I loved Winamp. Back in the days when we were ripping our entire cd collections and swapping them on completely open networks with thousands of other students on campus. Oh the joy of a blissfully open and connected network.

It’s nice to see that I can find some lovely filth over here. 😊

Paywall for exclusive or premium additional content is fine. But that requires the creator to establish themselves as a known commodity. And free-to-user content should not be abandoned because growing a new audience is always necessary.

That said, it is a challenge to create enough content that it justifies and maintains a paying audience. I never produced enough content with the podcast at a frequency that I felt justified having exclusive content. It didn’t seem honest to ask for someone to trust that I had more in store for them than I could offer on the regular podcast feed.

Still, while V4V didn’t produce riches, those times when I would get a random payment from a listener felt like someone dropping treasure in my hand. It was awesome to think that someone found my show valuable enough to take the time to toss me a few bob. Meant the world and was much more rewarding than running ads or sneaking behind a paywall.

But, any model is a good model if your audience agrees with you. On NOSTR, people understand that value of patronage and finding value in the efforts of others. I think this is a perfect place for v4v.

Agreed. It just takes a relearning process. People have grown so accustomed, over generations, to being the product themselves. For decades content has been shown for “free” in exchange for curated advertising, registered accounts with personal info, or structured timing of broadcasting. We have been the controlled content.

The patronage model is both ages old, and brand new. We are the street performers and traveling minstrels of old. Once people truly understand that they have been entertained/informed/inspired/etc without having exchanged something of themselves already, they will want to throw a few coins into the hat.

Howdy Everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Ryan and I finally made the jump into the NOSTR world recently. Thanks to all those that have already followed this noob after a just a few posts!

I started podcasting back in 2018 because at the time that was the only way to add to conversations about topics I enjoyed. Eventually the push in the podcast market to lean into video and mainstream platforms made it more stressful. Then, the covid scam blacked pilled me a bit and the show has been on hiatus for a few years now.

Since then, I finally discovered and embraced Bitcoin, and I've been involved in the development of mobile apps to meant to give the power of information back to the users rather than the algorithm or the mainstream news filters.

Thanks to Walker and The Bitcoin Podcast, I discovered NOSTR and decided to give Primal a try. I'm immediately hooked. I see the potential, the opportunity for funding, and the passion and excitement for new development and new conversations. AND a voice! Zaps give the power to users, not to the algo. It's really awesome.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome so far and I will definitely keep finding new people to follow and engage with. I like to talk about the paranormal, conspiracy (it's all fact these days), social psychology and philosophy, current events, bitcoin (at any hour of the day), and I like a good meme to make me laugh and think.
