I made damus, npubs, and zaps ⚡️ Independent bitcoin core and lightning dev.

I regret adding them but someone was gonna do it

Skyward sword theme song is my fav. zeldas lullaby in reverse hits different. Was amazing in orchestra.

ig/tok is 90% ai generated content these days and its getting worse. The pages are completely automated, they just enter a prompt and then it will create a whole story, generate images, videos, etc.

the problem is the content is just interesting enough that it tends to get lots of attention in the algo just due to the sheer volume.

The attention economy is just becoming gamed, regurgitated content from language and diffusion models.

Just share a post to reminders

You can share notes from #damus to your reminders app, and notecrumbs will give you a nice preview. Clicking this will open the note in damus. It’s a nicer way to organize your notes than damus’ built in bookmarks, which is a bit neglected.

I think ai is a great learning tool personally. I don’t think it stops critical thinking, i believe it enhances it. It knows so much stuff so it’s like a search engine of knowledge.

The problem i was eluding to was the fact that ais are almost too good at certain things to the point you don’t really have to think about how to do something. You depend on some machine to do it for you.

We depend on machines all the time: like to do mathematical calculations (calculators, computers). we don’t do it on paper anymore. It’s slow, tedious, and error prone. if the tool is good enough and accurate most of the time, people will just use it instead of doing the more difficult thing.

I think whats happening is we’re offloading neural cycles to machines to give us more time to do things we want to do, the same way we offloaded physical work to machines in the industrial age (tractors, etc)

i spend so many neural cycles thinking about program structure. It leads to efficient code that is nice to read… but is it a good use of my time? Im not so sure. Maybe i’m just training data at this point.

If ai gets good enough to get 80% of the code quality but i can do 10x more, maybe its better… the ai is not good enough yet to build whole projects like nostrdb, but I’m sure its inevitable.

ai is minting a whole new generation of programmers. They will be dependent on machines yes, but if they never would have got into programming otherwise then maybe it’s not too bad.

There is one thing they will not experience: trial and error and figuring out the right way to do things leading to deep understanding of how to structure programs.

Instead they will just get ai to structure the program, and if something goes wrong they will get the ai to fix the structure. Code structure just becomes an artifact of the generation.

There is a shallowness to this, but maybe programming was never supposed to be a thing that humans dove deep into. It’s way too abstract and difficult to do correctly anyways.

gm nostr

I’ve never been a fan and actually don’t really implement them in any of my clients to the anger of many users.

I would prefer not replacing and have a pruning step for old versions. Having information destruction as a core protocol feature feels wrong to me.

n8n is neat. It’s like a run your own zapier with ai integration. A friend showed me their workflow where they take a screenshot and send it to their telegram bot. If it recognizes the screenshot as a YouTube video and it downloads the video, transcribes it, saves it to drive. All using local llms and no code, just dragging and dropping premade nodes and connecting them with a visual editor.

We’ll have a new release soon for purple subscribers, not sure when for general release.

it already has the latest version

Awesome!

Wait a minute, are you on a hot valentines date with nostr:npub1h50pnxqw9jg7dhr906fvy4mze2yzawf895jhnc3p7qmljdugm6gsrurqev and simultaneously pushing code updates 🫡🤪

haven't left yet. still workin

Just updated damus ios to the latest version of nostrdb… search on profiles and advanced search soon 👀

Unpopular opinion: Because of this problem, because of the refusal of relays block image links which contain CSAM, several of the major Nostr apps, possibly including nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q , nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg , and nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 will be kicked off the Play Store and App Store. This might happen fairly soon, too. Web applications will be fine and won't be impacted. Relying on "user reports" or "web of trust" is a joke and won't prevent these apps from getting killed by Apple or Google. Sorry.

damus does everything it can to block this stuff, and we are continuing to do so:

https://github.com/damus-io/damus/issues/2853

https://github.com/damus-io/damus/issues/2854

every platform has to deal with this stuff, it's not just nostr clients.

It says providers have to report content hosted somewhere instead of recklessly hosting or doing nothing to remove them.

Relays should do their best to stop these links, but my point is that it doesn’t actually solve anything when you can get the links from relays that don’t do this filtering.

the problem is not the links, the people hosting the content is the problem

and of course this would be configurable in the client.

talking about it some more with the team, its probably more effective to just put a bigger warning when unblurring images for the first time.

i was about to turn mine off the other day because lots of apps are now adding protected events to things like relay group chat? I couldn't use flotilla with my relay because of this.

We have the worst memes nostr:note1ym4c8qsjjmgv4dzqcagnvcasxhfdyq2v04xhjkcgvr72th0hz8kqfww3j0

We live in an age where you can get AI to give its legal opinions on the temporary restraining order against DOGE. Much better than getting some random persons opinion.

I just copied the judge’s order pdf text directly into chatgpt and got some pretty interesting results, and was able to ask follow up questions about specific orders:

you are tagged on my reply to you, so you get that notification. notifications are sent to anything you are tagged in. this is why it says "tagged" instead of "replied"

Hmm i wonder if i should make a custom field for this now since the comment field has been ruined
