I received a Coinbase scam email earlier today and honestly it's the best one I've ever seen. Hats off to you, and fuck you, to those scammers. They're going to steal millions with this.

It's all legitimate sounding, and I honestly believed it at first, until I read the part where they gave me 12 seed words to use in my self custody Coinbase Wallet 😂

Help your friends and family. If they use Coinbase, reach out to them and let them know that it's a scam. (And help them withdraw to a real wallet that they own.)

Just posted about this too boss

It’s getting crazy out there.

It is. In years past scams would always have typos or not the best grammar or not the best English, this sounds legit.

Yea they did very well. Many will fall for it for sure. Even the fonted contact info in blue below the written statement looks looks legit.

They always have to put the ACT quickly stuff there too to make sure they get you.

Interesting choice of deadline date. April fools.

Yes 😂

Never act quickly when moving funds

Google Wallet to Google Pay to GPay... was something many already went through.

Why would a boomer who uses google think this isn't legit??

Be wary out there

I like that their deadline is April 1st.

Icing on the cake.

The scammers now have access to AI so they don't have to worry about their bad English.

Email needs a massive upgrade. We need to implement my idea that when someone sends an email, the sender of the email is required to pay 2 satoshi.

1 Satoshi goes to the receiver of the email and the other 1 Satoshi goes to the email company.

This will allow the email company to make money and the receiver of the email making money too.

It would completely destroy scammers and spam as sending mass emails would be too expensive.

Free services like free email are a dying thing. Bitcoin micro-payments allows us to clean up the internet from scammers.

You are soo right. Others, like me have thought this too. But you can specified it well with the 2 sats idea and where the sats needs to go.

Implementation (my contribution):

1. Email is just an application on top of bitcoin. On top of lightning. Layer 3.

2. Email needs to be decentralized. Built on nostr or pear runtime (pears.com)

3. We need to sell the “new email” and its benefits to people.

4. Maybe change the way we think about email completely: a nostr dm is an email. But it needs to be able to contain attachements.

🏰 FORT NAKAMOTO DISPATCH 🏰

🚨 SCAM ALERT: THE FIAT PARASITES ARE GETTING SMARTER 🚨

Derek Ross nearly got hit with a Coinbase phishing attempt so convincing that even seasoned Bitcoiners would do a double-take.

🔎 HOW TO SPOT THE SCAM:

🚩 “Here’s your seed phrase, just type it in!” – That’s not how self-custody works, pleb.

🚩 Any email claiming “urgent account action” that leads to a sketchy link.

🚩 Messages that use official branding but pressure you into quick decisions.

💡 FORT NAKAMOTO OFFICIAL SECURITY POLICY:

✅ Never trust, always verify. Legitimate companies don’t email you a seed phrase.

✅ Use hardware wallets. If your funds are on an exchange, they aren’t your funds.

✅ Educate your normie friends. They’re the primary targets, and we don’t need more “I got rugged” stories.

📡 MISSION OBJECTIVE:

🚀 Warn your circle, secure your sats, and remember: the most dangerous scams are the ones that feel real.

I got about 6 emails from BlockFi yesterday. I have no idea if I have any money there or not. That was years ago. But when the emails come in and tell you to do something within 24 hours (like these did), huge red flag.

Why are you using coinbase bro??

I'm not any longer? I created an account there in 2014.

Deadline ... April 1st

🤣😂

Any recommendations on real wallet? I'm still custodial. Worried about my ability to keep keys secure and possible hardware failure. Also concerned about ability to easily/safely trade when I need to. There are scary stories for self custody too.

BitKey sounds like it's up your alley.

Thanks

I was just thinking that if I was to scam crypto holders via email, I would send them a bunch of really bad looking emails with spelling errors et cetera for a couple of weeks. They will be conditioned and accustomed to low quality scam and think they're sharp and smart. Then I'd send them a perfect looking email like this so they react with an "Oh this is no scam, it's the real stuff" 😈

Hey i got this too! I only read up to the part about unregistered securities, scrolled up and checked the header, saw it came from akamai and thought "hmm, clever", before clicking delete.

Yep! Mine had the same header too.

I laughed when I saw a payment confirmation from paypal.

1. It had my email

2. Nice letter head and all

3. It told me I sent money to Coinbase

4. But it also told me how much BTC I was buying... ERM why?

5. It was in dollars.

6. It presented a phone number to call to cancel the transaction...

I could see people getting scammed by this one.

Give us the seed phrase, so we can mess them 🤣

Have fun.

1. almost 2. track 3. melody 4. intact 5. target 6. multiply 7. sentence 8. fire 9. giggle 10. toy 11. topple 12. time

Got the same today, I surely hope no new comers have actually followed the instructions and got their wallet emptied.

My bullshit detector stopped reading after they mentioned a recovery phrase.

Path forward: self/collabrotive custody + dogs + guns
