This, I think, is confounding 2 issues. E-bikes help reduce local emissions (exhaust) which is good and true, but do nothing for the electric grid emissions as this demonstrates. Worse than the pollution, I cannot wrap my mind around a motorized bicycle. Can they not see everyone is basically a different level of fat. Maybe peddling the damn thing would do some good.

Too many times in my life I've been bedazzled by battery-powered BS like gadgets or tools with Nickel-Cadmium batteries which would develop memory if not fully discharged, or battery-powered tools that required hours of charging to do minutes (or in some cases, seconds) of work. So I have to be careful to not believe the hype.

OTOH, I just watched a mechanic detail how he had to remove a gajillion different parts from an engine before he could replace the vehicle's timing chain. Every month I have to check at least four different fluid levels on five different vehicles in addition to drive belts, so there's that.

In my unique case, an ebike would be feasible since it takes longer to defrost my windows than it takes to drive to work, but I have no desire to become a hood ornament for a vehicle whose driver can't keep their dickbeaters off their phone.

I think there's probably a lot of FUD and malice on both sides of the debate. It's also a valid concern that a transition to EVs would be exploited by the control freaks to decide when/where we get to travel.
