Nostr: rebuilding the web, starting with social media.

When i was at FOSDEM at our booth, it hit me that is was in no way whatshowever clear what on earth "Nostr" is. People walking past just saw 'Nostr' a bunch of purple and some cartoon ostriches.

And if they somehow showed some interest, its was not always straightforward to get the point across in a single sentence (it was a lot easier in this context, given that the people there were opensource developers).

So i thought...this thing needs a banner that communicates the point. So i came up with the above.

What would be your banner suggestion to both inform and entice the unknowing people wandering past?

For the nerds, client relay architecture and keys as identity. Those two points and they'll basically get it.

For everyone else, "own your identity" and "censorship resistance" and the truth is it is the most censorship resistant protocol out there, for anything.

Because the web already exists. Most 'usecases' already exist in a platform form etc. And all of it needs to be redone in a Nostr way.

So that; and otherwise it is not clear something fundamentally different is going on.

I like it. A lot of slogans oversell & have ended up harming more than helping. This does not. I'd maybe consider dressing up the wording a little, but keep the spirit. Something like 'Rebuilding social media, reshaping the web". I don't know, just a thought.

I'm in favor of the video where there's an ostrich going around asking "hey do you like bitcoin? Have you heard of nostr? ⚡zap⚡" as the slogan.

Well, the idea behind the wording as it is, is to from the get go frame is as 'Not a social media thing', but appearently 'innitialy a social media thing'.

Frankly on FOSDEM a banner with "Death to all APIs - Nostr" would probably be best.
