Is it less filtered than Google? Does it give a more true picture of whatās going on, on the net?
Not sure on that, but Iāve asked it specifically for ānon approvedā information and it does a decent job of finding much of it for me. Much better than Google at a glance. But I typically donāt use standard search engines for that anyway. Iāve built up a lot of resources and use social networks to find many of my resources there.
For basic search and trying to get quick answers, itās much better than Google because you donāt actually have to go to any links if you arenāt interested in diving into a topic or anything. It just summarizes the answer for you and links to the sources it used.

Def use a VPN and fingerprint spoofer for your browser. Some people have used the app, I donāt think Iāll be doing that.

Nah, I might at some point. But I think this is largely a window into how ai will change search. I expect/hope for competitors with a more specialized or privacy focus pop up as the market shifts over to this sort of model.
Going to check this out. I have been using ChatGPT and it has internet search enabled now, so I wonder how they will compare...
Well, didn't take long for 'perplexity' to become DAMNED tiresome too...
Installed the 'chrome default search engine' plugin last night, which seemed to work fairly well... Started up my browser this morning, and not only did it make itself the default search and 'new tab page', (which I wanted), but DISABLED without notice the 'continue where I left off' option, so this morning rather than the 90 tabs I was working on yesterday I got the perplexity page and nothing else.
So yea, making me waste forty minutes of my morning tracking down what I was working on and rebuilding my 'tab groups' has got me a bit pissed at 'perplexity'...
Totally, this is the first place I go to look things up now. The app is good too but it will nag you to log in until you finally do. Can use a random burner email so not terrible.
