An 80 year old family friend called me for financial advice because her kids wouldn't "help her buy crypto"

I'm advising her to buy $100 of Bitcoin on nostr:nprofile1qqsrtv3u6qkj6a09tnhr3l0wy67g9uw3t57ftqyqpvztpk3wmd6306spp3mhxue69uhkyunz9e5k7qg4waehxw309ajkgetw9ehx7um5wghxcctwvsueqn9x, giving her nostr:nprofile1qqsxc56ajk5xtxerf4dqspgrfa0s5elrcr80lnz9nasldq87j3zzf0cc5h4hk's The Big Print and telling her that after she reads it I'm happy to help

What would you do?

Commandable. I haven't read the big print. But I've given similar advice but put out Lynn Alden's Broken Money.

She’s 80 Ben just show her how to buy the corn

People having a good experience with Bitcoin upon my recommendation is something I take super seriously.

You put your reputation on the line when you give financial advice.

Told her to go check out river and that I would help, but need her to put in some work for us to get anywhere anyway

Zapsnag dawg cumaaaawwwwwn

I’m going to buy another copy and keep it in my car for opportunities like this

Send her $5 via River to her email which will let her open her new account with something already in it

The idea is sound/thoughtful but I am not so sure this holds the same value as them doing some initial steps on their own first.

Keep plugging away!

My dad called me up 2 days ago to ask if now was a good time to buy bitcoin, he had his bank account closed for some bogus reason, and the new bank offers bitcoin saving plans. I told him everyday is a good day to buy bitcoin, and right now it’s on sale.

Let's go. Great timing

I think The Bitcoin Standard would be a good book to read. Once people have made a bitcoin transaction, there is no going back.

Yes but more for libertarian minded people

The big print is better than the Bitcoin Standard for most normies. but Broken Money is my go-to recommendation nowadays! 🚂

Glad that she’s come to the Jedi Master

That's my goal with wearing Bitcoin on my sleeve. Just want to be the one they come to when they get curious

I’m working on my subtle mentions in every day conversations. The curious will come.

Get her a lightning address so we can bomb her with Zaps

Nice 👍🏻

But 95% chance she won’t read the book 🤔🫣

Cash app is probably the easiest for a situation like that.

That's a pretty good call

Sounds like you just got written into the will.

Personally, I'd just have them buy gold since they are 80. I love the sweet corn, but at that age, it's a lot to handle. Gold will treat them well and give them a piece of the action.

They asked me specifically how to do it so I feel like if I don't help them someone who will steer them into crypto will.

Plus I gave her a book by someone who is a gold bug too

If you DM an address, I’ll mail her my book.

River vets everyone who applies using some intrusive KYC database "security" service, and they will deny you an account if you have ever engaged in political wrongthink or gotten on the wrong side of the regime in Washington.

Perfect advice! ₿

Broken Money is my current go to. Layered Money is decent too and a lot shorter depending on your audience. 80yr old is a special use case - you did well

It's tough to get people to read anything.

Why put her in the KYC trap? Just sell her some P2P. If she wants more, sell her more or help her buy P2P from others.

I don't think I'm going to get to a point of teaching her about coin control any time soon.

No need for coin control if she understands the concept of KYC and NoKYC. Usually older folks get it even faster as most of them have dealt with opressive regimes.

River is good advice because it seems like they are good at hand holding.

You nailed it. nostr:nprofile1qqsrtv3u6qkj6a09tnhr3l0wy67g9uw3t57ftqyqpvztpk3wmd6306spp3mhxue69uhkyunz9e5k7qg4waehxw309ajkgetw9ehx7um5wghxcctwvsueqn9x is the best.

Absolutely. Happy River customer.

Halfway through ‘The Big Print’. Thank you for all the work you did writing it!

Im hearing they are holding funds from a friend.

I’ve given away several copies of Lawrenece’s book— and other books for other people. It’s relatable and also they should seek out Larry and others online if they’re interested and able.

It’s a good relatable play.

Nice work!

Thank you

thats a great approach...bravo!

My approach has become “once you’ve read the bitcoin standard I’ll give you all of my time you need”

Thank you for sending her our way Ben 🤝

Y'all do great work 🫡

Saavy family friend!
