so around two months ago i had this sudden urge to get a tattoo made, and have it done in Tokyo during #nostrasia

i reached out to one of my favourite artists on nostr, nostr:npub1e4qg56wvd3ehegd8dm7rlgj8cm998myq0ah8e9t5zeqkg7t7s93q750p76 , and we went back and forth with ideas for the last two months. finally, she ended up with these absolutely incredible designs, which she can definitely add more backstory on

Color is nice but for a tattoo, assuming it’s no more than a few inches long, just lines is my vote. And i like it bursting out rather than contained.

hey, its really nice! Could you design an emoji with it?

I like 4 the best. Especially the japanese art style clouds. I would add japanese art style waves too. But even without it, looks cool.

But i personally like color.

it’s the one i’m liking the most so far 👀

i was considering maybe a mix of the first two, with the black leaves bursting out of the zap logo

2 seems best for a smaller tattoo. 4 could be cool depending on the size, but the color needs work imo.

what kind of work does the colour need in your opinion? 🤔

It looks like some of the detail was taken out compared to #2 and then a lot of flat color added in.

Ah ok fair enough. I’m sure the tattoo artist will run with it too.

I’m not great at describing so here’s an example of a custom bookmark I had made. Change in color hue and shading can add a lot of depth.

We chose the motif of "Hanafuda" and chrysanthemum flower.

Hanafuda is a Japanese card game, also well known as the origin of Nintendo.

The picture cards express the scenery of Japan's four seasons.

Nostrasia is held from November 1 to 3, which falls on the 9th month of the lunar calendar. And the cards for 9th month have chrysanthemum flowers.

In addition, chrysanthemum traditional patterns have auspicious meanings such as "nobility", "longevity", "repelling evil spirits", and "mental and physical stability".

So I want you to bring back memories of the season you came to Japan and great luck.

Do you have colour or b&w or no tattoos or both already? I prefer colour myself but more detail is possible with b&w usually.

have none, this is going to be my first one 👀

How exciting! Have you thought about placement on your body? Size? These decisions’ magnitude did not strike me until laying down in the chair and I encourage you to think about these things beforehand more than I did 😆 That being said, you seem like a colourful guy to me, who doesn’t necessarily stay inside the lines… my choice is obvious 😉

The growth out of zap 4 tells a story and offers good contrast, but also appreciate the simplicity of 1. I guess which one will have more meaning for you matters most 💜

I don’t have one, but from what I’ve seen among my friends, micro bleeding will be there. They’ll instruct you on how to handle it, but accidental spots here and there are unavoidable. My evidence is only anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt 🐶🐾🫡

1 and 4. Though definitely spend the time to find a really good tattoo artist that can do fine lines. Otherwise they’ll fade/bleed over time.
