lol this will happen to nostr soon:
There is no "federation" on nostr. Nice try though.
Not yet. Right?
Its a fundamentally different architecture.
Still can happen! Architecture means nothing when you can add the feature
Doesn't matter if no one uses it.
They will, just wait for the trannies to come here
Not sure what they will do though? They can't do anything. π€£
I literally told you what they did and can do
There's very little cost to move client, run your own relay with backups, switch up relays, run behind payed relays, and your identity is cryptographically signed so you bring your identity with you with your private key, and users can identify you on different relays. Not at all like mastodon where your identity controlled by the server host.
They can still share blocklists of known-bad keys and mass relay block . The entire fediverse is divied by this
yes they can censor only for themselves, but they cant stop us, even if the internet shutdown nostr can continue
How does Nostr continue if the internet shuts down? Nobody will be able to connect
Now I'm sure this is a troll account.
Same shit as, what if internet goes down, then bitcoin is doomed. π€£
This is not a troll account.
Please explain how people will connect to my NOSTR relay if the net goes down
Nah. Gfy
local net, p2p etc, certainly the utility goes down
And How praticle would that be?
hence utility is reduced, given more open use of wireless spectrum then meshnets become quite useful, say we go nukes and some of starlink survives? and it can do some sort of network? moving notes via usb could become a thing in a distopian future, nostr seems like it will replace email
Sure Sure sure
lol nostr doesnt have to have relays as the protocol is designed to be distributed
What do people connect to then when shit hits the fan
what ever network equipment they have, hopefully by then nostr has p2p and can automatically find things
wouldn't it just be scuttlebut then?
Who will provide netwok connectivity in the hood?
Ok. Now youβre trolling
A little bit with that one. But it is also a good question. really. That would be a huge effort to reconnect the planet
starlink would make reconnecting the planet easy, except a world war would likely make space unusable, especially given starlink would be targeted
So the entire planet will get star link?
Nostr is already basically scuttlebut, they were cited as the best decentralized protocol in the initial sales pitch.
Most bitcoin traffic goes through 3 ispβs, theyβd just need a court order.

architecture is everything, nostr is designed to maximize censorship resistance, just watch the ccp struggle to shut it down, nostr can go over any transport, use tor, use p2p like holepunch, make new relays, transfer notes via bluetooth via usb, gl fucking stopping us now fuckers
There actually is. Relays can broadcast to one another.
Don't be retarded. Relays can block your pubkeys and other relays or will have that ability
So what's the deal? I won't use shitty relays then. or running my own.
Eventually, people and instances will be blaocked from one another simply by association
A relay can only prevent me from posting to their server but they can't stop people from viewing content I host on my own relay server or stop users from finding the content on other servers.
"Clients can connect to whatever relays they want. Clients aren't married to any individual relay, they can grab events from dozens of relays at a time. Events stored at one relay can even point to events stored at totally different relays."
I'm currently connected to 20 relays, 6 or so paid and others free. As running your own relays become easier and easier, nostr will become increasingly decentralised and censorship-resistant. It's already possible to run your own private relay on rumble.

I get supporting relays by paying. Is there otherwise an advantage to paid ones and how much do they cost? New here.
the advantage to paid is the cost creates a barrier for spammers or abuse that might get you banned, long term paid is not a good solution, iris for example already handles spam well on public relays, your sats would be better towards devs like #[7] and others that are really pushing nostr forward

people will block on nostr, relays will block but they cant stop us, we own our ids and the content and can use any relay ie spin up new ones, we can even move to p2p
You only truly own your ID and data if you host your own
Nah you on your ID regardless of where it's created. It's not tied to a specific client or relay. Content+follows can be lost if it disappears on all relays (good luck), but they can also be backed up locally by downloading an archive, and be resent by your own private relay.
You can still run your personal relay and all your followers can still follow you (specially if they're using clients that make that easy and automatic like https://coracle.social or https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip) even if 1000 other relays block you. Nostr's entire point was to address the "cancel" stuff.
If I am wrong please let me know how can someone be actually censored in practice.
How is that different from running your own Mastodon server?
The difference is that other people can follow you directly.
Nakadai, friendly advice. You can regularly backup and broadcast all your notes and event, if you feel that you were censored by some relay.
https://github.com/bordalix/nostr-broadcast
You can edit the relay list of the code and add wss://nostr.mutinyawallet.com . This relay will send event to a lot of relays. And don't forget to have your own local relay.
I hope you are the true proof of freedom in Nostr protocol :)
