I'd still prefer to chop it down and use it to make charcoal than let my goats eat it. Though they probably would be just fine doing so, they are not grazers so they'd probably never OD on it.

I disagree. Do you know how many medicines never got out there since they made the FDA? The ratio of thalidomides to peniccillins nearly tripled thanks to fiat medicine. You are suffering from survivorship bias. What about all those years people couldn't smoke weed for things weed helped? Ah yeah, fiat medicine.

Technological deflation is actually the result of LESS government interference and LESS monetary tampering. Computers are a funny one because of how they can be used to build computers easier. That has been the backbone of it all for some time.

Nothing to do with inflating currency and giving the new tokens to your mates.

yeah what's the deal with blue skin anyway. Isn't that usually a thing on Trolls? Or Liches or something?

I'm not sure why mine gets mangled into all alphabet, maybe I made it that way first but it's written with a zero and one... and always gets mis-transcribed, which was the whole point of making this handle

l0k1

I first adopted the handle "elfspice" back in the days of DMT-World, stolen from the slang name of DMT. I later ended up hanging out on Spiritplants IRC, and a more senior member of the chat, who everyone fawned over, was called "Elfstone" and people started bitching at me because they had to type 5 characters to auto-type his name instead of mine, which due to P being before T was picked out first by xchat.

So I changed to loki. Then someone was bitching about it colliding with some other name, idk, I can't remember what, so I changed it to l0k1.

This ended the name collision problem and the handle stuck, and I found it endlessly amusing that people couldn't read it correctly. It's practically a demonstration of why Base58 and Bech32 have only one each from Il1 and 0Oo.

I've even got a domain now, l0k1.cc

Nobody bothers to manually type these things any more so the transcription thing isn't a problem anymore.

But I still do kinda wish that fonts without distinctive Il1 and o0O would be lost from the internet, anyhow. Come to that, I often dream about people using more sensible, less ambiguous alphabets, but that's about as likely to happen as everyone learning to speak esperanto, which I by the way I think is a lame language. So, whatever.

Mangling language is part of language.

We also need CO2 to breathe. Without it oxygen cannot be released from hemoglobin.

Conversely, plants need oxygen during darkness. Most likely for similar reasons.

Nostr does not have a delete message and even if it did, people could choose to ignore it, it's a decentralised network.

First rule of signals intelligence is don't send a message over an insecure channel if you don't want it intercepted.

If you don't like it, don't send the message in the first place.

If it is any consolation, there's a good chance it will eventually be deleted when people's disks start to get full of spam. But it's best to assume once sent, forever out there.

I am so glad to be in a place where the buildings frequently whistle.

Can't wait until I've got a place with whistling buildings and the sound of rain on corrugated steel as well.

Yeah, maybe what I really meant was electric cars but they don't provide smug like they used to, just range anxiety.

TIL the https://github.com/btcsuite/btcd imports from Decred:

https://github.com/btcsuite/btcd/blob/master/btcec/schnorr/signature_test.go#L17

I am in the process of refactoring the Decred secp256k1 to use SHA256 hashes for the signature and adding BIP340 tests for the Schnorr signatures. The SHA256 library will be one that uses AVX2 SIMD - which is substantially faster than the SHA256 code used in btcd/lnd.

This will be a clean, dependency free package for Golang bitcoin/lightning/nostr developers that will save everyone from the go modules hell of btcd.

I think it's kinda cool and interesting that Nostr is literally the Latin root for "our" - the plural possessive pronoun.

As opposed to "theirs".

Day of the Dead. Creepy but kinda cool.

Mises says the same thing about what constitutes a "good" in an economy. They are mechanisms for delivering a service. A house delivers shelter. A car delivers transport. A big fat diamond delivers smugness.

Ozone is nasty, and smells nasty too. I always thought it was that smell like from electric powered bumper cars at carnivals but that is pleasantly tainted with the smell of burning copper, steel and zinc, and really very little ozone.

I never knew what ozone smelt like until I got a proper mercury vapor lamp and frankly I see no reason to ozonate the water, it is alread gonna have a nontrivial amount of air dissolved in it. Just give it a quick UVC blast and that's enough. Much simpler too.
