What do you guys think about less lethal "firearms" like byrna? Would this actually stop anyone or just mildly annoy them?

Depends on if they’re on meth, pcp or sober

An oy then. Better off with a bat or better brass knuckles if you want to carry everywhere.

Seems risky to bring a not-a-gun to a gun fight. And if it wasn't before, it is now.

If you can get your hands on a taser I have a cop buddy who says that will get the job done

The CS/OC mixture projectiles they fire would. As someome who has experienced both forms of pepper spray i would fight tooth and nail to avoid gettinf hit with OC again.

From a viewpoint of distract and escape i can see a use for them.

It looks like it would be just OK. I think pepper spray is better option than this. Easier to aim and more effective at disabling eyes.

For home defense or a parking lot? 😝

Home defense

So you are saying in lieu of actual deadly force?

Those pack a punch. It would suck. They can break ribs, knock the wind out, and etc… But if you brought a knife to a gunfight that would be regrettable. Especially in defending your family residence.

They are definitely as advertised. My father in law has one and target practices.

But I lean to the primal side when it comes to my family.

I’ve ran this in my head before. That was my final judgement.

ty for info. More often it's drug addicts breaking into homes around my neighborhood so would prefer not to use lethal in such cases. But always have old faithful if needed

Really good idea to have a non-lethal option, not just for people, but dogs too. If you can’t carry pepper spray, a tactical whip is also good, but more awkward to carry.

A high output flashlight is at the top of my list for non-lethal deterrents…inside buildings or at night it will temporarily blind the target, while it gives you more information about everything.

It probably depends mostly on what non-lethal option you go with.

Oh for home defense…AR-15 carbine, SBR, or at least a full size 9mm, with mounted lights. If it’s home, deadly force only. Armor and NODs recommended, but not required.

The best answer is probably. It would probably stop an attacker.

The question is are you ok with “probably” stopping an attacker in your home or would you want his brains on the wall.

Personally, I’d go with the latter option.

From the Byrna websitev

Byrna Launcher are powered by compressed air (CO2), the Byrna handheld pistols and rifles shoot .68 caliber round kinetic and/or chemical irritant projectiles that can disable a threat from up to 60-feet away. It is an incredibly powerful and non-lethal self-defense weapon.

Seems like a good option over not having access to a real firearm, e.g., ownership is illegal. Bear mace or pepper spray could be a nightmare indoors.

From US gov't statistics, the average number of actual firearm rounds (that hit) to incapacitate an assailant is 2.5. It's 12 when you take into accouny the average number of misses.

It would be hard to believe that any non-lethal, kinetic round could be equivalent, as you are just causing pain and disorientation. The chemical rounds (pepper spray?) would be a multiplier, but the issue is you don't have anywhere else to go if it isn't enough. You can't escalate, if needed.

A non-lethal option is also the deterrant of simply displaying that you have a firearm and firing a warning shot, if needed.

That being said, just about anything is better than nothing, if it is reliable.

depends; kids, crazies, or crews?

For me, in my home... I guess I would say I'm less interested in protecting possessions. I have insurance... However if they come up the stairs where the bedrooms are, they will either be dead, or wish they were. This is about my family's safety. Never show up to war with the smallest force possible. You always overwhelm, and you make sure whatever way their body leaves... they are too maimed or too dead to ever do it again. Preferably the latter to reduce the possibility of a lawsuit. I would hate to ever have to do it...however the lives of my girls are more important than theirs. The line is "they kept coming, I told them to stop 3 times, and they kept coming, so I shot, and they kept coming, so I kept shooting".

Regardless, if someone is willing to do you or your family harm, the most humane thing to do is make sure they can't ever do it to anyone else again. Nonlethal measures can't do that, nor can they stop someone with certainty. The police can't prevent them from doing it again either.
