There still seems to be no serious recognition that a million of these things are the most powerful military tool imaginable.

Even 50 SONAR miniguns lining the deck unloading at full tilt wouldn’t save an aircraft carrier from a swarm of these.

The economics of war have changed dramatically without it having been seen in practice. But the ability for a small country to punch well above their weight has certainly changed.

The US shouldn’t build a single more ship that isn’t just meant to carry a bajillion of these 😆

The ability to mass surveil at low cost has also gone way up

🙄😬😬

We are not in Kansas anymore Dorothy.

5th Gen warfare is already upon us, and will be nothing like the world has ever seen before.

We are not in Kansas anymore 🤣🤣🤣🤣✅🤣✅🤣✅✅💯💯💯🎯🎯

Have you read kill decision by Daniel Suarez.?

Swarms of drones that look like insects, sting like scorpions, unrelenting. Sounds biblical…

Been saying this since the start of the Ukraine war.

Drones and the technology behind them has made obsolete 11 battle and aircraft carrier groups costing upwards of $50 billion EACH including all support vessels and destroyers (one Ford class carrier cost upwards of $15 billion with $1 billion/year in operating expenses).

What's really amazing is the cost of ordnance on these carriers is many times the cost of a drone. So even if the drones don't take out every ship they will drive the country OWNING the aircraft carrier group into bankruptcy.

It's only a matter of time with US aggression and expose around the world before someone launches enough drones that it just overwhelms the carrier group.

Hard to take out an aircraft carrier with that small of an explosive

What about 1,000 of them?

Yes it would interfere with aircraft operations for sure.

But you’re really not gonna sink it or put it out of commission entirely.

The threat of drones is real, but these tiny drones don’t have much range or payload capacity for any explosive that would do serious damage. It would mostly interfere with deck operations.

Overwhelm the carrier with drones and then hit it with a hypersonic. No defensive tech today can stop that one two punch.

Recruitment numbers for the Navy plummeted after this comment

Have you seen the short film "Slaughterbots" by ALTER on YouTube?

At the time it was still speculation that it would be possible, seems like it could be pretty real now, and yeah not just human targets.

Thats wild to think about.

you should read kill decision by suarez

On my to-read list.

Did you read Daemon and Freedom?

love those as well, suarez is great in general

I can confirm, no recognition. The brass knows because they see what's happened in Ukraine but they've got cognitive dissonance. Anything heavy will have a motor that produces a heat signature any $600 drone with a thermal camera and trained AI algorithm will recognize in seconds. Combined arms breaching ops...get real, it will be a replay of whistles and sending the boys over the top of the trench.

The current state of the art systems fail every test against even small swarm drone attacks.

Imagine them getting even better and using AI. The wars will be on another level. We've seen it in many science fiction movies. In most cases there is a mothership that. runs the others, but I think they can work decentralized.

Forgive me Guy for asking Perplexity to counter this opinion. This piqued my interest as someone who know next to nothing about drones or drone defenses. 😉

The opinion that a million light-show drones could easily overwhelm and sink a warship like an aircraft carrier overlooks several critical technical and operational realities:

1. Drone Range and Endurance

Light-show drones are designed for short, coordinated flights and have limited battery life and range, typically suitable only for entertainment purposes, not long-range military operations

2. Payload and Ammunition

These drones are built to be lightweight and cannot carry significant payloads, let alone explosives or anti-ship munitions. Even military loitering munitions showcased in Vietnam are designed to target infantry or light vehicles, not heavily armored warships

3. Effectiveness Against Warships

Modern warships, especially aircraft carriers, are heavily armored and compartmentalized. Sinking one requires large, high-explosive warheads or torpedoes, far beyond what small drones can deliver. A million drones with negligible payloads would not physically damage the armored hull or critical systems.

4. Ship Defenses

Warships are equipped with advanced air defense systems, including rapid-fire guns, missiles, and electronic warfare tools that can detect, jam, or destroy incoming drones

. Even if drones were weaponized, these defenses are designed to counter large numbers of threats simultaneously.

