Some of you have noticed our homepage now requires a nostr login to use the free uploader.

NO! You do not have to buy an account, you just have to hit the NIP07 button and use a key extension to authenticate.

YES, we still offer free media uploading, but only to Nostr users! Non nostr users were abusing the free upload page and this was the best way to restrict it..

As a reminder: Free porn uploads are not permitted, CSAM will be immediately reported to the proper authorities, you can not use the API for non-nostr projects and high volume uploads!

Many of us have used it ever since it first came out a long time ago. IIRC nostr:npub137c5pd8gmhhe0njtsgwjgunc5xjr2vmzvglkgqs5sjeh972gqqxqjak37w was the one that updated it to work with iOS 18.

I can’t claim it to be 💯 trustworthy due to how the keys are stored (and that is applicable to many nip07 extensions), but it works and I use it. Also, you can just create an account and don’t pay an invoice, verifying using the DM. And most of the clients support Nostr.build out of the box so webpage uploads are not required at all. It is only in rare cases where you’d need to upload using the webpage.

This is the problem with offering free services. Minority will abuse the system.

A small fee will keep the website clean from spammers, bots & abusers.

We are getting close to where almost all websites will require a small fee just to use the service. In order for this to happen we need to keep pushing Bitcoin adoption to the point where almost everyone will have access the Bitcoin lightning network.

I always require a small fee to use my services and it completely defeated spam and abusers.

Of course this will not work with the fiat system. Small transactions are only able with the Bitcoin lightning network.

The internet will be cleaned up soon.

Creat an account and don’t pay an invoice, that’s all. Once you have an account webpage uploads will work. I still need to implement a better way to prevent spam while allowing legitimate users to use webpage without hassle

Amethyst users can simply select nostrbuild as their nip96 media server and upload directly from client.

Yes. This doesn’t affect any of the app integrations, only the front page uploads.

I agree. NIP07 / key extensions are common for all nostr apps, but even those are complicated for normies..

We will work on the UI to make it more user friendly…
