I personally think this is a “Facebook effect” - so basically on Facebook you only “friend”/follow people you know irl or celebrities who are “suggested”… on Nostr I don’t personally know anybody yet, nor do I receive suggestions, so I have to use more of a Twitter-type strategy, but there is also a “Twitter effect” where the most influential folks follow 0 people lol - people are funny 😄
Attended my uncle’s funeral this evening. He was a highly decorated army veteran and a US postal worker. I’ve been reflecting on how little I feel like I actually knew him, yet how familiar he was to me. Not sure if that makes sense.
He was a jolly guy, in kind of a sneaky way - a good listener, with a glisten of youthful mischief.
He made Christmas calendars for us with our pictures on our birthdays. We would laugh sometimes at the pictures he chose to represent each of us because they were not always the most flattering, but I think he intended to make us laugh at ourselves.
He brought a Nintendo64 with Donkey Kong to my grandparents’ house for me and my cousins to have something to do while the old folks gabbed.
He was married to my aunt for 53 of his 77 years, and I never remember seeing them apart. In the end, he passed in her arms. I felt his presence so clearly by her side tonight that it was as if he was right there.

Some relays are paid and others are altruistic. If you have some technical chops or a nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll it’s pretty easy to spin one up, but I don’t qualify for either of those so take with gain of salt 😅

Ngl I’m still wrapping my head around how all this works, but it seems to me the relays themselves need a better way to market and monetize. The way I found relays to connect to was by going to old #plebstr (pre OpenVibe) and seeing which relays other people were connected to there.

Fun story - I met her best friend, the former First Lady of Reykjavik (I suppose that’s what you call a mayors wife too?) - their family were some of the coolest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of having dinner with. Her name is Jóhanna Jóhannsdóttir. Very cool.
