Honest question: how is everyone dealing with all of the airdrop scam replies?
Ignoring? Blocking? Reporting?

One could go even further by saying that mainstream media, books, and even schools have a similar effect.
Instead of helping us to see and think clearly, they cloud our minds and disturb our hearts.
Buddhist or not, I think most us can see this.
I've seen a lot of conversations about how #Nostr is where it's at and the solution to everything. Alas, that's not exactly the case.
As a #freedom tech that helps us escape censorship, shadow bans, and the like on mainstream platforms, Nostr is a killer. It's revolutionary. The fact that we can take everything with us across the Nostr universe (Primal, Amethyst, Damus, etc.) is amazing and will hopefully become the standard for all moving forward.
As some others have started to point out though, Nostr cannot currently serve as a #privacy or #anonymity tool. It's simply not built for it, and we need to realize that that's okay. We have #Signal, #SimpleX chat, and similar tools, each offering different degrees of privacy for different use cases. Could we someday make an integration between these? Hopefully so, but for now we need to realize that Nostr offers us freedom to communicate, to publish, to zap, and so much more. Appreciate it for what it is, but don't pretend it's something that it's not.
From a #Nostr perspective, you're entirely in the right.
From a more #privacy and #anonymity sided position, the #SimpleX model works a lot better. Yes, you may lose your message history, but at least you have better #security.
For a moment, I thought this said "Monero fight".
I guess I've been lost in the privacy and crypto worlds for too long.

actually nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct has a simple way to put things up and running, I don't exactly know how it works, since I didn't run it yet.
What is your level of knowledge of computer science?
Do you know how to use Linux?
My CS and overall tech knowledge are pretty limited. I've had to maintain some basic Wordpress sites for work, and likewise one of my previous offices had me using Linux day-to-day (as they didn't want to install Windows). Unfortunately, I never got too deep into tinkering with CLI.
Having said all that, I'm happy to learn along the way.
Thanks for the tip about Kubernetes. It sounds like I have some more research to do, but at least I have a direction to head now.
If you have any other advice on what kind of machines I should check out, that would also be a huge help!
I finally downloaded #Gossip, added a dozen or so relays, and tinkered around with the various settings.
It's been a good hour or so now, and most (but not alll) of my own posts show up in my feed. Heck, even some reposted contents has appeared. But none of my follows are there. When I check the 'Followed' category, I didn't see anyone there. I've tried to both 'overwrite' and 'merge' as instructed on the original page of instructions, but nobody has come through yet.
When I checked the CLI that loads with Gossip, it has repeatedly said, "Done picking relays: All people accounted for."
Anyone have tips on how to get my follows to load?

It looks like there's something call Mostr that's allowing a bridge between Nostr and Mastodon.
Your account is coming through via Mostr.
Only tangentially related, but I just noticed that you're cross-posting between Nostr & Mastodon. Very neat!
I've been thinking about experimenting with #Nextcloud but am completely new to #selfhosting.
If I were to start with a freebie account via one of Nextcloud's partners, how difficult would it be to transition over to my own self-hosted instance sometime in the future?
For example, once I've uploaded photos, installed apps, etc., on the free version, could these all be easily downloaded and merged with an at-home server version of Nextcloud?
Apologies in advance for any weird terminology. This isn't really my field.

I just finished nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev 's recent episode on "Orange Pilling Your Barber". Both Hector Alvero, in the original article, and Guy in the added feedback provide excellent reasons why talking to barbers and stylists about Bitcoin makes a boatload of sense.
I was particularly interested to hear the part about how jumping straight to #lightning is a better plan under certain circumstances. I'd always thought that LN was for a later time, but this episode has me convinced that some people can and should be introduced to LN from the start.
Now, I'm sitting here wondering what other professions would have access to lots of folks and would have great outreach. Taxi drivers? Teachers? Food vendors?

Years ago, I loved that I could sync my podcasts between my desktop and my iPod with iTunes but have switched to mobile-only these days, exclusively using Fountain.
But I've been wondering for a long while now, are there any FOSS options that would allow me to sync my podcast listening between my mobile and desktop?

Later this year, I will have an opportunity to offer a series of classes to young people (ages 12-18) about financial literacy, Bitcoin, and related topics. While the exact terms are still under discussion, I will have approximately 10-12 lessons, each being about 45 minutes in length.
I have started to note down some topics that I want to cover, such as definitions of money, time difference, inflation, and savings vs investments. When I get to the Bitcoin portion, I will naturally have to touch on self-custody, KYC, mining, scams, and related themes.
If you were in my shoes, what would be your must-have topics for a first-time course like this?

I was thinking the same exact thing. If some #Monero coders would like to build a client that would allow #xmr zapping, we'd be well on our way to integrating better #privacy into the #nost r universe.
Alas, I am not that good of a coder yet to do so, but hopefully some others will take up the challenge soon!
Which #nostr browser-based clients allow for reposting with comments? I have seen this in a few mobile clients but mostly see a generic repost button on most web clients.
Any suggestions from the #grownostr team? Thanks in advance!
A few years back, #Australia passed its own anti-encryption legislation. For those who forgot:

Now, #India is banning encrypted messaging services:

As more and more of us are adopting #Signal and similar #privacy services, it's really only a matter of time before more nations implement similar laws. They can't stand losing control over our communications data.
