can’t think of a more rewarding thing to work on: tools that improve human freedom and flourishing. Why aren’t more people working in this space?

the people on legacy don't realise they're captured

Lots of people don't know how to contribute. Hopefully nostr shitposts help just a little bit.

The ones we need will come...

Imo...

-Freedom hasn't been that popular lately

-convenience is easier

-Chssong money or trying to survive

yes there is this mindset of building silos to capture users so that the creator can enrich themselves via monopolies. Protocol mindset is completely different.

It's tough to rally people around something intangible when financial survival often takes priority. The challenge lies in creating tools that not only enhance freedom but also demonstrate a tangible return—whether that's financial, time-saving, or community-building. A better world is the vision, but incentives drive action in today’s reality. Maybe the key is finding ways to align purpose with profitability?

its very unsustainable for most ppl, I know more than a few who left bitcoin space cuz their lives just required bigger and more steadier income

There’s a lot of money in the world, weird almost none of it is deployed to build freedom tools

Or - that is the asymmetric opportunity and all the “smart” money is getting devalued by missing it.

good point

They'll be back... The world is heading towards a Bitcoin standard

Haha are you hiring?! 🙃

The enslavement tools make more money

This is it

The white pill is possibly that Bitcoin might make enough freedom-lovers wealthy enough that, once the hyper deflationary period settles down, there will be a lot of money earmarked for freedom tools

But is the 5 years? 10 years? 50 years? Hard to say

ThInk you are under-estimating the effect of debasement for the fiat rich who support that system and also the massive effect of all the DEI administrators and CNN-types losing their salaries, purchasing power and influence over the next 1-2 years.

There is a shift in the zeitgeist right now that is seismic

I’m off-setting that bullish possibility by the risk that the market price of bitcoin has been to-date carefully managed by large holders (cough cough Tether) rather than organic

If it has been truly organic for the past decade, then the bullish developments should drive the price parabolic, yes

But if it has been managed (ie artificially-inflated) with the goal of attracting widespread adoption, which is now occurring, then dramatic upward manipulation might be no longer necessary and thus the past would serve as no real predictor for future price action

I mean, the widely publicized S2FX of the last cycle was just dead fucking wrong

If we ignore price and look just at halving timing vs the last cycle, we may already be near peak

Greed and fear at 75 also suggests this possibility

On the positive side this would probably mean an 80% drawdown isn’t likely

Usually it's about 12-18 months post-halving when it peaks so yeah we’d have a long way to run IF it’s organic and IF this cycle unfolds like the last few.

But my main point is that’s just one half of the equation — the other is the total repudiation of the worst offenders against free speech and enterprise, and I don’t think that’s priced in, in terms of what could get built.

I do want to believe

I also just want the ability to plan for the future again

I hear you, it's been a very strong black pill the last 5 years.

Locked in my home, set at odds with my family members, watching loved ones die of Remdesivir poisoning and opioid addiction, watching a Deep State coup, all while hoping my magic internet money would go up fast enough that I could relax… yeah it’s been a weird 5 years for sure 😅

I tried to start months ago, but for me, there is a lack of documentation and unfinished libraries.

We’ve discussed this. It’s coming.

Great 👌

Bills, mostly

I would like to but hard to get into

Because almost every entrepreneur or developer who has tried to build in the space has been rejected or ignored by the Nostr elite. This creates a closed-off environment that discourages innovation and new ideas. A truly open and decentralized platform should welcome diverse contributions rather than gatekeeping. cc nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx etc 💩

Who is asking for permission? That's not how open protocols work.

I think this has to do with religion and dedication. You see a different path to the Greater Good than other people.

I mean, if everyone was a monk in the scriptorium, mankind would be extinct soon.

Mankind is already on that path, and we're the dumbest we've ever been (relatively speaking).

They think it is more meaningful to work on a new terminal emulator.

don't forget javascript frameworks

Guilty, but it was before nostr and there was only a handful of js frameworks back then.

$$$. would love to see some case studies on that

Many are. Where did Nostr itself come from, crypto that actually works, privacy coins, free and open source, internet buildouts of various kinds, cryptography? We have a lot left to do to support full circular economy and get out from under the thumb of the State and banksters.

OK, say you built the next great private online market. How do you get it known by enough of the people and used by enough to get good network effects? How do you do that and retain enough anonymity/pseudonymity for all involved to be reasonably safe since actual free markets without seeking government permission or giving government a hefty cut are illegal? It is not at all an easy set of problems to solve. How would you say make a remote work software consulting house that paid only in say XMR and completely under the table/ off all government books work? How would you guarantee payments and find businesses, especially those not in gray/black market that would take a chance getting some of their software done through you? How will you handle disputes? Where are the underground DROs, attorneys, detectives to make these things work at any real world business scale?

I think a lot of it is lack of imagination/awareness. Some of which comes from the narrow-mindedness that comes with worrying about one's immediate concerns, like finances.

The next JavaScript framework, the 1371th text editor, the 457th half-baked Linux distro, they all scream lack of imagination to me

I wish if I coukd code as good ;(

bc we need to support more ppl that are working in this space, it’ll come with more adoption and interest, little by little 🧱

Hardly any money in the space, and the money in it is spread very thin and narrow.

If you can build here, you can also build someplace more lucrative, so you have to be a real fanatic to hold out for long.

And to grow the projects, you need to get an entire team of fanatics together. Which I've managed to do, but I don't need to tell you why my hair suddenly turned gray and I'm riding the bus. 😂

1. Work for a high salary Mon-Fri.

2. Stack sats.

3. Save the world on the weekends.

4. If 2. works out well, maybe ditch 1. and go full time on 3.

Yeah, but I think people on here underestimate the drain of #3 for months or years. You have to really be a bit crazy.

Even most of the people on Nostr, suggesting people do this, would never do it.

crazy person present and accounted for 🖐️

🫂

God: why weren’t you more like Laeserin and mleku?

Me: forgive me, Lord. I wasn’t crazy enough.

how long can you work on ZERO income before you can't pay the bills?
