Sats is the standard. This is a terrible idea.
It actually makes things more confusing and destroys several sayings within the community. It's an attack on our language and a deterrent to newcomers.
No more 21 million Bitcoin.
No more Stacking Sats.
No more Wholecoiners.
I think it's too late. Resistance against the Bitcoin/Sats denomination is futile.

So essentially, 1 sat will become 1 #Bitcoin in this proposal.
But, you can also propose a BIP that increases the divisibility of a coin (for example, the smallest unit is a millisat). So are we going to change of the definition of what 1 BTC is then?
This is all just semantics because of people's inherent unit bias. I think this BIP is pointless.
This is how it should have been from the beginning. I think its too late now.
Somebody wrote a comment that said “I love and hate this idea.”
-Sums it up well.
🧡👊🏻🍻
I think this dude needs to eat cheese and chill out
Maybe students should learn decimal places. Shoot two birds with one stone
No, just because some new people don't try hard enough to understand it doesn't mean it needs to be changed.
+1
Hard NO!!!
It makes sense and would remove unit bias but the momentum is too much to change at this point. Stay humble stack sats.
„I’m not convinced this is the right direction. Bitcoin’s current system with decimal places allows for precise transactions and maintains the flexibility needed for different use cases. Removing decimals could create confusion, especially for those who are accustomed to the current structure. Bitcoin’s strength lies in its divisibility, and this proposal seems like a step backward.”
it's quite simple. devs are already taxed for time and asking them to revamp their UI and docs and everything else is just completely asinine. not to mention all the content creators and educators.

We already have sats. There’s no reason to further confuse the normies by doing an imaginary “stock split” and changing a sat into a bitcoin

Unless things are absolutely necessary, I would not fiddle with the current system……….
Let the system grow, it has done well so far!
I know changes are coming down the pipeline, but we shouldn’t do it now.
He’s thinking too hard about the wrong things. He can call it whatever he wants
> He’s thinking too hard about the wrong things.
😂👌
Imo it makes sense but I think we lost that train, normies with bitcoin in exchanges would be confused, I think that kind of thing must emerge naturally in the social layer, people will probably create informal designations for certain sat ammounts, probably even different in each country, a kind of slang for some common amounts.
This proposal has merit but may be too late given rapidly increasing awareness and use of sats nomenclature. There is also a long and engrained tradition of different words used to designate different denominations of a currency - dollars & cents or pounds & pence.
It should be relatively easy for newcomers to understand bitcoin & sats and at least be aware that they are backed by the power of Bitcoin even if they don’t want to learn much about “what’s under the hood.”
I’d stick with the momentum of the current sats narrative.
what makes sats the smallest divisible unit? If we keep going, isn't it likely we'll have to divide into even smaller units?
Makes more sense to me to let the word "sats" become more commonplace, which will likely happen naturally.
This feels too based in the present and may lead to the illusion of inflation should the smallest indivisible unit someday be divided. Under this BIP, the value of a #bitcoin would be forced to change again when the smallest unit changes, essentially leading to
1. A series of 10^i "stock splits" from the perspective of #bitcoin as unit of account
2. A future BIP to amend this BIP
I get the "wholecoin bias" that nocoiners often get caught up in, but a top-down unit nomenclature change feels confusing and not in the spirit of Satoshi's vision. Not to mention the "menu cost" and potential bugs & confusion of every wallet, exchange, etc updating to align with this BIP.
In short: Let the masses decide #nostr
I think it is too late.
Plus it is nice to have the name of the network and the name of the unit being moved on that network NOT the same name sometimes.
I like sats. I also think it is too late to change names.
Sounds confusing to me!!
when sats require decimal places, will we change the name again?
I think it's too late. It would confuse a lot of people who are still new to Bitcoin. I think it's best to keep it the way it is until such time that 1 Bitcoin needs to equal more than 100 million sats when more divisibility is warranted, and we're a long way from that.
Agreed. Too late. And pointless anyway. It’s fine the way it is and there’s no functional benefit to the change. There’s no issue with decimalizing the units.
If "#Bitcoin needs me" was a person. 🫠
Let’s not forget that sats mean satoshis. We are all satoshis. Satoshis the standard.
I mean, I get where he’s heading with his proposal and I DO think that many zeros at the beginning of their stack may be confusing or at least hard to grasp how much Bitcoin they own.
Still, it is probably too late and too early at the same time. I could imagine that if Bitcoin hits the moon and stays there… then it would fuel this discussion a lot!
I can already see the infinite pizza headlines.
it could be a future proof BIP, but imagine how many apps have to adapt to it
