Yep, you were receiving way too much data for a phone to handle :)

Question? Is global view usable anymore? I stopped going to that view on Damus…

Set up your global to only show paid relays and it works pretty ok.

Damus doesn’t have the same individual relay settings as Amethyst. There is a read on/off toggle coming in next update.

If you’re interested in getting your global stream back without all the spam checkout our filter relay readme: https://filter.nostr.wine

Wow. Good to know. Let me check out.

Is it normal to have something downloading on my phone en-ko. zip everytime I use amethyst?

Yep, translation package.

You need a close the auto-translation. Click auto translate link under the post text. You can't stop all translations because don't have this feature (Close all auto-translations) on amethyst.

Or just add an English keyboard in the phone's system language, which is the right way to do it. You also get better autocompletion in the language you are writing.

Please allow users to override auto translation settings within the app.

I've asked the thing several times. It would be great if there was only one setting for this.

Wait, how many times are you disabling translations today? I don't expect users to disable more than one or two languages.

Your confusion stems from the belief that you know what users want. The assumption that they want auto translation can be often incorrect. It is worse to rely upon system settings to guess their intent, especially if they can't override it in exactly the way they want.

Why ? I do not trust the success of the translations. Wouldn't it be better to have a twitter-like translate button instead of auto-translate?

Please understand that #[3] has done a good job and this is a great app. But this situation regarding auto translations is unfortunate. The user must have the ability to override translation settings. Guessing what the user wants from the system settings will often not be correct.

Ok, but you can override today. I don't get it. The default is just how most people will use it. But you can always disable if you don't like it.

Within the app? I'm not talking about system settings or keyboard.

Yep. It has been there for about 2 weeks now.

I apologize I somehow haven't seen this yet.

What about for a post that isn't auto translated but you want to translate it?

I am waiting for the need to translate a disabled language to become a real request. Right now everyone (3 ppl) that asked for it, asked because they think it's needed for others as opposed to actually experiencing a context where that's a need for their own experience.

This is exactly the experience I use frequently on Twitter. I can read and write basic Japanese but I'm not good at it so I like that the UI gives you the option to request it.

For all languages or just Japanese?

For Asian languages I prefer the behavior of no auto translation but to have the button to feed a particular post into the translator. I'm not alone in this.

For Spanish I'd like the opposite. Auto translate is OK but I want the button to flip it so I maybe I can learn a word.

One of the reasons for this usage preference is because Asian language auto translation is often far worse than for European languages.

If the note isn't translated it currently lacks UI to request translation. This is a common situation where users don't want auto translation because they are learning a language but they want the translate option for situations when they don't understand.

Interesting take that may be neglected 😉

The other problem with this current UI is it gives you the option only to Never or Always. What if the user wants to switch translation on and off in-situ? That is a common use case. Currently if they hit Never, perhaps by accident or because they wanted to view it temporarily without translation it they can't turn it back on?

The other reason for needing in-situ controls for translation is because auto translation guesses the source language wrong.

It feels like you have not used the interface yet. People can go back and forth on the language inn situ.

I'm using 0.16.2. I'm seeing auto-translated messages where the only options are Never and Always. If you select Never the options to change it disappear entirely. How do you switch it on and off in-situ?

Just click the language you want.

Looks like the translation breaks some external links... 🥺

Yep smart ass google translates urls .. 🫤😅

I imagine many would want a fourth option: Show both original and translation.

Probably should be a way for other nostr users to contribute transactions too. Maybe for a small fee (though I'm not sure how to implement that securely).
