That's how we should be positioning it IMO. It's a crazy distribution method for your content.

pitching it as "censorship-resistant" is dumb; almost no one cares

Yep. When I told people I’m done with Twitter, half asked why I’m going to a broken Twitter alternative and others why I care about decentralization. That entire angle has been infected with web 3 and nobody wants to touch it now.

It preceded web3.js boys imo

Almost no one is getting shadowbanned or banned.

People know what fb is doing to their data and attention.

They still flock to it.

Nostr is just BETTER than these platforms.

The censorship resistance is a nice-to-have for most people (and for many a problem to disregard)

“Censorship-resistant” to some sounds like “Uncensored”, which has a totally different meaning…

Agree, but no one knows what network effects are either.

People are going to come for the features, and that they are unique features they can’t find elsewhere.

Zaps is one such reason. A single key to a whole ecosystem of useful micro apps is another. Instant global translation might be yet another.

As for developers, the fact it’s entirely open, permissionless, and fast-to-start wins all.

I’m actually here for the tech

Early adopters usually are

To me, it’s about decoupling UX from ID and content. It’s easy for anyone to take their ID to another client and see all their content preserved. That content is hosted on relays that are themselves interchangeable.

Centralized systems, which rely on corralling users into their walled gardens, simply can’t compete.

I think most people have a hard time believing that ethics and morality can align with profitability, but they certainly do because what’s ethical and moral can be defined as that which works best for a collective of individuals.

I think?

That’s the way, mainstream people don’t care censorship or network effect! 💪🏼

One truly killer feature will be to provide an alternative for video (YT) creators that escapes the demonetization traps they live with now.

I was listening to Mr beast and he said YouTube creators get paid pretty well. Not sure how true if he’s biased. It would make sense for YouTube to pay them well to keep everyone happy. Not sure if that’s as big of a problem as some may think 🤷‍♂️

1-click login with #nostr

1-click payments with #lightning

The decentralised natur of Nostr makes is difficult to add cross-group network effects (Advertisers;Thank god they stay away). Nostr is a pure within-group social network currently, hence the attraction for like minded bitcoiners

Come for the novelty, stay for the utility

Disagree. People who have been censored care, which is half the political spectrum on Twitter.

Nostr:

-posts that you own

-social media you own

-social media you control

-social media without evil corps.

-freedom to publish to the world

That’s the thing, I don’t think this is the right pitch.

🤝

seems to be working for me when i describe nostr to friends.

i just say this. "try to move your friends and posts from facebook to telegram or twitter ". and they all get it right away.

You have enlightened friends 😂; most people ask “I can use telegram and Facebook, what’s the big deal?”

ha! you give them too much credit.

i didn't say they use nostr just that they get it.

getting them to use nostr will require them to have some "celebrity" that they want to follow or some incredible useability improvement over their other apps.

they will only move over when the need is great

I set them up with a wallet and show show them zaps and then they get it. 💡

yes i told them about zaps and they said. "you spend bitcoin on people for posts! that is crazy! think of how much bitcoin you will have wasted" and i responded

"think of how much you can earn"

this is just going to take time.

the longer we can exist over here the better

"time is the greatest salesman"

most people have been trained since youth to be consumers, not producers. it's no wonder that they had that thought first.

I’ve found the most challenging concept to help average folks get through is simply self custody of keys. This is the big departure from password-based centralization. I think browser extensions help with this.

It is also the easiest benefit to shill as well. There isn’t a giant database with passwords for companies protect. The attack surface for large account breaches completely changes with key-based identity.

Bitcoin adoption also helps. If I am used to keeping keys for my wallet, my nostr keys is pretty similar.

no i don't think so:

i tell them this key is your password

this npub is your profile link

Oh, that makes sense 💖. Important to distinguish that (unlike a password) secret keys can’t be reset tho.

Great framing! ✍🏻 brb, going to tell my FB friends

I’m here for obscure reasons. ₿ut it’s all about tose zaps ⚡️

Using ₿itcoin via lightning is addictive.

Those* not toes! Grrr

The way I see it, if it scales proper … it might be the only one …
