i'm going to ask a question, and it might seem a little (very) silly, but some places haven't cleared this bar and i want to be sure...

...are blocks on nostr publicly accessible/viewable?

also i really need to learn how to use tags again, and i hope this is the right one? #plebchain

#asknostr is a good one for this q

most client's use a publicly broadcasted mute list.

some might call it block, but it's more just a mute. Block is kinda a false promise that just gets people to go create a new account and increases the tension or view while logged out... because block can't really fully exist, we just avoid suggesting it can.

you can check https://listr.lol

I like how https://snort.social/ makes this clear through showing it on profiles

be sure to use a signing extension on the web like nos2x or nostr:npub1tnpfz60snm7ler8k8c69335n37we6690qttl88t556yzkjxhahjq3kkkpe

I think https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip might offer local mutes

Oh, this is super useful! Thank you!

And I do use nos2x, I like to keep as much control over my private keys as I reasonably can

Hi, I use Amethyst. If I don't want to see someone's content simply because I don't like it, do I have to block that person? Or is there a less blatant function? Because the person has done nothing wrong, but I just do not like the content. What do I do then? And does blocking have any negative consequences for the person I'm blocking?

#Amethyst

I’m not on android, nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z could answer what block does technically.

Can always test and see what shows up on https://listr.lol

I’ve only use mute for spam, and I might be more inclined to use it more liberally if it there was a local option… this would mean, going to another client that mute wouldn’t be carried over.

Block just hides the person from your view. It doesn't affect the person at all. Reporting does. Block is just for you. Reporting is when you are warning everyone else

do blocks get saved to the mute lists?

Yep, but on the private side of those lists. Only the author can see it

Ah, now I understand. I thought it was one and the same on Amethyst. I have now looked at the function on Amethyst again and now I get it. Thanks for your feedback!

looks like “block” in amethyst is exactly what you looking for

Can you please answer one more question for me? What does "Spa" actually mean for the relays at the top right?

nostr:nevent1qqsdm88ka35q9zng6zegfs85rt8sdnp2k0ujx2hms5ht6aesdrnqxvspp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqzyrr4zcrn967s6mucyw8lcnu85f5cgxc97lh4kqy0pfht0k9nyddn2qcyqqqqg2gv9k9s6

it says spam but I’m not sure exactly what that quantifies

Thanks for your answer! So spam means that. On my smartphone it just says "spa" so I didn't get it. OK spam then. But what does it mean now? Like my posts have been reported as spam by someone? Or does that mean spam from others?

Yeah, that screen is up for a massive restructuring :)

that number is… posts pulled down marked as spam that I would of seen otherwise? I see a ✅ spam from strangers… does non strangers show up in that number?

Those are all from strangers. The spam filter can be disabled in the Security Filters option from the side menu.

Spam :)

The red block & hide button is mute.
