Bitcoin and Liberty

Too often in conversation I find myself having to say, "I'm not telling you what to do, I'm telling you what I'm doing."

I've been interested in Bitcoin since about 2010.

I've owned some since a about 2015.

I've known about the existence of the Lightening Network for about a year and a half.

I'm now watching a video about setting up a node.

I'm always behind where I feel like I should be. But, it seems like I'm still ahead of the curve.

Thanks nostriches for showing me the light(ening).

Making poor choices often leads to unpleasant consequences. This is something that people should learn as they mature.

Those CEO's simply need to embrace maturity and make better choices. It will make their lives easier.

Agreed. However, I'm very much looking forward to the moment that they do find Nostr. It will completley eliminate my need to suffer through that cesspool.

I only use(d) Twitter to try to find news that I miss in other places. And, it's not that it's a good platform for that, but rather it was one of few options I'm aware that I can use for that without putting in a lot of work.

With Nostr, I'm trying to remember how to be social online. And, I have to admit, that's proving more difficult for me than I expected. While I was never much of a troll, I always expect anything on any social media to become somewhat confrontational. That's not the case here. I love it, but I have to adjust my expectations.

Do you live in a place where CO2 guns sew your only option or are they just your preference?

I ask because I live in a region of the US where it's generally safe to assume that many people you meet or pass on the street are concealed carrying.

If you live in a place where that's not an option for you, but you obviously enjoy shooting, I would love to get your thoughts on firearms in general.

I know it's probably weird to the majority of people in the world, but I try to avoid going places where people don't carry. I find it unsettling.

Does anyone know of any nostriches who are talking firearms yet?

I would like to follow them.

I love bitcoin and have for years, and I love the censorship resistance of nostr, but I also love shooting and firearms. It would be nice to be able to add that to my feed.

Generally speaking, other than the use of BTC, what are people's plans for a worldwide economic decline (however that may play out)?

In perspective, I was raised during the end of the Child War by older parents who were born into impoverished families during the Depression. I was kind of raised with "yep, embrace the suck and you better have skills of you want to come out on the other side of this okay" world view.

But, that doesn't mean I've thought everything through. I'm sure that I haven't. I'm sure that I'm not clever enough to see everything that should be obvious.

So, what, if anything, are you all thinking?

Obviously, I'm not asking for details. I'm just looking for a conversation and ideas.

I'm on board with that. I've never really wanted things getting more distopian.

I've heard it said that "Bitcoin is Proof of Work. Fiat is Proof of War."

Not only do I find this to be brutally true, I (like I think many of us do) think we're likely to see a lot of expansion of the true fiat backing in the coming months and years.

But, maybe after this phase of geopolitics slows we'll see a time in which Proof of Work can make the Proof of War fiat undesirable for the majority of the world.

The only faith I have in the government is faith that it'll do the wrong thing as often as it can.

I don't have nearly enough bitcoin for that.

The number one asset used in exchange for illicit activity is and has been the USD. The largest money laundering operation in known history was done by HSBC.

Those are two things the he can't really argue with if he's arguing in his faith.

But, beyond that, for him to have faith in the banking system and fiat is the same mental process as someone having faith in a particular religion. That is to say, they believe, not know, believe. Now, there's nothing inherently wrong with that. But it's very a important thing to remember when discussing the topic with someone like a banker or former banker.

Everything in their experience set supports the existing system. It worked for them. It continually did what they thought it would do. They knew the game, played it well, and it rewarded them. Because of that, when you introduce something to them that challenges that system, they are going to instantly recoil. You're introducing something that challenges something that they have a serious, but possibly subconscious, emotional investment in.

I don't have the tech knowledge to know why this is, but I'm currently eating in a restaurant with severely limited internet signal. Everything is loading incredibly slowly on my phone except Iris.

I don't know if this is a feature of how the protocol works, but if it is, it's very impressive.

Remember, my bitcoin friends, that while bitcoin will eventually buy oir freedom from the fiat monetary state, during the transition it might be prudent to own some guns, ammo, potable water and nonparishable food.

The power brokers might well be willing to try to take civilization down with them in a bid to retain that power.
