If you're following along, on my #weightloss journey, I've managed to get at least 7 hours of sleep and go for a walk, the past couple of days, and it's been heavenly. I'm automatically eating less and drinking more water, so win-win.

My next simple, minor change is:

FDH (friss die HΓ€lfte), which is to just use salad plates and forks, and dessert bowls and spoons, instead of normal-sized (read: "absolutely humungous") tableware, when I set my place for dinner.

(Carnivore diet recommendations will be ignored.)

This is probably the biggest weightloss winner, as you automatically eat less, even if you tend to fill up your plate, twice.

Refilling your plate is a psychological, not a physiological act, so if you make the plate smaller, you keep filling it up twice, but you end up eating less.

Bizarre and illogical, but true. Try it and see. Nobody does a third plate.

Nobody?

*looks at his rotundity*

Really?

🀣🀣🀣

But yes. That's something that's kind of easy to do for most people.

πŸ˜‚ I never do a third plate.πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

If the plates are smaller, I pack them higher. So, it leaves the visual impression of it being more food than it is because the plate is overflowing. But if you place the food on a larger plate, the plate isn't full. Large plates can hold incredible amounts of food.

she doesn't make it to the states often, does she? XD

Last time we were in the States, we only ordered appetizers at restaurants, or we shared a meal.

many of the locals aren't always so... restrained lol

They've done studies on this: the "endless bowl of soup" (people eat less if they have to actually eat bowl one then bowl two) or M&Ms either in a large bowl or in small individual packets (eat all you want with either, people eat less with individual packets).

Works even better, if you serve the food from the kitchen, so that they have to get up and walk across the room, to get another portion.

Using laziness to lose weight. πŸ’ͺ🏻

yeah, it's the wonders of the cubic function, double the diameter is 8x the volume

Yeah, people don't realize that plates work in three dimensions, as you can both fill them wider _and_ pile them higher, the larger the diameter.

without training in mathematics and physics people naively think that volume is linear same as distance. it is not.

and what's worse than what you pointed out about how plate sizes kept on growing over the last 5 decades, is the food they put on it has become increasingly higher starch, and higher in omega 6 and oodles of traces of petrochemical solvents and unnatural, toxic chemicals, non-food stuff like xanthan gum and guar gum (literal glues), and then add GMO alien proteins into the mix.

it's not at all any wonder that americans have ballooned and got sicker. it's the food, stupid.

Yeah, I start to eat like that, when I work too much and get lazy about cooking. Instead of a cupful of noodles with a steak and roasted veggies and shaved pecorino, it just turns into a gigantic plate full of noodles with a bit of pesto.

Less filling, less delicious, therefore triple the calories. πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ

i was so pleased when i discovered the day before yesterday that the nearby supermarket actually sells beef... and lamb... you'd be surprised how satisfying proper beef and lamb are, both of them really good for giving you good fat calories and protein to keep the brain and muscles humming. i also found i can get better quality eggs finally too. soft egg yolks are really good for boosting hormone levels. at our age this becomes really important.

i think also, in chinese medicine they say that older people should have diets higher in protein and fat than you can get away with when you are younger. though the chinese are averse to cheeses. i personally think white cheeses are really good, as is yogurt.

I love beef and lamb. Mmmmm...

the Lord did not like Cain's vegan burnt offering, and Cain got very butthurt so much so that he killed his brother in the field. Isaac's blessing was given for Jacob's goat. the moral of the story is that only satanists think that veganism is cool.

My suggestion is always to get a dog that refuse to let you rest till she gets a minimum of an hour walk each day. It’s a game changer πŸ˜…

Glad to hear your sleep is improving. A rock solid sleep schedule does wonders for the mind and body. πŸŒ€

I'm only 5'4"/163cm and I have a desk job, but I was eating off of 11"/28cm plates and have switched to 8"/21cm plates.

You can see the massive difference here:

out of curiosity, what do you have against carnivore?

Portion control is a super power. I innately have portion control. My mom who was overweight used to comment on the small amount of food on my plate, insinuating that I had an eating disorder, πŸ™„ but it was portion control. I always know exactly how much food I’ll need to feel full. If I eat at a restaurant I always eat half the plate and eat the leftovers the next day. Implementing portion control is imperative for long term weight loss. Make a fist, that’s relatively how big your stomach is and that’s the amount of chewed up food that’s supposed to fit. Getting real is also a great way to lose weight. Many people emotionally eat. Get real to heal the emotional wounds and you’ll find yourself surrendering to the emotional pulls to eat. Good luck on your journey!

🀣🫑carnivore recommendations will be ignored?

Yeah, I have total respect for my carnivore πŸ– and vegan πŸ₯• frens, but they're both out of the question for me. I'm not that desperate, yet. πŸ˜‚

That said, I know diabetecs who swear by it, so I won't knock it.

My bonus tip is to use side plates rather than full plates when I make a proper breakfast. Fools you into thinking that there isn’t enough on the plate.

I went plate shopping, today. πŸ˜‚

Bought just one dessert plate and one dessert bowl, and I'm going to reward myself with another setting for every 10 lbs lost.

I was going to do every 5 lbs, but then I looked at the price tag and was like, nah, 10 lbs.

That stuff looks so cool though

Glazed earthenware from V&B. I can confirm that it's a joy to eat off of it.
