Has anyone seen a list of up-and-coming relays that we could start publishing to?

I'm happy to add a few on!

Any fellow Nostr folks in #Singapore or nearby locales in #SoutheastAsia, a musical group will be putting on a special performance this evening, inspired by a special exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum:

If you're in town (or super close by), please consider joining!

As an educator, I think there are two different sides to this issue.

On the one hand, a lot of compulsory subjects in secondary school or even university may prove to be 'pointless' from a facts-based perspective. For example, the average student will never remember when the Battle of Hastings took place, where it took place, or who was involved.

Yet, certain subjects are useful in building up skills or developing a larger worldview. For example, maths or statistics courses can develop our numeracy skills that can later be applied to real-life problems, whether that be taxes or office reports. History, English, and similar subjects can also help us to develop our composition and speaking skills, which can help us now with our report writing, marketing, and related tasks. It's not all for naught!

I imagine this is something we could collectively produce here on Nostr.

We agree on a hashtag for the project and combine it with a hashtag for each year. Then, we simply work together to post notes with said "facts".

Should be fairly straightforward, no?

i have got some audio courses as well but for me learning languages is a visual thing, so i got a book coming

i read constantly and wonder what i'm reading so this kind of information is massively helpful for me in acquiring understanding... and once i understand i have the tongue-training for these funny euro languages from 11 years on the continent it won't take much practice once i have the grammar and phonetics

Language learning can be an absolute blast, and it's good that you're looking to connect what you're hearing in your audio courses with the written word.

If you haven't already tried it, I'd also recommend Lingq.com, which I used the free tier of years ago to help with a number of different European languages (Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, etc.). They've got a ton of free texts and audio clips, which can be immensely helpful when looking for extensive exposure to a language.

Either way, best of luck with your language learning adventures!

But it looks like it died due to twitters manual signin policy, which probably killed nitter in the same way?

I remember reading somewhere that it was an issue of 'tokens'. Nitter was previously able to generate temporary tokens, granting access to Twitter, but this was no longer possible with X.

Not being technically literate, I don't know much more than that. 😢

While I use YouTube to research a number of different topics (whether that be health, food, tech, or otherwise), I would be failing the handful of you in my Nostr audience if I didn't mention #education.

Both professionally and privately, I've been helping students apply for university for years. Students at the schools I've worked at, acquaintances online, and even friends & family have asked for my advice about universities, and I've used a number of resources to aid them in their search and applications. In the the early days, blogs and webfora were huge in helping me find unique degrees and courses of study.

Now, there are a ton of YouTubers helping to recommend 'hacks'. These can help students that need a 'quick' degree for a certain job role. For example:

That's not to say that you should always rush through degree programs (or that you even need a degree), but there's definitely a niche market that is fulfilled by some of these YouTubers (and the universities that they recommend).

With the demise of #Nitter, I'm curious to know:

1. Has anyone found or built some kind of Nitter alternative?

or

2. Is there still any kind of functioning 'bridge' between X and #Nostr, allowing me to subscribe to any of my favourite X feeds and see them here on Nostr?

Based on the handful of schools I've taught at or otherwise been involved with across multiple countries, this is definitely true of most government and even private schools.

A handful of Catholic and IB World Schools will push students to move beyond rote memorization, but they seem to be few and far between. Naturally, the odd teacher at your government or private schools will challenge students, but standards are almost universally abysmal. The norm is, typically, to teach to teach to the lowest common denominator, who is often the weakest student who doesn't study and is often multiple levels behind the rest of his peers.

As highlight in nostr:npub1lelkh3hhxw9hdwlcpk6q9t0xt9f7yze0y0nxazvzqjmre3p98x3sthkvyz's video on alternative schooling a few months back, parents should really dig deeply into a school before sending their children or should even consider making the sacrifices necessary to consider homeschooling, school co-ops, or similar alternatives.

This comedian is spot on.

But what he doesn't tell you is that it's not only the kids. Sometimes, the adults have just as many complex issues (if not more!).

A couple of podcast app questions for everyone:

1. Besides FountainFM, what other podcast apps is everyone using (on Android)? Is Podverse any good?

2. Is there a way to export my podcast subscriptions and other data from FountainFM? I'm only seeing an import feature, and it'd be a huge waste of time to manually resubscribe to several dozen podcasts if an export option is hidden somewhere.
