I use it in daily basis and it’s amazing

When Nostr messaging ???

Very good

i use it, it works fine for me and looks very private/secure so far

👍🏽⚡️

worth a test drive. Have you ever tried wire?

Seems nice 👍

Gonna try it now.

just not the best for lack of desktop GUI client

True, but you can run it if you have an M1/M2 Mac.

Can’t figure out how to do it on both phone and Mac at same time tho

I don’t think they’re is a capability to sync across devices at the moment. Although you can export/import your chat database in the settings.

I would really love to see this functionality.

Desktop GUI is on it's way in 2023 according to lead dev. Profile syncing like Signal (leader and follower device) is on the roadmap and mentioned here:

https://github.com/simplex-chat/simplex-chat/issues/425#issuecomment-1349617910

https://github.com/orgs/simplex-chat/projects/3/views/1

if anyone can do it simultaneously - you can.

...I was just dreaming this morning of something exactly like this for persecuted groups under hostile governments.

Installed. 🤙🏻

Enjoy ⚡️👍🏽

I think it’s amazing.

It sounds sort of like Snap Chat for DMs.

Good Morning.☀️💋🫂💜

Seems promising (in twitter followed by privacytools.io ,which is a badge). Needs a test drive.

使ってみるよ🤙

Is going to be the signal killah 🔫

So many options and choices my head hurts, lol.

Looks great. Does it do what it says of the tin? I don't know.

If I understand correctly Keet.io uses ID's but no server and SimpleX runs on servers but has no ID's. Which is best???

This one looks good. Being serverless is a basic feature in a chat app. Metadata is more than enough to cheat your data. Federated server always end up lying. Keet is open source ?

don't run over tor

Why?

Pretty nice. Base concept is quite simillar to Nostr. Maybe it would be a good idea to merge some ideas.

potentially promising

Currently the most superior option privacy wise

Also, unlike signal and session, no shitcoins.

Unlike keet, no IP leaks.

Do you know anyone who actually uses mobilecoin on Signal? Seems kinda redundant with so many better options out there.

No

Figured. The app didn’t make it entirely easy to acquire it either.

Excellent summary

Has there been any clarity yet as to how the feds got access to CZ's Signal messages (per the Binance filings)?

Good Morning!

It’s all about correlate information and inference, if you just want privacy..go to a secluded place meet face to face no phone no tech whatsoever. #puravida #nostr

Just like session and briar?

nostr:npub1lnms53w04qt742qnhxag5d6awy7nz6055flnmjkr6jg39hm86dlq7arrnt made me aware of this a few months ago. Sent me down another rabbit hole with privacy that I'm incredibly thankful for!

No user ID 🤪

Piqued my interest until I clicked the 'Hoe it works' link,

To deliver mesages, instead of user IDs used by all other platforms, SimpleX uses temporary anonymous pairwise identifiers of message queues, separate for each of your connections — there are no long term identifiers.

Now I got the mesage.

Still prefer Confide - no screenshots.

I think it's a super intriguing design for maintaining privacy! Though the name keeps reminding me of "Herpes Simplex" 😂

promising

Is there a desktop version? Or would that compromise privacy?

A wonderful idea with little reception by the masses of users. 💆🏻‍♂️

We tried a nostr group on it, but the network was here, so that group chat was shutdown.

Could be a replacement for Signal, but then you’re onboarding family all over again.

Interesting File sharing use case.

Are all conversations bi-directional? Or are there multi-participant chats (3 or more participants)?

There are group chats, but the dev said it’s not good for a 1,000+ participants like a Telegram Channel, but could support a few hundred

I’m skeptical of the claim that there are no IDs, “not even random numbers”. Without an identifier of some kind, how can you distinguish who’s talking? Or is it all anons?

Why do we need a replacement for signal?

For complete privacy and absolute anonymity. For more security. nostr:npub1exv22uulqnmlluszc4yk92jhs2e5ajcs6mu3t00a6avzjcalj9csm7d828 does not need a phone number or email address or anything as an user identifier. It has most wonderful features.

Signal is centralized and requires phone numbers. Whatever it is, it is NOT anonymous.

I was just thinking a chat platform based on nostr would be amazing, SMP seems to be similar, or am I not understanding the protocol correctly?

