Feels like Nostr is a black swan that the entire tech sector was not expecting. Walled garden platforms are going to be a thing of the past by the end of the decade.

blackswan that 3 letter agencies weren’t expecting either!

Billion dollar valuation tech unicorn “disrupters” are about to get a harsh lesson about the definition of disruption.
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
🎯 - and so are the venture funds and LP’s and general investors funding an antiquated model of control.
I’m here and poking around but I still don’t fully get how this is different. I can feel the momentum and the electricity in the air, but I’m not technical and don’t fully comprehend what I’m participating in. It’s not unlike Bitcoin for me in that way…I’ve invested thousands of hours in podcasts and books on the subject. I understand it enough to know I want to be early, but despite my best efforts the tech is beyond me.
Stay at it and engage....ask questions and learn from others. Many clients are still very early in development so still not as polished/easy as centralized platforms. Some of the things that seem hard today, will become simple over time as the entire ecosystem builds.
Is there a client that you’ve found works best for you? I’m working with Damus. It’s functional, but curious if there’s something working better for people.
It seems #[6] is recommended for iOS by #[7]
For desktop, Iris and Snort are both fab. Amethyst for Android, which I can't seem to get to work without exposing my private key, but there are a bunch of others too.
I aslo have these all on my phone too to experiment with... Iris, Nostrgram, Nostr.rocks, Nostros, Arc.
My preferred are the ones above.
Use Nos 2x or Alby to keep private key of the client.
🎯
This thing is going to explode onto the social media landscape.
Action/reaction is a fundamental law of the universe. We all saw the horrors of centralized tech during the covid years. That era is done and they brought it upon themselves.
Inshallah
You mean tech didn’t *actually* think decentralized communications/social was possible??
Nostr + Bitcoin + AI is going to create completely new experiences and business models.
Way sooner than that.

I think you mean purple ostrich 😉
Information always follows freedom.
💯….the market disrupter that has the ability to touch every market. ⚡️💜⚡️
“I don't believe we shall ever have good social media again before we take the thing out of the hands of government, that is, we can't take them violently out of the hands of government, all we can do is by some sly roundabout way introduce something that they can't stop.”
-Friedrich Hayek, on nostr
Web3 utterly rekt
🤙
I hope its different this time, but they said the same thing about the matrix protocol & federation in general
#plebchain 💪
Yes but have you heard of this altnostr with Turing completeness?
The rent seeking days are over...
Bullish on instant payments for access to specific focused knowledge
Bitcoin- Lightning- Nostr have defined disintermediation.
Spot on Marty!
Decentralized unstoppable human connections.
will get exciting when independent journalists discover nostr

THe .gov wanted me to pay income tax on a $600 ebay sale of two microphones I had bought 8 years ago on Ebay for $900.
Crazy idiots. Can't wait for Nostr Bay.
Unpopular opinion: Nostr's social media takeover is far from certain. The chances that it will only develop into a niche platform are greater than it taking over all of social media like some influencers are claiming (because it's the cool thing to say?) #[1]
It either is disruptive (which I believe) then it’s success is inevitable.
Or it isn’t.
Honestly I don’t care if normies and sinfluencers see any value in it at all. Fewer shitvertizing won’t hurt either because of a more limited audience. As Satoshee said many years ago, he was afraid of too rapid adoption bringing unintended consequences. I’m happy to see the monumental rise of #nostr taper off a bit. Most people don’t understand freedom of speech anyway - and certainly don’t value it. Let those people stay where they are, in their pod.
I totally agree.
It's disruptive for the group that most benefits from it (people that want to speak their mind without censorship). That's awesome of course but normies usually just care about convenience, pop culture and want heavy moderation. They won't all of the sudden embrace a platform where everyone can say anything after being protected by moderation from big tech. Especially if nostr will be smeared by MSM.
huh, interesting 🤔
to see your opinion fully - can you define the reasons for it to become more a niche platform?
bc all i can see in nostr socials now are numerous possibilities for future expansion and growth (like how decentralisation and inability to ban will bring people here from government-regulated socials, and how relays probably are going to be more sphere/topic oriented and that’ll create more bubble-ish spaces - exactly how audiences love it)
Normies usually go for convencience, heavy moderation and where pop culture leads them. Nostrs big selling point is freedom of speech, privacy and decentralization. Normies mostly don't care about that. Especially lefties want censorship. Mainstream media also shunnes platforms with no moderation. Just because we love nostr and see the potential doesn't mean everyone else will.
You can of course say fuck em we don't want those people here anyway. But then you have to accept that nostr won't overtake the big centralized social media sites.
oh, i see!
i do think that we need “normies” here tho 😤
as a person living in a dictatorship, i can tell how even the most uninterested generic public get tired of government-controlled socials, tries to avoid using them and seeking for alternatives.
with time more and more people realise that – it happens when person’s point of view suddenly becomes not-welcomed in those curated socials. and the stricter government acts, the quicker the transition to uncontrolled socials wilhappen.
now, to all the things people will miss and want from not-controlled socials: those are headaches for creators of nostr clients and apps – they should care of how to make it more intuitive, easy to use, quick and secure and etc.
i have mentioned how people would stay on their theme-related relays – this is how i see censorship issue resolved – because it’ll be the relay problem to manage the notes and decide which one should and which one shouldn’t be posted.
but i liked your statement of “mainstream media avoid platforms with no moderation” - not because i think nostr needs to be promoted, but because it can made it – well – a reputation 🥴
Absolutely. I admit I still might have too much of a western view where opinions aren't as surpressed like they are in some countries. Free speech platforms gain in importance for normies the more it is surpressed because the need arises. In countries like yours I could see nostr become a big tool for people to communicate. Just not for the Western world unless they start censoring so much that even normies would notice.
nah, your opinion is also valid, since we haven’t such a precedent yet! that’s still up to debate if – or then – western communities will also arise
but i still have big hopes – because actually in nature the famous boiling flog situation doesn’t happen
Your post is getting a lot of shares.

It will be glorious
Turns out freely sharing ideas is pretty awesome.

💯
Why so bearish?
I think you mentioned, there’s already a bounty out to develop a decentralized GitHub…and I found myself thinking just this morning about how decentralized networks will likely spread to many other specialized areas, esp science and medicine, also education. Areas that are highly information-sharing intensive, but subject to capture by monied interests.
Hell, it sounds like even LinkedIn is censoring people.
Imagine if cancer research could thrive on a global platform not curated & controlled by interests who generate a ton of revenue from cancer treatment?
Surely, nostr is a CIA black ops endeavour!
Found you )
How? The suggestion to follow doesnt even exist. I had to copy your keys from twitter and post it here
It’s almost as if the government stepped in and tried to compartmentalize social media. Stuff us all into nice bubbles. While they benefit from globalization of resources. We are stuck in thought bubbles geared to make us buy things and never challenge the narrative by way of us not seeing it. (So they hoped). Walls have never worked throughout history. Why would we think it’s different today? Seems Foxes running the hen houses.
I wanted to zap you for this a couple of days ago but i didn't know how. So here it is now i've put in the work!
The only thing holding Nostr back is Bitcoin adoption. Nostr is exclusively for Bitcoiners.
