Make sure people can write into your "inbox" relays, people. For both, private and public inboxes.

If you add relays that require payment from other people to send messages to you, you are going to miss a lot of DMs, zaps and likes.

If users need to understand and configure any of this, we will never grow imo

If they don't know this, they are never going to be free. Our goal is to educate people so that they can take control over their data. Otherwise, they can just stay on Twitter because it's going to be the same thing.

Shouldn't it be a step by step revolution?

When you learn to write, you learn the letters first, then to write them together.

Maybe we need phases. Not to expect too much at the beginning.

build what you wanna see, Vitor! the beauty of nostr there is a number of other clients with less freedom if they want or need to start there before taking responsibility of their experience and data πŸ€™

And how do I check for this? I just added some relays, one of which had an admission fee, but I don't want to limit any interaction, I want to maximise it.

Is it the "restricted writes" part or something else?

Imagine paying for a relay and not being able to read replies and DMs from it.

Generally speaking when you pay for a relay, you are paying they to store your messages, not the messages that were sent to you by strangers.

where is your education regarding the use of the ecosystem, since the ecosystem is very difficult for everyone to use. you want everyone to be in control of their lives. so you are pretending to educate people with an iq of 80, who can barely install even an app on their phone. so you want intelligent people to be in control of their lives???????clarify your ideas.

Well, this particular tip is written on the screen. But anyone can write educational content to help others figure Nostr out. We do our best in the app, but it's never going to be enough.

My question is very simple: where is your education about the ecosystem?

I'm an developer, not an educator. Developers are generally terrible educators.

o if you are like that you can simplify the ecosystem and there would be no need for you to waste your time to communicate the education about the ecosystem.

Your attitude is really disrespectful, girl.

Nostr developers are an absolute treasure that barely get paid for their work and here you are, complaining about them.

I'm just asking him to educate me. ok I'll send him some hearts to make me look friendlier ❀️❀️❀️

I am happy to answer questions if you have any about this relay topic.

Well I did have a question, as stated below, how or where exactly do I check whether or not I have such relays?

nostr:nevent1qqsy5j3h7u2wgvkn55wdmlfcth97axwgdg402ynpxmyqyjc7k8zy8zcpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqzyqvysvf420fhlextmzad944uvgmkzhtnljjxfmdj686r2kgqeaz0vqcyqqqqqqgay2q0l

So that information is sent by the relay itself, but it is usually incorrect. Your best chance is to talk to he relay operator running the service to understand which types of posts he/she accept from which accounts (paid, unpaid).

Ah, there's no way to check this myself perse? Ok, I will check with all my non-default relay operators in that case. Thanks!

I am an Apple iPhone user, the process is more complicated. currently nostr.io is not functional. Lightning wallet connection doesn't appear as an option for me. Do I have to subscribe in the app?

Which client do you use? Lightning wallet connection support is dependent on what that client is doing. Usually you don't have to subscribe to use these things.

Damus. I also tried it on mac from primal.net. which client

do you recommend? is the problem in the apple operating system? mac recognized bitcoin core as insecure software.

Yeah, I think Damus doesn't have that option anymore because of Apple but I havent used it in once a year so I don't know the current state. Maybe nostr:npub1zafcms4xya5ap9zr7xxr0jlrtrattwlesytn2s42030lzu0dwlzqpd26k5 can help. Primal seems to still have it if you use their wallet. Primal has an iOS app. You can also try Nostur from nostr:npub1n0sturny6w9zn2wwexju3m6asu7zh7jnv2jt2kx6tlmfhs7thq0qnflahe or Nos from nostr:npub1wmr34t36fy03m8hvgl96zl3znndyzyaqhwmwdtshwmtkg03fetaqhjg240's team.

Also --settings---appearance can you remove Jack's post and replace it with something else?

You should ask them. I don't actually know what this is about. :(

Thank you for your time and sorry…. I didn't mean to bother you, and I'm not thinking of having an lighting wallet, simply because I'm not very interested in this at the moment. I just wanted to let you know that this ecosystem looks complicated in the eyes of people. and not everyone has the opportunity to be its user. the difficulty in use would bring obstacles to the concept of decentralization. the number of users is very important to fight centralized systems. I think this is important

So did they? Turn it off & on again? πŸ˜‚

No, I'm not doing helpdesk again...

Some of us would like to avoid the murder charge. πŸ˜‚

true story

I'm waiting for you to educate me. ❀️

thanks for the info πŸ˜ƒ

The inbox thing has me extra confused. Can I use any free relay, or does it have to be a paid service?

Where's a good source for a pleb to read on these things? Is it all just buried in NIPs and definitions of note kinds?

The specific relay types are new territory for me. I'm probably somewhat typical in thinking I've accomplished something by running a private relay on nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll but that one is mostly useless for all this.

They don't need to be paid. The inbox is where you receive posts from other people. Public inbox is for replies, zaps, likes, etc to your posts. Private Inbox is for your DMs.

You want everybody to be able to download replies to your message, so your Public relay choice should allow that.

You don't want other users downloading your DMs, so your relay choice for the private inbox should also support that.

But you can put public relays in the Private inbox if you don't mind other people seeing the encrypted DMs going to you.

Thanks, that helps. Another question, how have I been getting DMs all this time? I never used a special inbox relay before.

We use the General Relays as fall back. The messages are just scattered to all of them if you don't have an inbox list setup.

Ah, got it. Thanks for the help. It's really hard to find this info out there in the wild through web searches, etc. I've found a little on relays in general, but nothing on all the types and how they work with different kinds of notes. Your descriptions are the best I've seen so far.

Yeah, this is all very new and many of them have yet to classify themselves into any of these categories.

Why is this important? An example:

Npubs you somehow interact with *might* use your inbox relays to reply to you, to make sure you get the message on a relay you can read from and not posting replies in the void.

NostrDVM framework for example now integrates the outbox model. Clients like Amethyst check for a DVMs inbox relays and sends a NIP90 request, e.g. to generate a feed, directly to these relays.

The DVM receives the request, does some magic and checks for the user's inbox relays to deliver the reply to relays the user then again can read from and the client shows the result.

If your inbox relays use paid services for which the DVM is not registered for, the relay will reject the response event and you won't get a reply.

You want others to be able to write to your inbox relays, and you can't assume others have a subscription on any relay you might pay for.

Same goes for private inbox relays with DMs.

I hope this helps understanding what kind of relays you should put in inbox relays.

You can build stuff to make it work but youre still asking users to set up and maintain their own relays.

Nostr DMs are an antipattern. Nostr is the public square. Tons left to build there.