Interesting 🤔 will need to test it, sha256, sha512, Ed448 and Ed25519 support...

Hey @umbrel - any chance we could get this added to the umbrel app store? Would love to support and run my own server...

It looks very nice

Let me see

This over Session?

No shitcoin

I fail to see the benefit over Briar

Voice

Not bad 👌

Going to have to check it out.

Do not really understand his this is supposed to worki

tried to install the CLI but script didn't work for my ububtu OS on raspberrypi, not sure why - tried over ssh and also locally. too bad, was geeked to try it out before descending into the fiat mines today

The Sovereign Bitcoiner group is probably the biggest SimpleX group chat right now ~150), pushing the limits to what the tool can do.

One of the lead devs is in the group and they’ve been receptive to our feedback so far.

do you have the server deets?

Ya I had the same issue 🫤

Thanks 🤙

Couldn’t connect 🫤

The concept of "Sovereign Groups" always tickles me. They usually lead to everyone confirming their sovereignty by leaving.

Beeeeeen using! Highly recommend!

理念很好,但服务器似乎不是很稳定。

我在使用 Mullvad VPN 的时候软件经常提醒我无法连接至服务器。

i downloaded it. i mean - okay. but how does it bypass the IP address? especially if you use your actual identity for itunes when you download the damn thing - it's not as if the exact same issues with packet delivery don't exist? and in the end - why can't people just send texts. eyeroll. privacy is subjective based on what you imagine it means.

I’ve been using it for months… it works well and they are adding features… nice to see you noted it, Jack! 🤙🤙🤙

I’m not going to be a rider here… there are so many different “DM” messaging options. How many people are truly that paranoid about privacy to switch to this… I don’t think enough. If you bought it and adopted into cash app or something perhaps 🤔

Instead of folks sharing contacts, since you can literally call them, you can create and share secret groups.

I wish Nostr architecture was described as message queues too.

Message queues are great for ephemeral messaging, but once you need to host a web page, or backup important data for long term, you will need more. You will need personal data servers and you will need stable long-lived identifiers and you will need direct relationship with a trusted hosting provider(s), not a loose set of random relays, you will also need versioning like Git and access control like Dropbox or Google drive.

If we don't build that it will be left to AtProtocol and then the did:plc will become the defacto identity for that use case, and that did is even worse than ION, at least ION aims for the right things.

What does nostr:npub1sn0wdenkukak0d9dfczzeacvhkrgz92ak56egt7vdgzn8pv2wfqqhrjdv9 think 🤔

Running my ownSimplexX server since some month and totally happy about it.

nostr:npub1exv22uulqnmlluszc4yk92jhs2e5ajcs6mu3t00a6avzjcalj9csm7d828 is on Nostr as well since a while. I have opened a Nostr group on SimpleX some time ago to find Nostr contacts:

Thank you for this group.

🎚️

Interesting concept. I downloaded it to try. Looking forward to seeing how it performs. I like the privacy aspects. We’ll see……

Much potential! Glad you’re bringing it more attention

i will try it out again

Woo it is a new way

👍....🤙

what about https://getsession.org ?

Session app is rubbish. I have been testing it since it was Loki messenger. Can't even do the basic operations like cutting and pasting. Moreover it uses a user identifier— doesn't come to any comparison with nostr:npub1exv22uulqnmlluszc4yk92jhs2e5ajcs6mu3t00a6avzjcalj9csm7d828.

It's multiple profiles, profile hiding, and Self-destructive Passcode features are awesome.

The concept is good, but not entirely new.

Session have done this nearly 3 years ago.

And (despite most consider a shitcoin) it runs on the Oxen Network (old Loki) and it's incentivized, as we earn Oxen when running our own Oxen server (local or on service provider)

This server has 3 main services - runs the Oxen Blockchain, runs the Lokinet (onion routing) and Session transmission protocol (no data collected).

Regarding SimpleX, there's "simply" no incentive for proper decentralisation, unlike Session.

So, I'll keep with Session! 😎

Just starting to learn about i2p and lokinet! I did use session for a bit, but didn't read into the technical parts. Also, no one else used it, so I stopped!

Reminds me of herpes...not that I've ever had herpes. Just sayin' y'know-the name.

I changed my mind on Simplex, it has huge benefits over Briar and several others. Testing it further!
