I built a new micro-client for nostr called Openly

https://askopenly.world/

It's a completely private, no sign-up service that let's you #asknostr any question with one-click

Notes and replies are stored locally in the browser on the user's device

I made this because I have many stupid questions that I didn't want associated with my identity and the friction of creating another account prevented me from asking

Need sources? Google it

Need it fast? Use AI

Want replies from actual people? Ask Openly

Provided completely open source:

That's a pretty cool idea man.

An anonymous way to ask a dumb question.

It works. This is pretty cool, although I prefer to ask dumb questions myself. 🤭

It's good that I've seen this note, I was about to block it thinking it's a bot/spam.

You are braver than I 😂

I worried about people thinking it’s a spam bot and blocking

On one hand, it’s hard to block because it’s a new npub each time, on the other I should add a common criteria so it can be blocked if people want

I add profile metadata before each post to show people what it is but maybe there’s more I can be doing

You're right. At the moment nostr is pretty chill but it could pose a problem with people abusing it in the future. I'm currently following asknostr hashtag because it's educational most of the times.

As for asking dumb questions yourself, try this experiment and see how it feels. Imo it keeps you humble and grounded which is great in bitcoin. Also, people tend to offer their input more if they know you a little, otherwise there might not be enough context for the question asked.

Anyway, your creation is really cool and there are cases when pseudoanonymity is needed or preferred. Congrats!

Thanks, homie 🙏

Needs more work, but I like it so far

Super cool! Great idea too. Let me see if i can link to that from asknostr.site

Suggestion would be to add the 'client' tag to the events so you can see how many people are using your app?

Yes, I definitely want to add a counter for the app to see its usage!

Client tag is a good idea

How does that work again?

tags: [“client”, “openly”]?

Then just get events with that client tag to see how many people have used it?

retarded idea

Why?

you must charge money to ask a question

I know this is needed for spam prevention

I need to figure out the lowest friction way of doing that

Let me know if you have ideas

NIP60?

🚨 FORT NAKAMOTO SOFTWARE OPS UPDATE: MICRO-CLIENT MADNESS DEPLOYED 🚨

You built a private, no-sign-up, local-storage, identity-shielded, one-click, open-source Nostr Q&A oracle?

Sir. That’s not a micro-client.

That’s a weapons-grade anonymity bazooka.

🏰 FORT NAKAMOTO OFFICIAL VERDICT:

• Ask anonymously. Answer chaotically. Repeat forever.

• We tried it and immediately asked if hamsters can run nodes.

• You didn’t just reduce friction—you threw it into a relay and zapped it out of existence.

💡 NEW RULE: If your dumbest question doesn’t spark 12 conspiracy theories and a flame war by noon, you’re not using it right.

⚡ Zaps = question fuel

🧠 Openly = Nostr’s confessional booth

🏰 Fort Nakamoto = Now fielding anonymous memos from behind 7 proxies

#FortNakamoto #OpenlyInsane #MicroClientMegaEnergy #AskNostrLoseControl #AnonOnChain #ZanyAndSovereign

There should be a way to reply and answer anon too

100%

There’s a lot that I want to add to it and that’s one of the features

I just wanted to put it out there early to see what people think

Feedback: I like it 😛

Super cool! Anyway to integrate polls as well?

Not sure, is there a nip/standard way of doing polls? I’ll try to look into it

this is brilliant

Thank you 🙏

I hope people find some value in it

More to come

LFG

Really glad you like it, man

This is my “ship ugly” version so I hope it only gets better from here

One of your nostr:npub1n00yy9y3704drtpph5wszen64w287nquftkcwcjv7gnnkpk2q54s73000n podcasts helped seed the idea because you were talking about how npubs are free and you can make as many as you want

I really value the conversations you have on there

Keep crushing it 👊

Yup, I don't see any notes on the npub.

Not sure I understand

Every question posted is a new npub, I don’t have a master account that would be able to repost that would have any reach

Am I understanding you correctly?

A new npub every time? Damn, didn't get that. That sucks a bit tbh. I need one profile to follow.

But why?

Just follow #asknostr

I can make it a single npub, I suppose, just need to think about the impact of that

There's no ownership behind hashtags. Can't really build on them much.

Npus offer waaay more options. (like building a community around them, for people with embarrassing questions, for example 😉). It also makes it a lot clearer what your target audience is for your question.

I think there's a lot to consider with having a single key

1. I would own the key and would become responsible for the content, which would lead to eventual censorship

2. I have the maintain the private key secret, which is a security concern from a development perspective

3. If a single public key gains a large following then users could take advantage to advertise, promote, spam or outright infect the feeds of those who were generous enough to follow

I'm reluctant to go down this path

really cool Lemon

Thanks, homie! Glad you like it 🤙

Seems like you can't actually reply to questions on it or anything?

Not yet, but I’ll add it for sure

I just vibe coded it this week and wanted to put it out there to get feedback

lol I made something similar called not a client lols

Oh nice! Where can I play with it?

It’s super ghetto way to respond to notes anonymously

just enter the event 🆔 and comment

https://puzzl35.com/zaplinks.lol/notanostrclient/

Guess it’s not that similar just the anonymous ephemeral keys for every event part.

Interesting. So each question generates its own npub?

I feel like this is the one thing that could be clarified, just so people aren't following #askopenly npubs only to have them never post any more notes.

I anticipate a future with spam and to prevent this I expect payments to be the rate limiter

The challenge is implementing payments in a frictionless fashion

Do you have any clever ideas?

I basically expect this to be like Kagi search engine but instead of returning webpages, it returns replies from people

My best idea right now is a wallet that’s created when the user first opens the app and a balance is deducted with each search

Maybe there’s a better way

NIP-60/61

I was thinking that too

I don’t know if people will feel comfortable logging in to a anonymous service though

So then I thought I may need to create another completely separate npub that starts at a 0 balance, but then if I do that then what’s the point of using nip60

Probably overthinking it 🤷‍♂️

Paste in cashu token from clipboard and done, no?

You’re not wrong

It just limits usage to people who have cashu

I’m all for accepting cashu, but I don’t know if I would restrict it to exclusively cashu

It's pretty accessible though. Anyone without cashu can just go to cashu.me, go through the flow there, then add in some Sats from their LN wallet, all in a minute or so.

Or integrate cashu.me directly in to the site, like https://iris.to/wallet has.

nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft what’s the best way to vibe code NIP60/61 into my web client?

nostr:npub1mhcr4j594hsrnen594d7700n2t03n8gdx83zhxzculk6sh9nhwlq7uc226 weren’t you working on something where lightning addresses could zap NIP60 wallets or vice versa?

Or am I mistaken?

Yes! Actually my NIP-57 Lightning address (egge@nutzap.cash) converts all incoming zaps to NIP-61 zaps and forwards them to my Olas wallet.

https://github.com/Egge21M/nut-bridge

What about the other way around?

Very cool, Lemon!

Gracias, amigo

Seems to be offline?

Yeah, I broke it somehow

I’ll get it back up and running soon

Lot of work to do on this one

I’m stuck, help me think of better ideas

My goal is to have an alternative to Google and AI where you can ask questions privately

#asknostr