5. Logistics and Control

Coordinating a million drones in a hostile, contested environment is a massive technical challenge. Communication jamming, electronic warfare, and the need for precise control would make such a swarm nearly impossible to manage in real combat

6. Economics and Practicality

Light-show drones are not cheap, and scaling up to a million would be logistically and financially prohibitive

. Military drones capable of carrying meaningful payloads are even more expensive and complex.

In summary, while drone swarms are changing warfare, the leap from a light show to sinking a warship is not supported by current technology, drone capabilities, or military reality.

Some next level whataboutism 🤣

Imagine thinking anyone is reading all that.

The war has always been on you. Now they dont even need to draft and send you off to die. You just die from shitting your pants LOL

We have to start working on self defense for these things

A great example of what happens when innovation is allowed, instead of being regulated from day one like in Europe… #Mica

Anyone that thinks regulations are real the ultimate sheep.

Search for "Otrok Vyacheslav" and you know what happend next. 👀

He talked about this with his mother in 1984.

Considering a small drone operation just obliterated like 70% of Russia’s bomber fleet… it seems like everyone is about to wake up to this all at once.

Will be interesting to see what is/can be done about it. Might be a better tactic, but I feel small,

Intercept drones are the best short term option.

The videos published though suggest that there was literally no defense or preparations made against a short range drone attack.

And China is way ahead of us in drone tech

Sometimes I just say random shit on the internet also.

Seems like a bunch of people are flying their own drones in all this as well, or maybe automatically link theirs with the mothership. Anyway it’s pretty amazing to watch. It’s gonna get even more difficult to pick out real UFO’s with this tech around.

Despite being a communist country, Vietnam’s actually a pretty free place, as no one really follows the rules, they just get on with things

Many are celebrating this in the West not realising that in places like Diego Garcia there are strategic bombers in the open. .

Note that a container ship is most likely sitting a few miles off shore waiting to do the exact same thing to US bombers.

Now, imagine a response from the US if their strategic bombers (even the decommissioned ones) were hit?

So what's stopping Russia right now?

We're yet to see.

You think those Israeli drones used and battle tested on Gaza on civilians is not coming to a got city near you, well, think again!

Palantir et Al. Will be then end of civil liberties.

Lots of people are saying.

In fact where do you think Ukraine learned how to put drones in containers and launch them? From China and Iran.

Bezos?

Or they could stop oppressing the world and everyone could calm the fuck down.

Read Kill Decision if you really want to share yourself about Drones (big and small)!

More concerning to me is not our warships, but that these can be made as kamikazes that dive bomb and attack people directly with grenades or targeted single bullets.

Yeah, a stick of dynamite weighs like half a pound.

From NYT's A Thousand Snipers In The Sky:

"Drones now kill more soldiers and destroy more armored vehicles in Ukraine than all traditional weapons of war combined, including sniper rifles, tanks, howitzers and mortars, Ukrainian commanders and officials say."

"Speeding cars or trucks no longer provide protection from faster-flying drones.

Soldiers hike for miles, ducking into cover, through drone-infested territory too dangerous for jeeps, armored personnel carriers or tanks.

Soldiers say it has become strangely personal, as buzzing robots hunt specific cars or even individual soldiers."

“You can hide from artillery, but drones are a different kind of nightmare.”

"Ukrainian officials said they had made more than one million first-person-view, or FPV, drones in 2024. Russia claims it can churn out 4,000 every day. Both countries say they are still scaling up production, with each aiming to make three to four million drones in 2025."

I suspect the US will have a big ‘oh shit’ moment in the next decade or so, where we lose a bunch of big, expensive, obsolete equipment - and all the poor souls manning it - in an incident.

Sadly, it’ll be used to gin up a war in response, remove freedoms, and ruin more lives.

Stack Sats. Stay Sovereign.

Yeah, well, those don't cost a bajillion trillion of USD so, not gonna hapen. The MIC, has to make their money.
