you'll own nothing and you'll be happy

Lmao. This is why no one should feel guilty about using Pirate Bay.
So, you ‘bought’ it and now being removed due to licensing?? That sounds like bs..
Wow, do you get a refund?
So in reality nothing was bought, cause one never actually owns shit any more
this is why physical media and torrent backup sharing are essential and will never go away. streaming is one thing, but i refuse to license the music and movies i buy. drm is a shitcoin. break it. resist
wow. self-host your data or be rugged forever.
💯 hate it's not open source but #plex has a bit more going for it than jellyfin rn imo. lifetime member here 🤙🏻
I use jellyfin personally. What steers you to plex ?
i prefer jellyfin but i use plex more. yes it's getting bloated with audio (i don't use) and streaming, free tv etc (i do like). so basically, it comes dow. to plex ux, clients (inc apple tv) and compatibility makes it easier to share my server with friends and family and it gives them the benefits of my plex pass.
i agree with techhut who has a great experienced analysis of the two

💯- plus we are now in the age where the books and movies you purchased can be altered after the fact to suit whatever the Current Thing demands.
What’s really sad is Xbox is removing the last optical drive this year, and PlayStation is expected to follow suit.
oh noooo. source?
PlayStation is still speculative, Xbox was confirmed through court documents.

thx. not cool. hopefully we'll get a detachable optical drive. either way, so glad i didn't wait
Be interesting to see how they would work that with the disc drm. 🤔
how so? i assume just like any other drm enabled dvd/bluray etc. the xbox software decodes it and attaches the "ownership" license to your account.
here's a good article
Idk how it is now. Back in the day the drives used to require custom firmware in order to read the game.
gotcha. yeah, they'd make it so that wouldn't be an issue, just an extra cost. can't wait to see the hardware mods unlocking the series x system and games. got my ps3 modded to play ripped and burned dv-r games when it came out in taiwan. i miss it
💯 valorant did that thing where they required win 11 tpm 2.0 and secure boot to be enabled which was basically hardware drm. we need more open hardware...and games too damn it
Time to burn DVD for every console owner.
How is this legal, even in their world?
“You did read the EULA before clicking ‘Accept’ didn’t you?”
I assume that would be the answer.
this is depressing, yet i expect nothing less
You think it would say in there that a purchase does not actually mean you own anything?
Yea the whole situation is so ridiculous it’s laughable. You’d have to be a lawyer to understand these agreements and they’re so long nobody in their right mind is going to bother reading them or complying with them.
Yep. Same shit with restricted ebooks, if the platform goes down or kicks you out you paid for something you can no longer access. Own the unrestricted file, or own a physical print.
DRM is a shitcoin.
This is why people resort to pirating and purchasing physical media of what they like. Burn this DRM legacy licensing/fee system to the ground. Absolutely absurd for 2023.
This is one of the many long things sony does to fuck you over. I have been a victim as well to sony's bullshit changes & quoting policies when a fault happnd on their end. Dealing with sony customer support is like going into battle.
The video game industry has changed for the worse & every game is designed to be a struggle from the beginning to the end. I wish I had the money to get a new pc & game on there. Old games w mods way better.
I hate sony for all the bs they do.
I had a running joke of owning every media version of Total Recall - vhs, dvd, Blu-ray, laser disc, apple iTunes. I’m sure apple will restrict access to the movie at some point and I’ll have to pay another $19.99 to be able to stream the 8k version.
PlayStation is a shitcoin
And people looked at me weird when I bought a TON of movies and shows at Best Buy before they stop carrying them on Jan 1……
no surprise, but still: lol 🤡
Not your files, not your movies.
and tanks for all the fish..
And this is why I use a IPTV provider 🏴☠
Torrents fix this.
This and MakeMKV is why I still buy physical media. It does not have to be all of it, just the good ones.
and no refund? They just take what you bought?
Wow, another example of legal robbery! It's like taxes. These people should sue. What if Google Books or Amazon Prime or Kindle or Audible or YouTube told you this regarding content you had "purchased" from them?
