Fighting with my kids to wear a coat when it's negative 14 degrees outside should not be a thing. Wear a fucking coat! Be warm. Be happy.
Discussion
Dad, coats are sooo not cool
Apparently not. They left wearing coats though. After some love and yelling 🥹
Hey, I’m cool and I’m wearing electric heated socks 😂
And the cycle of life repeats 🤣
It's hilarious how that happens.
My sons would wear slip on canvas vans with no socks in a foot of snow. They would just walk in the tire tracks.
My son ends to wear Crocs with no socks sometimes and I'm all like dude...what the fuck?
I usually describe what happens when they don’t do something - in graphic but scientifically accurate detail. Works every time.
wear warmer clothes!

Bro. People play hockey in shorts and no shirts here. Your kids got that maple syrup blood.
Is this where "we all have to learn" enters the room? Not that I want your kids to get sick but.. you know.
At this point they won't learn until they get frost bite.
Ahh the childhood days when we all thought we were invincible lol
How is your back feeling today?
Much better thanks! Been doing stretching exercises to help and the pain killer/anti-inflammatory meds and the heating pad my sister-in-law brought me were a game changer.
Good to hear old man! I took the day off cause I'm walking like a 90 year old who forgot his walking cane at home.
Try these stretches, bro. They should help a little
P.S. I hope you get feeling better nostr:npub1de6l09erjl9r990q7n9ql0rwh8x8n059ht7a267n0q3qe28wua8q20q0sd 🫂
It's definitely a thing with kids and coats. Maybe they feel warmer than we imagine they are.
They definitely are cold, but since it's only 10 minutes they don't care.
💯same thing but here feels like -18
My teenager every day. 🤦♂️🙄
Orrrrrr you could let them generate their own heat inside of them instead of insulating them with a Patagonia. I lost my ability to heat myself bc my mom always made me wear a jacket. These days I’m trying to build my internal heater back up these days. 😆 embrace the cold
Is this an actual thing? I've never heard of that before.
Yes, you can accidentally turn your children into reptiles by making them wear clothes. Children should be naked and exposed until the age of 14 as in the ways of the Spartan Agoge until they can make their first clothes from the wolf they kill with a primitive spear.
It’s a theory I’m working on. Ppl do cold exposure therapy so they already believe cold does good for the body. But too much of anything is bad- if it’s waiting 10 minutes for the school bus, I might be ok with it. Extended adventures outside may require “protection” (jacket) lol.
I feel this...

🥶🥶
I have to remind the oldest to wear gloves every morning. And we’re literally at the coldest part of winter
I feel like such an old man complaining but this should be common sense. Especially after the conversations from yesterday 🤣
Yesterday when we went to get sushi I said it's 11 degrees outside and with wind chill it will be much colder. We have to walk 2 or 3 blocks to get to the restaurant so dress warm. I didn't pay attention to what they had on. We drove there and they don't have coats or anything. My daughter is dying walking the rest of the way there. So, I gave her my coat. My son asked what he gets. I said you get to be a man and live with your mistakes 🤣
No coats is crazy in the winter 🤣
Asking what he gets when he didnt bring a coat in the winter is even crazier
that was my morning today too, but then I remember my 6th grade year when i wore shorts every day, 365 days, except when skiing. We had two weeks at -27° and I was ridiculous in basketball shorts, parka and winter boots, but kids move a lot 🤷
That's some dedication.
It’s a thing
I don't get it! I swear I always wore a coat. I loved my 90s Starter jacket. It was cool. I wanted to wear it to be cool. Charlotte Hornets baby!
I would wear whatever I was told, I think I was afraid to deal with the consequences. The kids that refuse are the ones that still have agency
sounds like your kids are wim hof approved🤣
I say let them roam free. Let nature teach its lessons
OMG same issue here! One refused to put a coat on and wore a sweatshirt
I've not verified this but I have heard that children through teens can handle cold temps in ways that adults cannot. Something changes physiologically post-puberty, maybe. Someone can fact check me on this.
Anecdote: During winters in my early high school years I would often wear shorts and flip flops to school. I waited outside my house for the bus on numerous occassions, and our neighbors thought my parents were nuts for letting me do that. It was cold, but not awful.
I would struggle more now if I tried that.
Note: I dont know that I ever waited outside in -14 in shorts and flip flops. That may have been a bit much even for my adolescent self. 🥶
I let my boy FAFO. He doesn’t last long, went out today in boots and a diaper. Didn’t make it off the deck
Coats aren't cool, man! Teenagers in our city definitely have an aversion to winter coats. Drive by the high school at -20C and people are standing outside in hoodies and sometimes shirts. To be fair, kids are able to handle cold better than adults. Acclimation also makes a big difference. I try to keep on the cooler side during the fall and early winter and it helps prep the body for colder temps.
Once you're cold, you can get into trouble really quick. Having the option to step into a warm building is something city dwellers take for granted, it gets them into trouble outside of the city. Also, it doesn't take much to get moderate frost bite and that damage can stay with you your whole life.
lol I can def relate to this. My toddler doesn't want to wear gloves outside despite freezing temperatures, yet also gets upset when her hands freeze.
Good lord, it's the opposite here, I had to convince the kids today not to wear an extra jacket at a sunny 61°F. 😄
😂😂
Send him to fetch the mail or do some other quick outside chore. He'll put the coat on when he gets back.
