How hard has it been? What is the most noticeable difference?
Waaaay easier than expected.
I'm very used to intermittent fasting, eating only 1-2x a day, so the first 24 hours are not hard for me. 36 hours I hit some pretty good rumbles, but some good salt (a big pinch) in a glass of water knocks that out.
48 hours things got weird. I was not physically hungry, but I was dealing with mental habits of eating.
72 hours I noticed a sweet taste in my mouth very likely a sign a pretty deep ketosis.
Coming up to 96 hours my smell sharpened considerably. I could smell things 2x the distance away than normal. It's nutty.
Keys to make it as easy as possible:
Light movement. Walking helps a ton. Stretching is also good, but you need to do it for an extended period of time. 45 minutes minimum at least once a day. This greatly helps prevent much muscle wasting and actually helps quash hunger pangs.
I don't know how doing a more strenuous workout would feel.
Salt your water when you feel physical hunger.
Keep busy to distract your mind from obsessing over food. Or, alternatively, simply observe how your body and mind react to not eating. Eating /cookingtakeup time and energy that you now have for other things. Your focus and sharpness of attention are heightened. Use this to think (or pray if you are so inclined).
Very cool. I want t to try it. Ive only fasted 2 days at most. Good on you.
Over 72 hours is where things really start to take effect.
I think I will do this at least quarterly, barring any other contraindications.
So far, I think it is challenging in good ways and anyone who is not on tons of pills should probably try it at least once.
Oh! The social thing is the hardest part.
I had to not eat salmon tonight... (I'm salivating thinking about it and I could just go smash a fillet right now, but I won't. I'll finish this out strong! Tomorrow for dinner, I'll be grilling a t-bone or ribeye. 🤤)
So that's hard for a lot of people to deal with. This block of time worked for me since I could avoid "having" to eat with other people.
I need to water fast as I have tooth inflammation
Which not enabled me to swallow any food. Not bad down 2 kg in first day .
Get some movement in to prevent muscle wasting!
Nice! I just completed three months of 16/8 intermittent, now I'm back to regular eating cycle to bulk up a bit then in a couple of months I'll go back to the intermittent. I'm thinking of throwing in a 36hr fast also, all going well, a few months after that perhaps I'll try a three day fast.
I've done mostly 18/6 for nearly 5 years now. Often times it was OMAD.
I'm fat, still, but I just felt better not rating brekky.
powerful
Why?
That's another very for question.
I have been struggling with two parts of the same problem for a while:
1. Spending too much on convenience food at work, and
2. Some of that food is terrible and I know I shouldn't be eating it.
I have a fairly bad relationship with food. I'm totally addicted and an emotional eater. This is something I need to stop, and soon, before I literally eat myself to a very awful death.
Knowing this, I decided to be humble and ask God for help with this, and the few days after that prayer, every podcast I listened to mentioned fasting and prayer. Every. Single. One. And NONE of them were on that topic at all. So I took the hint.
Originally, I was only going to do a four day fast, since it was convenient as I was working a block of closing shifts this week and that honestly made it easier to avoid familial social pressure to eat dinner with the family. But, as I was contemplating the fast and considering how I wanted to break it, I had decided that I wanted to break it with a ginormous fatty grilled steak. Originally, this was to be a brunch this morning, but then, at the prompting of the Holy Spirit, it occurred to me that I should feast with my family. I'll buy steaks for everyone (my first task of the day) and cook dinner and share a meal with great joy and gladness!
Cool! I am not into region but they made good points in health by instituting fasting periods and restricting some things from believers diet's. But at least for me, after a perior like that without eating, I would start very slow. I feel a lot of what I would eat would come out barfin... Thanks for the reply. Hope you achieve your goals 💪
No adverse reaction at all. 😁
Electrolytes
Yes, though literally good salt ( cheaper than the currently end vogue electrolytes) will do the trick.
Good for you!
What are you doing for the (nearly only) part?
Magnesium complex, iodine (Lugol's in water), creatine monohydrate, vitamin C, and nicotine (via dermal patch).
