bitchat now has regional chat, using geohashes and nostr (kind 20000). in TestFlight. https://github.com/permissionlesstech/bitchat/releases/tag/v1.3.0

So with these geohashes now being sent to nostr relays, can we get a heat map or are the script kiddies already teleporting like crazy?
So the geohash is not correctly considering neighboring cells. Guess that gets fixed quickly. It might also mean that you are leaking your position more than intended.
Thanks for testing ;)

Guess now I have to try it out.
I wonder how the geohash thing works. Does it reveal my location to the street level? If used with new nyms that's ok I guess. Or can I set the granularity in the app, so people can't triangulate my nym with any meaningful precision?
The app ID?!? Seriously? On Android, it's rather hard to figure out the appID of installed apps. Who cares? Can you share some official letter complaining about the appId?
Easy switching as in the video is great but allow the user to include more than one fiat in the cycle.
For zaps, sats is the standard. For retail, fiat, for trading BTC.
For me, brigading means that somebody posts on Facebook to get his followers to reply to something he didn't like on Twitter. Somebody brings his brigade to influence an opinion. If now these followers stay on Twitter to spread the word about something they genuinely like, it's not brigading anymore.
Now if people that follow nostr:npub12rv5lskctqxxs2c8rf2zlzc7xx3qpvzs3w4etgemauy9thegr43sf485vg chime in where he chimes in here on nostr, that might also feel like brigading but I don't see that happening to any degree that would feel unnatural. I follow several eToken developers and clearly they spread the word but extremely respectful and not in a way that would drown opposing opinions which brigading often does.
Brigading? Where? eCash has very specific tradeoffs and is not self-custodial and the makers who promote eTokens don't hide that.
Oh, right. They "mention" pubkeys and events. But still, zaps are more expensive.
How Fiat Ruins Mining and Why Mining Decentralization is Inevitable

I'm not convinced that bigger operations necessarily are more short term oriented. They are however more profit driven. A solo-miner will probably have much lower stakes than a big operation renting several warehouses. Also the solo-miners are much more heterogeneous as they don't have the resources to do all the last tricks to optimize their earnings. Merged mining, MEV, things like that are probably out of scope for them while big operations invent products and play politics.
Now solo miners do usually mine with pools that do all these shenanigans and I don't see how to shift the incentives away from pools but as long as the switching costs are low, pools might not be a big problem anyway. Miners that want to do the right thing will switch if some pool(s) turn out to be evil.
I prefer an emoji over a 1sat zap. The latter is so much heavier on those poor servers. Isn't anybody thinking of them servers? 🤷♂️
Russian state-run media outlets are circulating footage today that allegedly shows a GAZ-71 near the frontline in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Oblast, displaying both Russian and American flags.

Is that what they call false-flag-operations? 🤔

I so far was not getting any of this in Germany. Maybe X filed me as Chilean?
I find it problematic if all of Bitcoin Xitter abandoned X for Nostr. Nostr is just a circle jerk with all users using Bitcoin already.
We also need free phones and if certain bands may only be used by deputized big corporations, then let's at least have the rest with Android for compatibility with all the existing apps.
You're not in England? Apparently they are getting strong-armed to do this and I'm nervous what nostr will do to navigate around this blanket KYC BS.
What happened?

The nip defines them such that they don't get stored at all. Only delivered to connected clients that want them.
Bitcoin economies turn more circular one merchant at a time so it's kind of the same thing. If you live in Lugano and can pay everything with Bitcoin, that's great but the degree to which a bakery in Lugano helps with bitcoin adoption in Germany is close to zero. Lugano is a great story to convince a bakery in Springfield but Amazon accepting Bitcoin would probably help more.
They took it back. Self-custody wallets are ok.
But better be safe than sorry and have an alternative going forward.

But we really have to prepare from the metal up. Many claim PWA is the solution but it ain't so as long as Google can just push an update and break PWA or specific PWAs. Also chatcontrol will affect wallet privacy if not security depending on how it's implemented.
Apparently they mention a campaign sponsor on reactions even though the sponsor isn't part of the sponsored content. At least that can get used to filter this spam out.
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.
For those lazy to look it up:
So I don't like that the rewards are hidden from other users. nostr:npub1dsn6t2szka5uddgl6lkasrzmyxum5vkpdkgnk27gu9shldzhx6qqj92h64 could zap publicly where it makes sense, quote boosts and replies. This would also make other users of the system aware of the campaign, so they could jump in and do their part without having to leave their timeline scrolling.
Apparently I have to reply through the app to be eligible for the reward? That means it won't integrate naturally in my timeline reading. I can't just follow "generous" accounts and reply/like/share their posts.

So this is currently the only available task? But replying on noStrudel works, too, to get rewarded? Or do I then have to still claim the reward on the aqstr page?
That's quite a constant spam/scam
The plan mode is obsolete with horizon-beta. It doesn't touch files if it's not ready to even in act mode.

It looks like a fun exercise to come up with this but many basic assumptions look totally arbitrary. Did I get that right? The idea is to have an automated preparation mission to get the target planet livable before the generational ship gets there? The time scales here are so vast. So robots can prepare the target planet but still the ship's population is doing basic chores like agriculture? They allot more people to agriculture than we allot here on earth right now? I just scrolled through so maybe that's just to have people some purpose.
I would filter it by my follows and maybe their follows and would want to know who voted what. No need for sats.
Pretty wild but "isolated peoples" always makes me think of the Fermi Paradox. Are we the isolated people here on earth? What gives one the right to forbid others the contact? Maybe some isolated peoples want to remain isolated but probably not all members of those peoples want that. What about that who want to know what's out there? What's with their rights?
