Not at all on the same page.

Actually I do. Technically speaking. I hold my own keys. On metal. Have hand drawn QR codes that can be used with my Seedsigner and/or Jade. And run a BTC/LN node which I zap from.

I do use a coinos address here for reviving zaps but move them off to my node immediately upon receipt. And I don't get many at all...

So I suppose you could call the 21 odd sats in that wallet at any time custodial... but I'm not going to sweat that.

But I also think the technical friction for doing all this is not something all users can overcome. And sometimes counterparty risk is the better trade off with a portion of one's stack can be better than self risk.

Sends a bit like a tribal label to me. Things aren't black and white in my view. A lot of us still need to clock in at the fiat mines. Watch how quickly we are about to see long time "maxis" warming up to tether in the coming months. (I expect this will be a heated topic)

I consider myself a maxi though mostly. And sounds like you are too.

Cheesus?

I ma sure I am not in there because I do not matter in this paradigm. Bitcoin 2011.

Web of Trust feels a lot like Proof of Stake 🧐

Trust is like social capital: the more trusted you are, the more influence you have, which can leave new users stuck in the shadows. Their less trusted (but often valuable!) opinions barely get noticed.

Trust works as a resource—it’s built and extended through explicit endorsements (like Alice following Bob). But here’s the catch: the early adopters hold all the cards. If you weren’t here first, your influence depends on whether the big players decide to trust you. And trust? It’s scarce, especially the kind that matters most—follows from users with high social capital. These endorsements aren’t handed out easily.

The system has a built-in centralization problem 😬. Popular users with a ton of followers tend to grow their influence exponentially, while newcomers struggle to get noticed. People are incentivized to follow others they trust to protect their reputation, which just makes the rich get richer in terms of trust.

And let’s talk about power imbalance šŸ”„. A follow from Alice, who’s been on Nostr for two years and climbed her way to the top, is a big deal. Compare that to a follow from Charlie, who just signed up and posted a humble #introduction . Alice’s social capital makes her endorsement hit way harder 🄊.

To top it off, there’s some ā€œpre-miningā€ going on. New users often automatically follow certain developers, making them super-trusted by default. It’s like trust farming for the OGs, giving them a massive head start over everyone else.

You used the word 'humble' in a way that actually fits the definition! Weird around these parts... but thanks. Now i trust you more. 😃

Impressive. I speak English and American sign language.

Make of the weapons hypodermic needles and it's prefect . 😃

Seems to me an RSS note type with all of the RSS syntax and features is just obvious.

Layers. Decentralized development. Not a monolithic protocol. Stay compatible with an already established protocol. And gain all the advantages of of already being developed .

Oh the first music... gotcha. . Well in not telling. šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜†

Such a simple equation for me.

Rogers opinion on bitcoin = dangerously wrong.

US action against Roger = evil.

Done.

Obvious girl bat honestly.

Heh. There is a flavor for sure.

Sadly.

I do think there are other options.. But Occam's razor and all...

The second place theory for me is the US government is collecting data for security purposes. For example they have credible Intel around a massive threat and are searching.

But the other is way more likely IMHO.

I think it's likely an op to keep drones in the hands of the government only. Drones are powerful weapons.

I suspect they will keep the narrative going and then they will push legislation to "protect" us.

I think many of the people here are high all the time.
