I ran a cleanup script before deleting just to make damn sure i was clear of it. Worked well.
Was the script a public repo? If so, would be interested in this if you happen to remember the link
Just checked, it was a tamperMonkey script, or grease monkey. I can't find exactly what it was but it deleted all friends, all posts, images, tags and whatever else you could do with Facebook in 2013. It's been a while. Sorry I couldn't find it but maybe you'll have better luck

I'm happy to say, "I just skipped Facebook." To be honest, I never understood it...the interface never made sense to me so I never did anything with it. The funny thing was that my wife (who uses it on occasion) tried to friend me, but me not understanding what was going on, I either denied her friend request or accepted then unfriended her. I don't even know. (But she knows and reminds me on occasion!) 😄

The like minded from my generation, early millenials and late gen x, avoided facebook all together. We saw the problem at myspace. My entire highschool friend group does no social. I got sucked in while studying bitcoin. Its really not been helpful. Im out from twitter but hanging with nostr due to the freedom aspect.
It's hard for me to delete Facebook when I have never created an account to begin with.

Been 8 years for me. I did end up making a empty account just for marketplace. Unfortunately it's mostly replaced Craig's list
More than a decade ago I deleted Facebook and Instagram (anything belonging to Facebook) then Facebook bought Whatsapp I had to delete it too, it was hard in the begining but I'm glad I went through and now all my frequent contacts use better apps except one guy, which is doing email and SMS only.
I also stop using Gmail and use Protonmail for a long time too (always paid in Bitcoin).
Now I stopped using Twitter and should consider delete all my account as well, just lazy to do it but as I never connect anyway I'm not in a hurry.
Same here, I managed to get all my friends and family to install Signal for group chats and direct messages. I told them they could reach me on Signal if they wanted to stay in touch and they did. Probably most of them still have WhatsApp installed ..

I think my grandma literally thought it meant I was no longer using computers. Which was ultra confusing cause it's what I do for a living 😂

I wish I could, but my mom doesn't know how to use her phone and messenger is my only way to call her.

I lost a large group of friends because I wouldn’t use Facebook. Probably better this way
How can you loose friends for not using an app? Call them to chat and then invite them for a BBQ, or what ever you like to do with these friends. If you don't like to do anything with them or they have no time for you, then you can say that you loose these friends.
It’s was over time and you are correct. They choose to only respond on Facebook so I guess they weren’t the best of friends. More of a breakdown in communication which led to the loss of friendship.
Deleted my FB in 2016. Totally DON’T miss it at all.
People used to look at you weird, like you were a freak for not being on Facebook. Then it became a trend and people left in large numbers. What was once fringe, became norm.

Remember "poking"? Glad I quit it too over a decade ago. I could sense there was an unpleasant behavioral change in my friends due to it. I didn't want that for myself.

I did it in 2020. Same, best decision ever.
Got rid of social media, then just recently got back to Twitter… deleted it and came not #NOSTR 😂 I think I’ll stay here
