostr, do you think we wont? if you abuse thread merges i will maybe ignore your merge flags or maybe i whitelist and never used them? again people are free to use it or not

If you quote post a thread now it doesn't merge the thread. Anyone reading the original thread doesn't see any of the posts from the quote thread right now. If you wanted to you could inline quote posts from another thread but aside from that being time consuming if you abused it people could mute you and not see any of those posts. If there is an actual merge functionality those posts would all look like someone elses posts rather than yours so muting you wouldn't have an effect.
With this merge flag how would this work? You put in a merge request and the OPs of the threads you want to merge have to approve it or are you saying that if I don't approve I don't see the merged threads, but they still merge?
